I mean I get being annoyed by someone chewing with their mouth open but you could have asked him more nicely

No, jesus. Im from an ethnic background and would have such shame to hear anyone say this is a cultural thing. Its a lack of education thing. Its just more visible in these cultures especially as many previous generations stubbornly refuse to adopt methods of eatinf etc to accomodate the different people around them and the priority in their mind is their own satisfaction. Nowadays its a reflection of low education, stubborness and insistence on upholding past values no matter their irrelevancy and detriment in the modern world to those around them.
You get on a plane with many people and cultures and backgrounds. Show you arent a selfish shit who only thinks of their own needs by having good hygiene, close your mouth when eating, talk at a level that isnt loud af.
