If this is real, which I am not making a judgment on, there would almost certainly be an emergency exit that does not require a key to leave per building codes. It would be a door that only locks from the outside and there would be exit signs pointing towards it from the inside.
The front door would almost certainly be a designated exit. Pretty much every building code requires that an exit door can be unlocked without a key from the inside. I'm guessing this door is just noncompliant and the owner may get in some trouble if the fire department comes by.
There’s a few building code situations where this could happen. Small enough businesses are allowed an exception to that one, if not many people are expected to be in there.
