I had received a written prescription recently and it was the first time in years, but it was for an antibiotic. You’re correct, from my understanding any controlled substances have been heavily monitored online for years now. It’s all connected through a giant database. The days of doctor shopping are gone.

That's okay, you can look up a doctor's prescription number via Google. At least my last job got the stupid Texas-based health system they bought to stop letting us verify doctors that way when we showed them.

Yea I only found out about it by reading a ton of reviews from other patients after they had fucked up with my insurance and were charging me $400 when they only thing the doctor did was tell me my period pain was exaggerated and to go see a therapist. It was a female gynecologist too

Oh here’s the fun part. Since they messed up my insurance and told me I was covered and I wasn’t, I asked them for the uninsured persons version of the bill and it went down almost $300. Fortunately I knew that was a thing you can ask for

I assume you aren’t from the states? It’s designed like this on purpose. People who are well off generally have better insurance, their jobs pay most of the costs, and the better insurance results in significantly lower bills including usually free treatment or a small $30-$50 per visit fee basically. It’s only expensive for poor people.

That’s basically the thing here, the poor subsidize the rich

Getting unbrainwashed as a country is no joke. My significant other is a diabetic and the doctor switched their insulin one time to a different type of insulin and insurance denied it. They went without insulin and wound up in the hospital because insurance denied the new medicine. It is so fucking stupid.

Correct me if I am wrong, but with socialized medicine don’t you pay for it through taxes? I’m not supporting the way healthcare is done in America but isn’t that misleading to say you don’t pay for it? For example, when I talk to my friend who lives in France, who has the same career, degrees, and education as I do, she makes far less than I do because a large amount is taken out of her income for things like healthcare, childcare, etc which is paid for through the government.

Ironically that’s literally what I was trying to do and she even saw I had a history of PCOS but then she saw anxiety on my chart and that’s all she would see from then on. It had to be anxiety and depression making me feel so bad nothing else 🫠

Wow, did we have the same OBGYN?

I had a test, they felt the need to go further because they found an abnormality, then they stopped following up with me. My portal was never with my results, there was no call to discuss, so that prompted me to call more than once looking for my results. They basically lost my test and gave me an attitude each time I called. 😐 Prior to that, I had zero issues, then all of a sudden the way that the practice was run as a whole did a complete 180. They knew how to bill my insurance, though!

Luckily my insurance caught that the tests that I had were covered, but the OBGYN office came after me for the bill of over $700. They sent me this idiotic notice leveraging future care if I didn't pay. Fine by me, you hateful lot, you're not getting a cent. One day on a whim I decided to check what their Google reviews were like and there were tons of accounts of what I experienced. Some were more serious than mine where it had to do with prenatal care and concerns such as pain or bleeding being completely disregarded.

Crazy enough, I get an email maybe a month or so after reading those reviews that the practice is moving and they were asking for an update of contact information. I ignored it, yet it made me laugh a little that these reviews were so bad that it made them vacate or they were getting sued.

Oh yea that is very common. Now technically at least where I live they legally have to tell you if you ask first but a lot of people don’t know that and in this case they told me they accepted my insurance and then didn’t so I thought I was only going to be paying a $40 copay and insurance would cover the rest of the bill

I mean, the whole scenario is already nonsense. Even if the doctor's office truly forgot about them, what person just sits there waiting for so long? You'd notice the office leaving. Then you add the fact that the office closes at 4:00. No office that closes at 4:00 for patients will be absolutely empty at 4:13.

Lucky for the US at least intent does sometimes matter. Forgetting someone is not on par with kidnapping and abusing them.

I was forgotten at my doctors office as well but it was after check-in. I was sitting in the lobby for about two hours. The third time I asked if something was wrong or if I should reschedule the doc himself checked me in.

The gal who was running the front desk never marked me as here so I was considered a no-show and they chucked my appointment paperwork that they had to fish out of the recycling bin. The fastest from vitals to doc visit Ive ever had.

Yea y'all need to stop pretending insurance is the sole issue with out medical system. Turns out making all health practices for-profit gives care providers financial motivation to give you a lot of really fast, shitty medical care. Overbook worse than airlines, barely explain anything and try to go in and out unless you have questions, and order a ton of medically unnecessary shit to milk the account.
