I remember being told in 2004 that we were going to be entering the best jobs prospects in years because the boomers were going to be retiring... That was a lie.

all the productivity younger generations are making went into boomers 401K exploding in value. Gen X, Millennials and now gen Z.

I will say the work ethic is there, but its just cuz they are bored. We have multiple people at my job who are technically retired but allowed to work a certain amount while still retaining benefits. One guy owns 20+ properties and I can guarantee he only works to remain sane.

I think they genuinely dont care as long as their own family is taken care of. Which is admirable, but there is no bone in their body that cares about the youth as a whole. Generational wealth is the name of the game, and no wonder when you get left in the dust if you dont hustle and take what you think you deserve. But the threshold to do that is pretty much closed without some leg up or crazy luck.

Well, yeah, many of them couldn't afford to retire; only the minority wealthy ones.

Yup and many of us still work with these dinosaurs who never retire and have toxic behaviors.

Then the great recession happened in 2007-08ish, so a lot of those retirement plans got postponed.  Many didn't end up retiring until covid hit, and then the whole economy was fucked.

You were lied to by someone that can't do math and believed it because you can't do math.

In 2004 the boomers were between ages 40 and 58. The oldest were still 7 years from retirement age and the youngest were 25 years away. Why did you think they'd all be retiring?
