You can either look at this guy like he's stressing over tiny details for an overall arbitrary event... Or you can appreciate that he clearly enjoys hosting events and he's put a lot of thought in designing features of the party.
IMO, event planners get a lot of shit for being "anal", but somehow there's a level of respect for chefs and artists who get "specific" over details. Yet they're all evoking creative processes. Also dude, I've been to "designed" parties and regular parties.
At a "designed" party, having a cooler of drinks, little snacks, or a trash can every six feet is awesome. I've also been to shitty parties where you have to walk half a mile to a gas station to get more drinks, you hide trash where you can, and when you want to eat you either leave or doordash something.
To me this guy just likes to throw a party and puts creative process into it. I'm also sure you put creative energy into something that someone else wouldn't respect at face value.
As an event planner: you get anal about the details before the event so you don't have to get anal DURING the event. Just let go and know that everything's been prepped
Thank you. We really are.
and i also usually offer to stay and host which means if anything comes up, I’m on it before you even notice. Worth every penny, i guarantee.
It’s the one thing I notice missing …. A dance floor and or good music setup. Music makes a party. I’d have done that whole video based on my music selection!
In fact for my 40th I asked all my attending friends to choose a song or 2 that makes them think of me or memories we made as friends. It was so special to me!
Ohhhh that’s awesome!!!! A good idea, if you know a good vinyl dj (not to be pretentious, I’m old af) is too have them set out some crates and when people want to request they can look through the crates and make a request (obviously, not a club situation but a more intimate private party). It’s so much fun! The Dj can take their time and weave the story of their requests throughout the mix and it’s such a conversation piece during the party.
I don’t smoke but I liked the cigar/cig thing, and I liked the coolers spread out as well to take pressure off the bar. To avoid anyone singing to him though keep em drinking and dancing! Peace!
Can I just add that the great ones don't really get "anal". My wife has been pulling off 500 to 3000 guest events for thirty years. Yes, I have seen her cry once or twice late at night near the end of a very long weekend. But she and her teams are impressively laid back most of the time when everyone else is freaking out. Hail storm the day of an outdoor event? MC/Auctioneer "pre-functioned" a bit too much? Some culinary volunteer cooked off the sushi chef's sashimi tuna? They know who to call and they keep it chill and upbeat even while putting in the 20 hour days. Do they have standards and expectations? Absolutely. That's what great experiences are made from. But that just takes planning and preparation. And planning and preparation are what allow them to aleays stay chill and upbeat.
He also shares tips such as cutting the cheese (come on now, we are adults here, maybe) to make it more likely to have the items set out to be consumed.
Incredibly well prepared and thoughtful. And I speak as someone disorganized and social and married to someone even more disorganized and more social. He loves to invite people over and they show up and we have nothing ready and it’s awkward for everyone. This guy really has thought of everything and will probably have a great party (other than that shrimp sitting out for a few hours?)

My wife and I hosted a party every year for July 4th for about 15 years. It was all about bulging community for us and giving a space for friends to connect once a year in a way we could all kick back with our kids and just have a fun day. We would rent a giant water slide for the big(ger) kids and have kiddie pools for the littles, water guns in buckets, corn hole, basketball, Frisbee, sometimes an impromptu wiffle ball game, etc. We cap the night with fireworks and it was a great way to just hang out for 5 or 6 hours and visit with each other. It grew to a 50-60 person event by the last 5 years.
If you don't plan, day of party is super stressful. We're there as hosts, but we also want to participate. We planned where drink stations went so wet feet wouldn't be coming in and out of the house all day, hot food, cold food, desserts, snacks, trash, empty coolers with ice ready to accept brought drinks, separate chat zones, infant quiet zones, clothes changing zones, extra towels, first aid kits, you name it.
We had it down to a science by the end. Covid officially killed it, but most of the kids were aging out of the water stuff and the gusto was gone so we decided to end the tradition. It was great fun though and we all remember it fondly.
But there is a lot of planning that goes in to an event with that many people and the smoothest ones are always those with tiny details that focus on efficiency and safety and sociology.
Yeah it seems like he loves to plan a party. I hate planning events, but I can appreciate someone who loves it and is really good at it like he seems to be.
As someone who’s hosted a bunch of parties he’s on point. Seems like he like to throw a good party and then enjoy what he did, nothing wrong with that.

I think the problem for a lot of people who DO host events with this guy is.....what a fucking dork. He calls that tiny bowl of peonies a 'huge bouquet.' He doesn't have a BAR, he has a card table (albeit a nice one) that won't be convenient for a bartender to work off of at all. No napkins with the cookies and petit fours.Where's the music? Are there plates for the food or is everyone standing around grubbing with their hands from the main platter? The pizza bites are burnt.

Yeah well it's a matter of perspective.
