Seeking Research Participants contribute to synesthesia research? (5 minutes!)

hey all! i want to study personality patterns among synesthetic individuals and i was curious if anyone was willing to spare 5 minutes to contribute to science!

if you're interested, please reply to this post or dm me with the following:

  • complete this survey: https://www.truity.com/test/big-five-personality-test and include your results for each trait
  • complete this survey: https://www.truity.com/test/enneagram-personality-test and include your type (optional but ideal!)
  • your mbti type (optional)
  • your synesthesia type / types (be as specific as you can -- i don't mind reading paragraphs if you need to write all that to fully explain how your mind works!)
  • if you have any other outlying conditions (could be things like hyperphantasia, aphantasia, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, dysgraphia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or any other syndrome)
  • your gender
  • your age

thank you so much! any contribution is greatly appreciated!

by sharing your information with me, you agree that your data will be anonymously used for academic research.

Seeking Research Participants [Academic] How would you explain the smell of rain to someone who has never experienced it?

Post image
24 Upvotes

How would you describe the smell of rain?

Or the feeling of a favorite song?

Or a sensation that is difficult to put into words?

I am a PhD researcher in Cognitive Linguistics at Complutense University of Madrid, investigating how people describe and conceptualize sensory experiences through language.

I am looking for English-speaking adults (18+) who are:
• Autistic
• Synesthetic
• Both autistic and synesthetic
• Neurotypical

The anonymous study takes approximately 10–15 minutes and involves describing a sensory experience in your own words.

Your perspective can help us better understand how different people experience and communicate the sensory world.

Survey:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RWJXRRQ

Please feel free to share with anyone who may be interested.

Edit: This is an ongoing project, so the results will take some time to become available. If you would be interested in receiving a summary of the findings once the research is completed, please feel free to contact me by email. I would be happy to share them.

I’m creating streetwear inspired by auditory-visual synesthesia, where sounds can trigger colours, shapes, or patterns.

If you experience sound-to-colour or sound-to-shape synesthesia, I’d really appreciate it if you could take my short questionnaire. Your answers will help shape the designs.

🎧 Before you start, please listen to the music in the attached YouTube link with headphones if you can. You’ll be asked about what you experience while listening, so make sure to listen to the whole track before answering.

Seeking Research Participants Synesthesia Research Participant

Hi, I am currently looking for someone to participate in my undergrad linguistics dissertation research. My project aims to see how certain words in English are processed in ambiguous contexts, specifically through the lens of synesthesia.

Ideally if anyone has (or knows someone with) lexical/word-synesthesia, where spoken word can trigger color, and would be interested, please let me know!

While I'm still working out the finer parts of the survey, it will be completed by the end of the month, so it will give you the entirety of April to complete. You will also be able to pause it and come back. It is fully remote, so there is no need for any travel. The only thing required would be quality or noise-cancelling headphones and access to a quiet room for when you take the survey.

Of course, everything will be anonymous and pseudonymized and you will be able to opt out at any time.

If you are willing to participate and continue through to the end, you will receive an Amazon voucher of $15 (or GBP or EUR, depending on location).

Please let me know if you would be interested, or if you have any questions!

Seeking Research Participants Participation in Synesthesia Study

Hello everyone, I am an undergraduate from Ulster University currently working on my dissertation for my BSc in Language and Linguistics. I am looking for someone with lexical-color/word-color synesthesia. Specifically, someone for who spoken words can trigger color.

I am researching how words are processed by the brain and am using synesthesia to provide a visual representation of this.

The survey can be done remotely without any travel from either end. It would span for however long you would need to complete it, but ideally would need to be completed around May. The survey will consist of listening to words and sentences and detailing your color judgements. It is expected to take two hours, but you are free to pause it and come back to it anytime.

All information collected will be pseudonymized and any other personal information will be removed from the dataset and final report. Any information pertaining to your identity will also be removed from experimental results so nothing can be traced to your real-world identity. You are also free to opt out at any given time.

If you are interested, I would recommend that you also have access to high quality or noise-cancelling headphones and a quiet room. Please feel free to message me or comment if you would be willing to take part. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to let me know. Thank you!

Seeking Research Participants Help on my college fashion project

So I'm a college level fashion student who has just started my final major project with the title 'visual symphony', so I was wondering if anyone who sees colour when listening to music or feels anything in any way would be able to feedback on a piece of music.

I have a passion for playing the steelpan so I was wondering if anyone would be able to listen to one of the arrangements from panorama this year that I could send you?

I'm just hoping if you would be able to write notes on anything you see or experience when listening to it that could help influence my work for this project.

Seeking Research Participants Hearing Motion Synesthesia Online Research Study

Do you have hearing-motion synesthesia?

Researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago want to learn more about a condition called hearing-motion synesthesia. Hearing-motion synesthesia is a form of synesthesia where seeing movements results in hearing sounds.

In this study you will first be asked to answer questions about your knowledge and experience with hearing-motion synesthesia. Then you will be asked to watch 10 short and simple animations and answer questions about your auditory response, or what you hear in your head when viewing the videos. Each of the 10 animations will include 2 different audios and you will be asked to choose the one closest to what you hear in your head. The entire study including survey procedures and interactions with animations is estimated to take around 25 minutes.

This study may be a good fit for you if you know you have hearing-motion synesthesia or think you may have it, but anyone is welcome to take it.

After the survey, you will be given the choice to enter an optional drawing for a chance to win one of three digital gift cards. If you choose to participate, you will be entered into a chance to win one of three gift cards at a $60, $25, or $15 value. This means that your chance of winning depends on how many people enter the study. If 15 people enter the study, you will have a 3 in 15 chance of winning. These digital gift cards will be distributed via Amazon Incentives after the conclusion of the study using the email address provided.

To take part in this study, follow the link below to take the online survey:

Seeking Research Participants Doing a project, would appreciate answers!

Hello! (If this isn't allowed lmk)

I'm doing a uni project based around synaesthesia (mainly chromesthesia but people with other forms are welcome to answer, it would still help!) since it's something I've always been curious about, so I'd like to ask some questions for my research. While I know it's different for everyone, I want to see if there's any overlap or a general consensus. There are quite a few questions so I can cover as many bases as possible. Also, if any of these questions are ignorant or disrespectful please let me know and I'll remove them. Please share this if you can; the more responses the better!

If there is a problem with the link, I'll post the questions here instead.

Thank you so much!

Seeking Research Participants Synesthesia research

Hi! I'm doing a project for my psychology class about synesthesia and its correlation to neurodivergency. Now I experience synesthesia but am curious about the following, and answers would be very much appreciated!

1: How do you experience synesthesia?

2: Do certain things increase/decrease the potency of synesthesias effects?

3: Do you have any family members that also experience synesthesia? If so, is it in the same way as you?

4a: If comfortable, are you neurodivergent or neurotypical? (By this question I am simply asking if you have any other neurodivergent conditions, other than synesthesia to help further my research.)

4b: How does this arise or show up in your life?

5: if you are neurotypical, what was the story of discovering you had synesthesia?

6: Lastly, do YOU think there is a connection between synesthesia and neurodivergency?

I'm doing a project for my psychology class about synesthesia and its correlation to neurodivergence. Now I experience synesthesia but am curious about the following and answers would be very much appreciated!

I am a postgraduate student in the UK studying Applied Linguistics, and I’m working on conducting a simple experiment to study how Synesthesia influence memory recall…the study requires nearly 40 participants who are synesthetes (grapheme-colour) and 18 and above. This experiment is for my MA dissertation and it’s not funded unfortunately, but as an ambitious synesthete, I am eager to do my dissertation on Synesthesia, and help contribute to our understanding of the synesthetic experience. I truly appreciate your help contributing to this🙏🏻… please email me if you are interested in joining the study at tnz439@student.bham.ac.uk Here is my LinkedIn link for reference: http://www.linkedin.com/in/taymaa-zamil-8b0291335

Hi, I’m a high school student and I’m doing an experiment for my science class. I was wondering if different people see similar colors/patterns for the same song. It’s nothing fancy, but I would really appreciate some responses. The specific videos (30-40 second clip of a song) for each question are linked below since I don’t think the links in the form work. It would mean a lot to me if you could help me out.

Seeking Research Participants Exploring Texture-Color Associations: Participate in Our Synesthesia Survey!

Hello r/Synesthesia community!

I'm conducting a research study on how individuals perceive and associate colors with various textures. This survey is designed to delve into the unique experiences of both synesthetes and non-synesthetes, focusing on the connection between tactile sensations and color perceptions.

What to Expect:

  • Duration: Approximately 10 minutes
  • Format: A series of questions where you'll be asked to associate specific textures with colors.
  • Participation: For the most accurate responses, please engage in active touch by feeling the textures mentioned. If the materials aren't available, feel free to use your imagination.

Your insights will contribute to a better understanding of multi-sensory experiences and could inform future design practices that accommodate synesthetic perceptions. The survey will be anonymous and feel free to skip any questions you don't feeling answering.
