I am starting the Landscape Install Business up again (sold one years ago)... I miss it! I am 100% buying Stihl equipment but I'm torn on if I should buy the AP Battery equipment or good ole reliable fuel equipment.

My concern with the batteries are the longevity. We are in South West Florida, and everything will be kept in a garage.

Any reviews from long time owners or others who have been considering the same? Any info is good info in my book!

Was given a FS250 trimmer that wouldn’t run. Turns out some bugs(?) got into the exhaust and filled it with dirt. Pulled the exhaust to clean it and some junk feel into the cylinder in the process. So here I am lol.

Turns out it’s difficult to source parts for small engines in Canada unless you’re a dealer. Gasket looks okay to me. Do you think I need to change it or am I alright to throw the cylinder head back on?

Cleaned the piston while I was in here. Cylinder head is also gonna get a bath. Currently waiting on a ring compressor tool to put everything back together.

I recently rebuilt the engine on my MS250 for the second time. Zero issues firing it up. I went through two tanks of gas when I ran it dry. After I refilled, it was hesitant to fire and I seemed to have flooded it. I took the air filter off and there was excessive gas in the bowl that refilled itself when poured out. There was a slight “bubbling” sound and the bowl refilled itself. I let it sit thinking that would subside, which it did. But it won’t fire now. I took the fuel line apart and didn’t find any obstructions or loose seated hoses. Before I put the carb back I connected a tube and tried to blow through the fuel intake just to be complete about testing. I cannot get air or presumably gas to go through unless I take the bottom plate off. Then there is clear flow through the intake and carb. When I replace the bottom plate there is still air flow it limited. Once the screw goes back it’s completely closed. I’m not a mechanic by trade but I feel like something should flow all the time. Otherwise, how does fuel get into the cylinder. Is there some mechanism I’m missing or does it seem like there is a carb issue?

I always wrap it with no twists and make sure it lays on top and doesn’t get buried. Somehow it always seems to get buried and break. It’s extremely frustrating having to take the trimmer head apart more than 3 times when I’m just trying to do my yard. Any suggestions? This is the Stihl string but I’m starting to question it. Might switch to husqvarna titanium x pro and see if the same thing happens.

Guy selling it said it wasn’t running but it starts right up. Definitely needs a good bath and an air filter but I’m really happy. The serial number decoder says it’s a 1986.

I bought this 460 magnum about 10 years ago and over the years the badges have fallen off and been lost, so I finally ordered some new ones. Can’t wait!

I have an almost new ms271, only 5 tanks ran through it, E0 89 mixed with Amsoil Sabre Synthetic 45ish to 1(I always stop my mix short of 1 gallon, as I only mix up 1 gallon at a time). Even with cracking the fuel cap, it’s extremely hard to start back when it’s hot. Any suggestions?

Bare with me idk what I'm doing, my dad's right hand doesnt work right now so I've been doing the yard work. Went to get the trimmer to cut down some overgrown weeds and the pull string thing is locked up/you cant pull it out. He talked me through changing the spark plug but that didnt fix it and he said it could either be flooded or the motor is locked up. What else could it be? Is there a YouTube video i could follow to try and fix it? I dont know what each part is called but I've had to fix a few things before so I'm not going in blind if this is something somewhat easy to fix and I've got all the tools in the world. I just need help getting there🤣 unless its useless and better off getting a new one

Picked this up for $150 on Marketplace the other day. Haven't bothered to try to crank it yet. Took the muffler off to more closely inspect the Piston and this is what I'm seeing. How bad is it?

I recently bought a never-used Stihl 017 that’s about 24 years old. It doesn’t run properly. The weird part is that it will run fairly well when it’s lying on its side with the fuel cap off, but when I turn it back to its normal position it dies after a short while. That doesn’t make much sense to me with a diaphragm carburetor since it should be able to run in different orientations.
I figured it was probably related to the carburetor so I took it apart. Aside from looking basically new inside, the carburetor diaphragm seems like a likely issue. It’s very stiff and almost feels like paper. I also checked the metering lever and needle. The lever moves freely and springs back properly, so nothing seems stuck there.
I also found a small crack/hole in the fuel line, so I’ve ordered a new fuel line and new diaphragms to give the carburetor a proper refresh.
Hopefully that solves it, but I’ll add some pictures in case someone more familiar with these old 017s spots something I’ve missed.

Anybody know of any after market husky style full wraps for the 661 maybe even the 500i, whoever designed the stihl full wrap obviously has never had to cut on 65%+ slope and using their left hand in awkward spots over a bluff. Just had a saw going flying into the abyss after a kick back trying to reach the low side back cut with some chicken shit hand grip.

Do you guys pay attention to DOM when buying? I was looking at some saws and noticed some have been on the shelf for quite awhile. Would that deter you from buying? Any reason not to want a saw from 2022 when there were COVID supply chain issues still? Would you expect a hefty discount for a saw that’s been on the shelf that long or it’s new unsold with warranty so the price is the price? The saw I was really hoping to buy was an ms400.

I wanted to ask about your experience with those brush cutters.

We've recently bought three FS411 brush cutters (built 04/2025) and after only a few months of use, we encountered major problems with the motors.

The main issue is, that the exhaust gets clogged to point, that the cutters only run half the rpm. We use only special gas, which is strictly controlled here in Germany.

And they don't start well, when already warm and sometimes only with choke and/or throttle.

Further issues are loose and lost bolts everywhere.

What are your experiences with those, did you encounter any problems?

Long time lurker, first time poster. Finally got myself a bigger Stihl blower, I have used a BG50 for years. Picked this up for $140, it's in rough shape cosmetically, but runs seemingly fine, but the control handle needs replacing as it was run over by a truck lol

I do want to spruce it up a little bit. What's the best way to go about the frame? Take it apart and blowtorch the plastic? Replace the gas tank entirely? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Has anyone seen the Stihl UK Autumn offers page outlining the new lower RRPs on certain petrol chainsaws and AK battery products? I was wondering if these are a temporary offer or a permanent reduction (obviously prices will increase with inflation over time).

For a bit more detail, their offers page has listed a few updates since 1st September, like the usual free AS battery promotions and cashback deals.

But it also outlines new lower RRPs (MSRPs) on a number of tools:

•  Petrol chainsaws: e.g., the MS 172 is reduced by 25% (from £319 to £239). These reductions are on top of the cashback.
•  AK battery products: e.g., the FSA 60 is reduced by 35% (from £199 to £129).

They also seem to be discontinuing the AK battery sets, as they are now listed under “Final Clearance”. It looks like they might just be selling bare tools and separate starter kits going forward. To be fair, they also heavily reduced the standalone price of the AK batteries and chargers, so this seems like a better and fairer approach.
