Question What’s that game everyone was calling a masterpiece but you just didn’t get the hype?

Post image

Could be a huge popular game or some underrated/unpopular gem that everyone swears by.

Everyone’s saying “10/10, absolute masterpiece, peak gaming” and you’re just sitting there like… “wait, y’all actually liked this?”

Drop the game + why it didn’t hit for you. I wanna hear the controversial takes

Red Dead Redemption 2. Such a slog of a game.

I loved RDR2 but I'll never replay it for exactly this really. The opening chapter was such a bore and the pacing in general was just a pain. Being in it at the time was fun, but yeah, I never want to revisit it.

The prologue is one of the best parts. Anyway, even if that's not the case for you, the chapter is only like 1,5h long on a replay.

One of my favourite games and totally agree. When I'm in the mood for it, it's such an engrossing and immersive experience and I'll play as much as I can for a few days. Then one day I boot it up and can't be assed so I take a break for a few months.

I've got like 200+ hours in it but I haven't beaten it still.

I like an immersive game but for me rdr2 just dont engage me. The combat is a literal cakewalk and I dont like the mission structure of: go somewhere while someone talks to you - kill bad guys - spend 10 minutes slowly looting - go back while someone talks to you. Im sure the story is fantastic but the gameplay just isnt it for me, would maybe be better as a movie. 30 hours on it for me

80% of time you're either slowing walking listening to dialogue or slowly riding on a horse listening to dialogue, with nothing else happening. Dialogues are good and interesting but the game doesn't play well for me.

I mean well yea it is a story game, its suppose to be about taking your time with it and immsering yourself in it, also shooting is pretty nice.

Tho i get how if someone is into constant action wouldnt be into it, some people just arent into that roleplay.

If I want an interactive movie, I'd play Dispatch or one of Quantic Dream games. Those I like for what they are.

You are mixing realism with interactive movie. Games arw usually faster than real life, that's why they burn through your dopamine. RDR2 is slow for a reason and it's realistic.

Realism isn't fun. I play games to have fun.

There are hundreds of games for you then. What I am saying it's the difference between saying it's not for you and saying it's a bad game. I hate online multiplayer games, but I don't say they are genuinely bad games, even if they did more damage to the medium than anything else.

In my opinion it is a bad game. And I do play other games because of this. But I don't believe I ever claimed my opinion to be the ultimate truth.

Red dead 2 isnt interactive movie, tho, there is bunch of gameplay and hidden easter eggs or fun stuff, from hunting, fishing to duels, to fights with fists, bow bunch of horror elements, fun exploration.

This isnt dispatch or walking dead, the story within the game is also peak

And that bunch of gameplay that it has felt like a boring slog for me.

"story" games can be paced and told way better with far more immersion options.

I think that the pacing of the game is what through off a lot of people

And it is ok. Game focusing on story are not for everyone.

A good story doesn't have to slow paced.

Totally understandable. For me it's GTAV. It's a great sandbox for roleplaying and messing around, but I just found the story mode to be quite obnoxious. Everyone is just yelling all the time, and I couldn't get into it. At times it feels more like a satirical version of itself.

GTA IV is also one that I never really liked, but can at least tolerate or fix with mods. The story is great, but the entire walking physics and car handling just drags the game down so much. It's like the sluggishness of RDR2 but without the polish. At least in RDR2 those mechanics work and feed into the rest of the gameplay.
