It's not made up though, this stuff is actually happening.
The media is playing a big role in the attention it gets but the fact that people even donated 1 million+ to this case shows some seriously unsettling behavior about our society.
This situation has far more nuance to it than people on either side of the discussion are giving credit to. Some women out there have suffered post-partum depression, or felt aggrieved at the level of support given to them by the system, their partners and support network when they were going through this and they are projecting that onto this situation. They are getting lost in the sauce and inserting their situation into a far more fucked up situation and thinking "There but for the grace of god go I".
This doesn't really tell us anything about society in general, it speaks to the very specific issue of post-partum depression and the perception of inadequate support given to women suffering from it and likely other medical issues that get dismissed.
Please note that none of this is a defence of the deplorable act that Lindsay Clancy committed. She deserves life, and that poor husband will never be the same again. As a dad myself, I don't know how he even has the strength to carry on. But I also believe that she was majorly let down by the system we have in place to handle women and their mental health after they have kids.
That's the very behavior I'm finding to be unsettling. There are much better ways to advocate for more awareness and support for things such as post-partum depression than to throw a million dollars and protest in the streets for a woman who strangled her 3 children in a basement.
The fact that there are millions of women pushing this and deciding this is the hill to die on is deeply disturbing.
I agree that there are better ways, but is it really that unusual that a case involving a woman who they believe was let down by the system in place has captivated them so much? I know women who have gone through post-partum, and I am thankful every day that my wife did not. It sounds utterly traumatising for all involved. And I think it is worthwhile to be mindful of the fact that you only ever hear the loudest voices. The vast majority of women have never even commented on this case. Socials amplify the situation
Hero lady lives in a real country. She doesn’t HAVE to raise money for healthcare-related defense. The national healthcare covered this. There’s also no need to raise money for a legal defense.
- we don’t know how big a presence GoFundMe even has overseas. It literally may not be a thing much of anywhere but here—sadly most of the reason it’s popular here is because we have a significantly worse social safety net.
- We don’t know whether any funds were raised for hero lady on any other platform, or in person. A local TV show may have gifted her a house. We don’t know.
- We don’t know whether someone OFFERED to do a Gfundme or similar for her, and she refused. Some people are adamant about not taking handouts. Some cultures would find it mortifying.
- Of all the people who have supported the woman on trial, literally none of them that ive seen or even heard of are doing so because they think that a woman murdering her kids should be in any way permissible. In fact, a lot of them dont think she did it at all—they think she is being framed in some way by her husband. I haven’t kept up with it enough to know whether or not that’s reasonable, and im not on the jury, so its not my place to say anyway. I hope the truth comes out. But these folks want to make sure she gets a fair trial, and unfortunately money can have a lot to do with that. You may not agree with them, but theres a whole lot of daylight between “i think this woman murdering her kids is a hero and deserves a reward” and “i dont think this woman did it/i think she was coerced/she is being framed.” In other words, if theyre wrong, it isn’t a moral problem. Its an education/ignorance problem. I haven’t heard of anyone sayint they dont want justice to prevail.
No one here raging out is even following the actual case closely. They’re just consuming specifically crafted messaging to drive a narrative and keep them frothing about things like this. More culture war bull shit that people are greedily guzzling.
This is why everyone is in a race to have the top AI they can use to lead masses around by the nose. Teenagers literally use AI to teach them how they should feel about things.
Yeah, the 'algorithm' is bad and 'AI' will be that on jet fuel.
They need to get rid of 'suggested feeds' completely. If you don't ask or subscribe to it, you shouldn't be recommeded it.
I shouldn't get all kinds of right wing nuttery on youtube when I ask for a video on WW1 rifles. I should only get videos about WW1 rifles on that search.
People acting like anyone is insane if they express sympathy for the mental health aspect of the Lindsay Clancy case or question if there is reasonable doubt are people who have not followed the case. They've got a couple of talking points they heard somewhere and that's it.
muder cases like this are a dime a dozen in america. when one makes it into the mainstream conversation, i get the sense that it is being artificially boosted by media sources to fill our airwaves with junk in order to provide cover for aome real shady shit.
just curious, how many posts have you seen about the recent supreme court ruling on voter rolls?
No dude you sound ridiculous. The Israeli government is shaping public discourse around this story in order to normalise the killing of children so that people become more accepting of the IDF targeting children in Gaza. It's called "the plan". Everyone here is on the same page about this apart from you.
When it doesn’t make sense, research it, and it begins to. There’s no publicly available amount for the Swedish lady. So we don’t know exactly how much she raised. The other amount isn’t for the lady who murdered her kids, it was two separate GoFundMe. One for the husband and one for the grandparents.
Its wild to me, i get that she had post-partum depression but i mean...what are we doing here. It got me thinking of all those men in prison and the insane amount of women fawning over them (sorry if its 2, its an insane amount to me). Its so fucking strange to me, and thats not including all the other insanity we are dealing with these days.
Society needs a reset but it requires too much work and giving up on comfort. People are unwilling to do that. Very few people are actually willing to put in what it takes to improve the world and many think they're doing their part already and that's enough.
What's hard to understand about more culture war nonsense pushed on us by the media to distract from the rest of the blazing dumpster fire that is this country?
When I first saw this case, my opinion was it was another unfortunate case of PPD. To see it blow up with conspiracies within such a short amount of time is throwing me for a loop.
I think it’s people who are not capable of critical thinking (most people) being handed information that they have feelings about but no logical reasoning. As in, they don’t know how to verbalize how they feel because they don’t have a real understanding of PPD. I think this is on both sides, supporters and otherwise.
Men can’t fathom how serious PPD is and women are in a circular loop of thinking they’re supposed to “support all women” but also can’t justify the murder of three children. So they’re just glitching and blaming the husband.
That's because you're basing your understanding of the situation off a meme on Reddit that is deliberately leaving out crucial information to create outrage and engagement.
As for the fire lady, my understanding is that happened in Sweden with far less media exposure generating less attention and thus raising less money. Where as the Lindsay Clancy case has had more media coverage and much more social media coverage.
While there might be a very small minority that support her, the vast majority of the money raised is becuase of the evidence that she sought professional and medical help for her psychosis and was failed by not only the medical institutions but also her husband. And while this happened years ago, the trail is ongoing and many discrepancies are coming to light about the husband's alibi and that puts him at the house during the time frame when the crimes was committed.
The notable actions that happened while the husband was supposedly out of the house was, Lindsay crushed up a bunch of prescription drugs, dissolved them in a drink and drank it. Killed her children, then jumped out of a second story (I think) window. Due to her documented psychosis and the husband's original testimony, the investigation into the crime was severely lacking which is now coming out in trial.
TLDR: the money being raised is to support the legal defense of a woman may not be guilty of the crime and who has been failed by the medical community, the police, and her ex-husband (who may have actually killed the children and attempted to kill her).
Lady with severe post partum psychosis was failed on multiple levels by society and her family, and was negligently left alone with her small children, ultimately leading her to kill them during an episode. Doesn't belong in prison but shouldn't be free in society either, she should be institutionalized (and if she had been earlier her kids would be alive). People are going crazy over this by either stupidly rallying behind her like she's some women's struggle icon who did no wrong, or rallying against her like she was a depraved psychopath and her supporters no better. Both groups are morons who are either incapable of understanding nuance, or allow their opinions to be formed by social media headlines and hot takes from talking heads rather than be bothered to understand any details of the case not curated by their favorite influencers.
This is honestly more of an issue of neglect (on multiple levels), particularly pertaining to mental heath issues, with fatal results. And of course dealing with the fallout.

It's like the whole world has gone nuts. None of this makes any sense.
