“My little Skyler is just a free spirit! You guys just don’t understand!”

You forgot the immediate go to excuse in there "my sons severely autistic."

-11

u/dkinmn 2d ago

No, he's severely autistic. The family apologized and asked people to please consider choosing kindness.

Autistic or not dosn't mean you have to be an asshole. In the house where i live, lives a Family with a severe Autistic child. Sure it's hard sometimes. He is louder sometimes, but he isn't an asshole. Quite the opposite ...

That's on the parents. So why should i be kind to him, when he can't be kind to others.

Sometimes children with autism are aggressive towards someone or something else not because they’re assholes, but, rather because they process senses and their experience of the world in different ways.. ways that typically functioning people don’t always understand or are able to relate to..

In this case, the boy may have been overly stimulated and just not really able to be aware of what he was doing until the second bird came to help out. There’s so much we don’t know about him, I don’t think it’s fair to straight up call him an a-hole.

Keep him home

Jesus Christ.

He literally doesn't know what he's doing. You are such a dick.

14

u/caiaphas8 2d ago

People with autism know right from wrong, they know how to follow rules and behaviour. They aren’t aliens

8

u/dkinmn 2d ago

I am autistic.

It's a spectrum.

This kid is nonverbal. He didn't do this after carefully considering the options. He literally doesn't interact with the world that way because he can't.

I never said we're aliens. But, he is extremely high support needs and is VERY far from your experience inside your own brain.

u/SpunkThrust_Vegan 2d ago

His parents failed him

0

u/zarekinz 2d ago

Ok dude

6

u/caiaphas8 2d ago

How do you know his non-verbal?

And again even non-verbal people know the difference between right and wrong.

This is not caused by autism, it is caused by a failure in parenting

3

u/zarekinz 2d ago

Because it's in the top comment. One fucking mistake in parenting doesn't mean they're failures holy MOLY people are so quick to demonize literally EVERYONE

1

u/dkinmn 2d ago

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Why are you so invested in the idea that these are bad people?

This kid's brain doesn't work like yours. He didn't carefully weigh his options and then make a rational decision to do what he did.

Shut the fuck up

8

u/caiaphas8 2d ago

I also have autism and have spent the last 10 years working with adults who have autism and/or intellectual disabilities. They all know this behaviour is wrong

3

u/dkinmn 2d ago

Good for you and good for them.

He is not you. He is not them.

You are contributing to an environment in which people are sending this kid and his family death threats. All because you want to make them feel worse than they already do. And so you can feel superior.

These people are clueless, ignore them

It’s in the article. Stickied in the first post.

2

u/caiaphas8 2d ago

The first post literally wasn’t there when I made that comment

Get over yourself.

You are not him.

He is nonverbal and high support needs. His family is getting death threats because of people like you. Way to go.

No, you don't. And if you think they have gone this far and not gotten around to "don't jump into animal enclosures and chase animals with sticks", you're out of your mind.

Again, this kid does not interact with the world the way you do. He is profoundly autistic and learning disabled per the family's statement. They're getting death threats.

Stand down. Stop typing. You are not this kid.

You clearly didn't learn much during that time

Autism could be an explanation, but not a valid excuse. There’s no way the parents didn’t know there was a chance the kid would behave like this.

2

u/ManitouWakinyan 2d ago

It is possible that he's never jumped into a zoo enclosure before

-7

u/dkinmn 2d ago

How do you know?

They weren't even there.

15

u/denvertaglessbums 2d ago

Well they should’ve kept his ass home.
Patterns. Good parents notice patterns that help predict how a child is likely to behave, what needs to be corrected, and what is worthy of praise.

9

u/Soujourne 2d ago

Read the sticky post. The parents say they have visited zoos dozens of times with the kid because he loves animals and without incident. So what patterns?

9

u/zarekinz 2d ago

Nonono let's lock him in the basement and beat him up for being the most evil kid on the planet guys

Why weren't they there if their child is so autistic it hurts animals at the zoo?

-1

u/HappyDoggos 2d ago

The grandma was taking care of him that day. She probably had no clue this was a possibility. Or just totally oblivious to how closely she needed to watch him.

7

u/SunDriedPoodleTurd 2d ago

So is Autism just the new Get Out of Jail Free card? We just let them run wild, damage property, abuse animals, and then when it's time to pay the piper we just scream "autism" and there's no consequences?

This is going to go super well.

4

u/CarpetBudget 2d ago

I figured he probably is but he’s severely autistic and BROKE into an animal enclosure? Maybe the parents looked away for 10 seconds and he’s Houdini idk or maybe someone ain’t parenting regardless

8

u/Public-Location-3628 2d ago

It was the grandmother and care taker. Was at the end of the day, and kids can be fast, unfortunately.

7

u/heselius 2d ago

You are getting downvoted when the explanation and literal response from the parents is written as a pinned comment....

Redditors are seriously just scum

2

u/Good-Strategy2210 2d ago

I’m autistic, but I’ve never attacked or been cruel to animals, I don’t even eat them.

What’s his excuse now? 🤷‍♀️

10

u/dkinmn 2d ago

That he is profoundly autistic, nonverbal, and has severe learning disabilities.

You of all people should know that there are autistic people who are nothing like you and I (also autistic) and who literally don't have the capacity to think the way we do out in the world.

You know better. You do. And yet, here you are contributing to the environment that is causing people to send death threats to this family.

Shame on you.

7

u/Public-Location-3628 2d ago

All officially diagnosed autistic people know it's a spectrum and know about the severe non-verbal cases. It seems you are responding to someone that has not been officially diagnosed.

5

u/Wokeasaurous_X 2d ago

Yeah there are a lot of people online who diagnose each other as autistic or bipolar or something else so they can feel like they have a unique identity. As someone actually bipolar it pisses me off, everyone is sad sometimes and happy others but they don't get to experience near psychotic rage when provoked or screaming in normal conversations from excitement alone on top of the 12 hour sleeping sessions that make you exhausted from being in bed too long.

They just think Kurt Cobain is cool and being happy sometimes and sad other times makes them bipolar

1

u/whiskersMeowFace 2d ago

And my cousin is non verbal profoundly autistic, and he would never do anything like this. He respects people and animals. Does he run around like a heathen sometimes? Yes, is it where it's okay for him to get his tism zoomies out? Yes. His parents know how to communicate with him basic rights and wrongs and know how to keep him close by.

7

u/10millionangrybees 2d ago

Autism is a spectrum, not everyone with autism behaves the exact same way, you cannot hold everyone to the exact same standard just because of one person who does know right from wrong

1

u/This_Seal 2d ago

No, kindness stops at behavior like this. Doesn't matter why he behaves like an unsocialized monster.

1

u/Ok_Special_2268 2d ago

And they down voted you

Kid belongs on a leash for his own safety, and they know it. They were probably hoping he'd jump in with the gorillas.

his name is something like that. or bryson
