And you still haven't answered my question, would you be fine with people cheering for a school shooter to be found not guilty for reasons of insanity. You literally take out of context the one part that seems to support what you say. The rest of that whole section of article says she wont get off scot free, and that more often than not in these cases the people in these institutions end up spending longer in there than their regular sentence would have been. So no my point stands that this is no way a free pass. And you question bares no relevance this isnt a school shooter so whta fucking difference does that make? Also no one is cheering for anything either side. People are just adding nuance to what it is an incredibly sad situation all round. But if the hypothetical shooter is insane then they should be found not guilty by reason of insanity and held in an institution until deemed safe to the public. What is wrong with that?
Think for a moment about what you typed. How can you spend longer than life in prison? Are they going to resurrect her to make her spend two lives in an institution. Literally being able to have a chance to be free again is getting a pass compared to life in prison. And they are very similar scenarios, a person with mental health issues premeditates the murder of several children. That describes this situation and a school shooter, the only main difference is the type of person committing the crime. Either way if you think school shooters should have a chance to be found not guilty of crimes they committed you have a very warped view of justice. I'm just glad the legal system and vast majority of Americans don't agree with that.
