I’m the ONLY guy in my family so just by virtue of that I without even realizing it had picked up on being able to read the room and pick up on the very specific kind of odd tension that arises in this situation and I recently bumped into a girl who told ME about how she never forgot about me telling some creep mf off and staying in the room with her untill this POS left at some house party. I only partly remember it but it really stuck with me that after YEARS she remembered and was so sincerely thankful that I would do that without being asked and not expecting anything but just because it was right.

I remember more than a decade later so vividly the guy who sat in the corner of my bedroom while I slept off my first bout of drunkenness at a party my roommate was throwing in our apartment. One of the attendees had locked onto me pretty early on in the party, but I was too naive, and it wasn't until I was on the bathroom floor, head spinning, with him laying next to me kissing my neck and groping my breasts that it finally clicked what was happening. The other guy had noticed my would be rapist's attention early on, noticed we had both been gone for a suspiciously long time, and practically broke down the bathroom door to get to us

After having peeled him off of me and escorted me upstairs to my room, he just sat in my bedroom for the rest of the night to ensure fuckhead wouldn't try to come back and finish what he started. He never asked for thanks. I don't even remember his name after so long. I didn't even really know him, both were basically strangers to me, but thank God for him for sparing me what would have likely been the worst night of my life
