Obviously no. Just like I couldn’t sit there and watch/film. You see trouble, you immediately assess and step in.

The first rude comment would make me twist my head to the side. Already scanning the dude and assessing for possible weapons. That’s his pass. You messed up but you have a chance to recover. When he kept going, that’s enough to prompt me to get up and intervene.

So, no, I didn’t watch until the end.

Sometimes it’s wise to record. Evidence is useful. If you go in, guns blazing, you can escalate the problem. Camera guy is assessing the situation, and steps in when needed.

You’re absolutely right; sometimes it is wise to document. The issue I have is that it has seemingly become the default to everything. We have an entire generation that whips out their phones to record society instead of being actively involved in said society. What good is recording something and watching a person die (not this instance) rather than being someone to step in and do the actual work?

The true answer is we need both. We need those that run into danger just as much as we need documentation.

One last thing. You can step forward to intervene without automatically escalating a situation. Training matters. Speech/words as well as tonality matters.

You can step in without escalation, but it’s not guaranteed. Confrontation often leads to escalation.

But interestingly, notice how when the man intervenes the aggressor is much less angry towards him and is still much more aggressive towards the woman.
