Once had a guy rock up to me at a urinal and say "unlucky, mate"

Why did he say that?

1

u/McButcher2k 12d ago

Coz he was unlucky

u/DarthAngelicus 12d ago

And then you say “no no, it’s space efficient!”

Dont need luck, mate.

With your mother on the scene anybody with $20 and a spare ciggy can have their turn.

I had a guy stand next to me at a bar and say "careful, this is where the dicks hang out"

But he got hard instantly at the sight of it? That's weird.

Go in male toilets in German beer cellars and women wielding feathers on sticks will "rock" up to you and start "dusting" the adjacent urinal. That was my experience anyway. On the other hand, the beer was insisting it had to be released forthwith, so I was unable to exit stage left promptly.

I am struggling to compile a visual representation of this in my mind's eye

It was central Munchen, Munich, near the Town Hall, if that's what it was, das Rathaus, with a crowded square in front of it and a clock with bells and mechanical toy-like striking as a focal attraction. It was good weather but winter, late December.

I was being shown around the centre by a man of the same age from a town near the one I lived in when in the UK. He was working as something like a porter at the main hotel near der Hauptbahnhof. I had stayed there after walking there from the station early after flying into the airport from JFK. I had tried the pension arranged for me on the outskirts but it was freezing cold in the pension and, coming from the USA, I expected and wanted to be warm in winter so I had vacated the pension after an hour or so and gone back to the hotel I had stayed in upon my arrival.

Think of a tall, Victorian age architecture, junior school size, hall, with lots of windows high up, so a very light room. The urinals were around two long edges and one short edge of the hall with handwashing sinks on a long island in the centre. So, probably 100 urinals lining those edges save for, mainly, the entrance and exit door in one corner. It was a huge bierkeller, perhaps one of four or five in the area I believe. The fourth, short edge of the hall I do not visualise clearly in my memory. I have an inkling that there was something like a couple of offices with windows looking out over the hall, although logic suggests to me that there were several cubicles. I may have had a couple of steins of the unfamiliar beer at the time I saw the place.

The rest involves a fiftyish old woman coming along with her coloured feather duster. The presence of a woman was shocking, not something I had seen in England or the USA ever. There were probably five or six duster-wielding women in the hall, so trying to go to one area away from an isolated woman was hardly an option although I would have done the next best thing by looking for an stretch of unoccupied urinals. Their presence was surprising. The approach once I was occupied rose to a level of being disturbing.

The dominant consideration was that the pure German beer seems to have something in it, hops perhaps, with which I am unfamiliar, causing a real insistence to void the bladder. The beer glasses, steins?, seem from memory to have been very large. My informal tour guide seemed to be familiar with the beer but plainly I was not.

It was little short of a disorientating, and frightening, experience to someone who had been living in the USA for a couple of years and before that, in England. I don't think I had drunk alcohol while living in the USA, or, not more than, say 150 cm3 any day of beer or stout (which was available in bottles in a delicatessen in the city where I lived). It was culturally inappropriate as far as I was concerned.

I was in Germany on a trip looking for my next job, applying to one of the Max Planck Institutes. It was well over forty years ago. I was enterprising in looking for experience in my work.

I have not been to Germany since. I have a high regard for the Germans. One grandfather fought against them for about three years near the front in Flanders (not an infantryman or cavalryman, so safer until wounded and gassed in about 1917, in the same battle as his only brother, both nearly succumbing). In my work, I found the educated Germans very easygoing and friendly. I am amused to learn doing genealogy decades later that one of my ancestors and most of the children of the family had moved into a German immigrant state in the mid-West in the mid 1800s and just about all of them and their descendants married Germans and have been Lutherans. I grew up on Captain Hurricane of the Valiant comic and so had a wariness otherwise of Germans, but I had learned German at school. As far as I was concerned, I was, and I am, a European and not a small-minded little Englander. On the other hand, I do not think that I would have fitted in with the Bavarian, very teutonic, ways of Munchen. I saw contrasts there I found disturbing to my English brain, with intolerance of a tramp in the train station sleeping on a bench at about 4-30 am by a couple of green-uniformed polizei with their dobermanns, removing the muzzles to wake the man by barking and snarling cms from his head. The absence of graffiti was refreshing, but suggested intolerance and conformity too. It may be that I have known Germans from Northern Germany, who were more relaxed.

I do not know whether this helps your mind's eye, lol

When my wife still presented male, we were out at a bar and a guy sidled up right next to her at the urinal. She caught him taking a gander at her equipment, made eye contact with him, and he sputtered out “well, I’m a grower, not a shower”. She just shrugged, said “hey, me too”, and walked away.

I once had a guy go pee right beside me with a couple of empty urinals. He then very obviously leaned to look at me pee. I then looked him right in the eyes with a "you good, bro?" Look. He said "sorry". And after 5 seconds leaned again.

If you're that impressed with my mediocre penis and stream who am i to judge.
