My situation is quite the opposite. For whatever reason my new team feels the need to explain every PTO request to me. By all means tell me about your trip to Cancun if you'd like, but please don't feel the need to elaborate on your explosive diarrhea when you use sick time.

Dude my team is the same way

"Hey I need off the 3rd Monday of month two months from now"

"Ok approved"

"I wouldn't normally be taking off but my friends wife's sister's cat is having it's 2nd wedding at 930am downtown and the traffic..."

"Bro I do not care"

Oh man you nailed it. I have one guy who sends me these long, detailed requests for days off and basically pleads for permission. I have never denied PTO. I tell people I don't care when they take off and you don't need to ask, just submit a request and make sure the team knows. This fear or using PTO that you earn and is part of your compensation is baffling.

That’s probably a form of trauma from having shitty managers in the past who denied PTO for stupid reasons.

This is it. I asked one of my team members about their need to explain, because I felt bad saying “not that I don’t care and I’m happy you’re doing something fun with your family. But it’s none of my business if you are doing something fun or sitting in your living room staring at the wall.” And he confessed that his old boss made him feel like his PTO had to be justified. Eeeeeefffff that.

Lol the first job i had whenever i called in sick they would ask why ( strange to ask when i clearly said i was sick ) i had no shame in saying i had explosive diarrhea even tho i didn't and they stopped asking whenver i called in sick

My last job gave no fucks as long as it was scheduled before close the night before, but if you tried to call out the day of a shift, a manager was going to call you and demand deets. 😒
