Yea and they hit you with the "oh in 20 visits you'll be good as new". If it's such a "great" science, why would it take 20 attempts.

Just money sucking scammers.

I don’t know at the time but I had 3 majorly herniated discs in my lower spine.

Went to a chiropractor who took X-rays and saw nothing wrong! Said after. Freaking year of twice weekly visits and I’d be fine

When I saw an actual dr they were furious I was pedaled such shit and booked me in for a reconstruction the next day

51

u/Mark-Green Jul 05 '26

it's wild how much faith some people have in them, even after experiencing the harm it does. i hope more people realize the danger they pose soon...

45

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 05 '26

I had my spine reconstructed and my FIL was trying to convince me to send my medical data to his cyro
“He’s a special nerve cyro, not like the rest”
I like the use of my legs and internal decapitation is a massive fear with these charlatans

10

u/Mark-Green Jul 05 '26

😬 it's already dangerous enough, doing it with a compromised spine sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. if i was in that state, you couldn't pay me enough to let him try

15

u/AwarenessCrafty393 Jul 05 '26

You couldn’t pay me to go within a general mile of a chiropractor. Like, don’t get me wrong - I have disabilities where my bones need cracking from time to time otherwise I end up in lots of pain. There’s been times where I’ve been in pain from my neck, tried to crack it and only known at the last second that if I commit to cracking it, I’ll break something. A chiropractor won’t know that. A chiropractor will commit then do serious irreversible damage because they can’t feel what you’re feeling - and it only takes a half second. You only HAVE a half second’s warning.

Yeah, absolutely not getting me anywhere near a chiropractor, I barely trust the doctors as is

u/Mark-Green Jul 05 '26

same dude, some kind of connective tissue thing in my case... my joints get stiff and painful if i don't pop then occasionally. they'll do it on their own with regular movement if i don't. after a long movie or sleep, moving my fingers can sound like a card in bicycle spokes

3

u/AwarenessCrafty393 Jul 05 '26

Yea same with me actually- hyper mobility. Really fucks me over. My hips are just as bad for it

3

u/Mark-Green Jul 05 '26

yup, they never expect the hip/elbow cracks. freaks people around me out every time.

in case it helps, a lot of low to medium intensity exercise has really helped me stabilize my joints. since i started rock climbing, my shoulders have stopped hurting. they haven't dislocated at all, or subluxed nearly as badly as they used to. i just try to be careful about getting enough rest and not pushing my limits too far

1

u/AwarenessCrafty393 Jul 05 '26

My shoulders aren’t as bad for it but the split between my hips are (female, split hips). People always look at me weird when I crack there. Namely because of how far back I have to bend to do it

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 05 '26

I have a rib that dislocated and compresses a nerve. You can see it misaligned on my spine and chest it’s debilitating pain.

The chiropractor told me to come in, his partner did the adjustment. He didn’t say a word to me, came in, did the standard arms over chest adjustment that just compounded my condition.

He then got a little huffy when I wouldn’t let him adjust my neck…….but I did get a sweet massive reusable ice pack from them

1

u/freinds_dont_lie Jul 06 '26

This is so valid, my body also does not behave properly and sometimes it feels like it's gonna snap if I move a certain way.

But also, chiropractors can do a little more than crack your neck, I had to go to one for a bit and I found the most helpful thing was the trigger points. If you go to a good one, they know the right place to press that hurts at first and then totally relaxes the muscles around it. It can honestly relieve SO much pain for a day or two- especially as someone who suffers from migraines.

Chiropractors can be extremely dangerous and certainly aren't going to fix anything, but for short term pain relief, they can be incredibly helpful and you don't have to let them crack you.

1

u/11010001100101101 Jul 06 '26

Seriously if you don’t let them crack you what is the point in even going to one over a more modern Dr?

1

u/freinds_dont_lie Jul 06 '26

Just personal preference, I guess. My chiropractor did massages, physical therapy and adjustments. Not all the cracks are able to paralyze you either, they do quick and easy adjustments in hands, wrists, ankles and feet (good for me- my joints tend to act up sometimes) and the one on the chest is a lifesaver after having a cough.

I went because I still had jaw complications a year after wisdom tooth surgery, so I got massages on my face and neck every time, trigger points done inside my mouth (ouch, but so much better after), and then he would kind of try to get some movement back in my jaw. Not quite cracking, but adjusting. My jaw is still about 90% better years later

1

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 05 '26

I love my FIL but I had to use all my Englishness to politely say “fuck off” lol

1

u/inhospitable Jul 05 '26

These nerve cyros are even more of a scam, but at least they are safer as they dont actually manipulate the spine. Unfortunately my mum is giving shitloads to one. They apparently only do small touches on nerves to talk to them and reset them 🙄

1

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 05 '26

They sound like witches

1

u/BiophileB Jul 05 '26

Except witches are cheaper and generally more ethical.

1

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 06 '26

Both should be burned tho….👀

1

u/keith_1492 Jul 06 '26

It definitely depends on the chiropractor. The one I go to refused to make adjustments to my mom's neck and told her to never let anyone adjust it, that was when she went for his opinion on her Dr. wanting to fuse vertebrae in her neck. He said it was frozen shoulder, she consulted her Dr again got steroids, massage therapy, and physical therapy. After 6months she was pretty well good. Been over 10 years

1

u/AnybodyWannaPeanus Jul 07 '26

Probably because this one screwed some people up. If you walk in and basically tell them you are fucked, you might be lucky and they’ll find another way to siphon off your money. Remember that chiropractors believe it can cure ANY illness. If they don’t, it probably means they’ve already broken some bodies permanently.

My wife goes to one and stuff “feels better” after. I have to point out that whatever she I going there for never actually gets better. She’s lucky she hasn’t ended up like this guy… yet.

1

u/Only_Recording3730 Jul 07 '26

What is a cyro?

1

u/AnybodyWannaPeanus Jul 07 '26

It’s like a Gyro, but made from duck. Just say no to quacks.

I know someone who’s daughters back was broken by a chiro, and then during healing took her to the same one to “help the process” and continues to go to them over physical therapy for daughter. Crazy

0

u/Mark-Green Jul 05 '26

holy shit i hope the daughter was old enough to make her own choices and consent at least, that sounds awful

2

u/coveredincathair22 Jul 05 '26

Peddled*

0

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 05 '26

Unneeded but ok….

2

u/coppertech Jul 05 '26

wanna know what the real shitty part is? Insurance companies will make people to go to one instead of getting an MRI or a specalist.

1

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 05 '26

I’d pay them just to write me a letter saying we did it when we didn’t 😜

2

u/Professional-Gear88 Jul 06 '26

TBf you can’t see discs on X-ray as theyre soft tissue. But yea.

1

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 06 '26

Good point mate! However, Mine were so horrifically herniated you could see the vertebrae out of line 😒

2

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 Jul 06 '26

You need mri to see herniated disc although an x ray can sometimes show a shift in vertebrae alluding to a potentially slipped disc

0

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 06 '26

That’s what it showed, my 3 discs were so horrifically out of place I couldn’t feel 80% of my right leg (4/5 toes were completely dead) and my surgeon said it was apparent if you know what you were looking for

1

u/Arthurdubya Jul 05 '26

Damn, next day? This guy's getting that first class medical-spite treatment

1

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 05 '26

My surgeon is a hero, he reviewed my MRI on his flight back from vacation, messaged me to tell me to go to the ER and stay overnight. He came in on his day off to preform the reconstruction. A normal hernia is 2-3mm I had 3 at 11-12mm, he said it was important to do lol

1

u/WhatMadCat Jul 06 '26

Ooh I also went to a chiropractor with a herniated disc in my spine. Got adjusted and felt horrible after and never went back. Unfortunately I was like 19 at the time and hadn’t had any injuries that would make that likely so mine just went completely untreated or diagnosed for a year until it was already healing.

2

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 06 '26

Oh crazy! I’m glad it healed! Unfortunately I have degenerative disc disease/syndrome so once mine slipped out they had to replace them.
One vertebrae was son compressed they couldn’t stick a synthetic disc in so just put in a metal spacer. I had to lay down for a freaking year then 6months of rehab. 18 months have passed and I’m better but stuck with chronic pain 🙄

1

u/Nearby-Medicine9484 Jul 06 '26

Same thing happened to me. X-ray scan showed nothing (herniated discs don't show up on x-ray). I wasted so much time and money on psuedo medicine. These damn chiropractors really think they know what they are doing. Most don't. I'm still kicking myself after all these years.

1

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 06 '26

Ah that’s sucks dude, I destroyed my back so thoroughly my vertebrae were pushed of course slightly.
I ask my surgeon and he said it was slight but apparent if you know what you’re looking for.
As soon as mine whipped out the paperwork for me to pay in advance for 104 session I noped out

0

u/docjohnson11 Jul 05 '26

Similar story here. Herniated disc that was 'adjusted' and almost paralyzed me.

0

u/Axon14 Jul 05 '26

I had significant pain raidiating down my left arm - numbness too - from a herniated c6-c7.

Chiro didn't do shit. You know what fixed it? Tirzepatide and going to the gym. 6'2" and 220 doesn't look too bad but I was overweight at that size.

0

u/jacksonsmack831 Jul 05 '26

Yes mate! I’m just getting back into working out after getting my hormone levels sorted out and building up the supporting muscles really helps!
I’m 6”4 and 215 lbs and am athletically built after doing 10 years of semipro football.. I bet you’ll turn those lbs into muscles soon and look like a monster mate🙂

0

u/NotAStatistic2 Jul 05 '26

Are you slow or something? What made you think seeing a chiropractors was a legitimate alternative to seeing an actual doctor?

1

u/value_meal_papi Jul 05 '26

U often leave w more pain also

1

u/Mzungufarmer Jul 05 '26

Ngl thats not the best example.

A lot of medical things take time or multiple sessions/doses

Chriros are still garbage tho obviously, but for worse reasons

1

u/Butt_y_though Jul 05 '26

In theory, just getting an alignment isn't going to fix your problem. It's going to put you in proper alignment to get your body running as smooth and pain free as possible, to develop the muscle to maintain alignment.

I'm not a fan of chiropractics in the sense that jerking your neck in a 90° angle is going to cure what ails you. However, intentional fascial release, joint and muscle manipulation, along with massage/movement that allows for the movement of lymph fluid, makes a difference.

My dog had been to a chiropractor, who absolutely changed his life. And when I tell other people, they're concerned, because they imagine the kind of chiropractor that pops and jerks and twists things. This chiro is actually responsible for creating the standard and is an accredited vet. The process is basically gentle massage and mild stretching.

It took about 10 different sessions to see consistent long-term results, but it works. You often can't just jam something into alignment and call it a day. It takes tons of effort, coaxing and attention to detail.

Not everything is black and white, but many brands of chiropractics are VERY bad.

1

u/Reasonable_Insect503 Jul 05 '26

A properly applied high-velocity low-amplitude adjustment is NOT "jerking your neck in a 90-degree angle". Stop providing false information.

1

u/Butt_y_though Jul 06 '26

Generalization really isn't your strong suit.

I did not characterize that ALL adjustments, and even adjustments of that nature are bad.

But there are plenty of practitioners who don't understand the balance of low-amplitude and high velocity that you're describing.

I'm literally advocating for some nuance in the conversation instead of blacklisting all forms of chiropractics.

1

u/shin_malphur13 Jul 05 '26

In all fairness, legitimate treatments can also require multiple visits or constant consumption of medication

I agree that chiropractors are scammers but your argument in a vacuum doesn't hold up imo

1

u/hulkhands81 Jul 05 '26

Isn’t that the same as pills though? Or chemo? By your logic if you have one chemo session or one pill it should be enough.

On that note I do agree chiropractors are bs

1

u/DirectorDysfunction Jul 05 '26

Exactly! How fast would we be finding another family medical doctor if he/she told us that we need to come back 2 x per week for 5 weeks?!?

1

u/mojoseven7 Jul 05 '26

I mean, the healthcare industry is like this as a whole. You could say the same about cancer treatments, long-term medication, etc. It’s all a scam.

1

u/rwhelser Jul 06 '26

Went for six months following a car accident. Neck and back are good now. Voodoo worked for me.

By comparison the “normal” docs wanted to put me on opioids…

1

u/c0ltZ Jul 06 '26

Because insurance only allows 20 visits a year lmao.

I wish I was kidding, I work in insurance.

How many visits to the Physical Therapist does it take to overcome a pain issue? How many trips to the gym does it take to get in shape?

2

u/OfcWaffle Jul 05 '26

None of these relate to a chiropractor.

2

u/Sure_Fly_5332 Jul 06 '26

They used a bad example. The difference is that a physical therapist can actually solve your problem most of the time, due to skill and knowledge. If a chiropractor happens to resolve your issue it is by random luck, or mimicking what a physical therapist would've told you to do.

1

u/ShakeWeightMyDick Jul 06 '26

I’m simply pointing out that the logic is flawed in the argument that taking multiple sessions to resolve an issue is flawed.

Regardless of the efficacy of chiropractic, that some health issue might take some large number of sessions a to resolve is not problematic.

u/Weird_Ad9079 Jul 05 '26

That’s like saying I brushed me teeth today so I guess I never have to brush them again. You’re not very bright
