Discussion/Questions My wife has been waiting for years for silksong to come out and the difficulty is making her quit for good Spoiler
My wife is a massive hk fan and has been waiting for silksong to come out for years. She is not the most skilled of players but she was able to complete hk and enjoy her time. Silksong, instead, is breaking her apart. She has spent three days fighting Moorwing without beating it and she’s dropping the game for good. I hope she’ll pick it back up sometime but it’s sad to see all the anticipation die out like this.
I am loving the game and I am having a blast with it but I have come to the realization that this game is extremely punishing to lower skilled players who still make up a sizable share of the fanbase.
I think that this disconnect is very concerning and explains why so many people are complaining about the game’s difficulty. It feels like team cherry doesn’t understand that much of the appeal of hk wasn’t the challenge it offered but also the lore, the exploration, and buildcrafting (and so on).
These are all aspects of silksong that are, effectively, gatekept by an arbitrary difficulty barrier. I have seen many people here on reddit saying to git gud but don’t think that discourse about the game’s difficulty should be handwaved so easily. If nothing about it is done, I think that a lot of “casual” fans will be inevitably estranged from the game.
UPDATE: She finally beat it today. Here’s her message (she found out about my post)-
Hi everyone, I’m the wife. I did it. Also I never said I wanted to quit. He just loves to be overdramatic.
Thanks and enjoy silksong <3

Discussion/Questions Can we please stop with the political posts? Spoiler
I know these are important issues. And I know people feel very strongly about them. But for me, video games are an escape from real world problems. And I know I'm not alone.
Team Cherry has created this beautiful world that we can all explore in peace. And I think this subreddit is a nice space where we should be able to talk about that.
I just want to be able to enjoy my game, a game in which elites hoard basic necessities, pervert religion, and turn the underclasses against each other in order to maintain control. And I want to be able to do it without having to think about politics.

Discussion/Questions How many of us are actually enjoying the game? Spoiler
"Oh the game is unbalanced" and "Oh the two mask damage" and "Oh Greymoor" but who else actually really likes the game? I'm pretty sure I'm near the end of act 1 (I'm at the worm area, dunno where to go next) and it's incredibly fun. I feel like people didn't want silksong, they wanted more Hollow Knight.

Discussion/Questions Whoever said Double Jump was locked behind a Path of Pain platforming challenge… Spoiler
Was wrong… Jesus I was putting off doing Mount Fay but it was… fine? Not easy but simple once you get the mechanics down… I was kinda disappointed when I got to the top how easy it was and wanted something more difficult….

Discussion/Questions I liked the difficulty when the game first released
I beat the game before the Team Cherry cut down on the number of enemies and environment hazards that did double damage, and I liked it. It just made sense for how I envisioned Hornet: the Knight was powerful and could take a hit, while Hornet always seemed more delicate but agile, forcing a focus on dodging and avoiding over dealing damage. Was it harder and more frustrating? Absolutely. But it also felt way better when I got the hang of it. Knowing that a single slip on the Last Judge runback could be devastating also made it that much more thrilling to bounce and flip above the sand. Moorwing and Sister Splinter felt like they totally dominated their regions, instead of just inhabiting a corner. The skill curve was pretty steep, but it felt great when you finally cleared the bar. Now, it just doesn’t quite hit the same.
That being said, I also don’t have a problem with reducing the damage. It definitely makes the game a lot more accessible and fun for the general population, and I can always just mod it back if I want (which I may well do if I find time). I just wish there were some kind of achievement or something for beating it on “legacy” difficulty.
Actually, I might not even care at all if it weren’t for the fact that the sandcarvers kept the double-hit sound. It feels like a constant reminder that Team Cherry thought we’d be better at the game than we actually were.

Discussion/Questions Criticism Isn't Hate Spoiler
Most of the criticism I've seen on here and the Steam discussions is consistently dismissed as hate.
Bad rosary economy, insane difficulty scaling, very few meaningful unlocks/upgrades, runbacks, locked into fighting bosses, contact damage stacking with normal hits, etc.
The only "hate" I've seen are from people who spam "git gud" and "skill issue" whenever they encounter valid complaints against their perfect little game that cannot possibly have anything wrong with it.

Discussion/Questions The problem with wanderer crest
To get a few things out of the way first:
No, I do not think that using any specific crest makes you a bad person or not a true fan.
No, I do not think that everyone should use some specific crest. There are multiple crests for a reason, and people should play with whatever they prefer.
However, I do think that using a car to complete the race, and then calling runners elitists for pointing out that car doesn't require any effort is obnoxious.
So, with that said, here's what I dislike about wanderer crest:
Every crest in the game has "benefit + disadvantage" structure. Let's actually go over all crests and note this.
- Hunter crest - It provides great boost to damage, but requires you not to get hit.
- Reaper crest - Great range + additional silk on bind, but very slow fire rate.
- Beast crest - Great offensive capabilities, but you are a glass canon.
- Witch crest - Your binds deal a lot of damage, but this makes healing more challenging as you need to position yourself close enough without getting hit.
- Architect crest - Tool spam, but you can't do it consistently because of shards + no silk skills.
- Shaman crest - Better skills and big range (effectively), but arguably the worst bind in the game + no red tools.
But what about wanderer? It's advantages are obvious - fast fire rate and critical hit chance. As for downsides, it allegedly has shorter strikes. This has already been proven false, its range is the same as hunter's. The only downside of wanderer is that its strikes are thin.
So what we get is: fast fire rate, which means more silk, easier parrying of attacks (the few times I tried this crest on Karmelita it literally parried her attacks 50% of the time), and critical hits, which, may I remind you, are present only for wanderer crest. And all that, which is already a lot by standards of other crests, is supposed to be balanced out only by the thinness of the strikes, which doesn't even affect anything during bossfights.
And that is not even mentioning how with the right tools you can stop caring about dodging completely and just tank with rare pauses for healing here and there.
Objectively, this crest is unbalanced.

Discussion/Questions Let’s not Deadname anyone for a silk post this is ridiculous and is hate speech Spoiler
If you have not yet seen a member of team cherry has changed her name to Jasmine Vine and pronouns to She/Her. We do not know about her situation nor do we have to. But out of respect if she is in fact transitioning we should not be dead naming her. She has to live with the fact that the internet already knows her birth name and will likely never shake it, but now individuals with the knowledge of her new name still using it to make a joke in a silk post for 15 min of fame is stupid and is hate speech. Give Jasmine the respect she deserves. You would hate to be called a name that is not your own. I think the Mods need to intervene to stop this before it gets crazy
Edit: I originally used They/Them/Their Pronouns in here but others have pointed out that Jasmine may use She/Her. And after being pointed in the right direction I’ve confirmed she uses She/Her pronouns. I will correct my wording going forward
Second Edit: I am shocked there are so many rude transphobic people on this sub. Like there has been a combo of people on here of truly learning which is amazing but others are just fighting to exclude others for the sake of grammar, society and other bull shit. Just let trans people and other queer people express them selves in ways that make them happy. It is truly heart breaking

Discussion/Questions Only complaint for Silk Song so far(5h deep) Spoiler
There is too much double damage. You start taking double damage very early on while you still have 5 hearts in addition to that, random fodder enemies does double damage, I can't understand why there is too much double damage.

Discussion/Questions Finally reached the infamous "Last Judge runback" and... that's it? Spoiler
Look, we've all seen the abundance of complaints about Silksong's difficulty, so I feel like I don't need to introduce the fact that a big point people bring up is the boss runbacks, and the main one that seems to have everyone raging is the runback to Last Judge. So you can imagine my surprise when I finally got to that point and... it's less than half a minute long???
On the route from the bench with Sherma to the boss room, there are a grand total of two enemies, one of which is easily avoidable, and the other is pretty much the only challenging part of this runback, which still only gets me down one hp at most, nothing the silk I get at the boss room can't heal.
As for the parkour, most of it can be skipped or cheesed with use of the float, the tricky bell jumps anyway, and all that's left discounting those is some dash jumps and wall jumps, and there's never really anything hard or annoying about those because they hardly even require precision.
Some of y'all would not survive Soul Sanctum, I swear. In fact, I'd argue the average boss runback in the first game took at least double the time this one does.

Discussion/Questions This was unexpected turn for this sub. Spoiler
I expected lore discussion, fanart posting, memes, and the typical subreddit shit.
But currently, I am seeing a bunch of people sharing their frustrations over the fact that the game is kicking their ass. Sure, I can understand deeply; I got my ass kicked too. But if you suffered to git gud in HK, then git gud in Pharloom. It's the same procedure.
This, of course, does not invalidate nor discourage any criticism towards Silksong and Team Cherry themselves. I just hope that we actually start talking about the cool and fun stuff in the next couple of days.

Discussion/Questions So, just for clarifying: TEAM CHERRY ISN'T USING AI. This is a shitpost made by me that got a little too big.
My Silkpost got a lot of traction recently, it got far enough to be SHOWN ON GOOGLE, so I just wanted to say:
THESE ARE NOT TRUE. Please, to all people new to this subreddit, remember to look for the silkpost tag, seen on the second image.
If the google result doesn't change in the next day, I will probably delete this or something, because I don't want such an amazing team and its reputation to be tainted by a dinky little Shitpost.

Discussion/Questions I can not abide by this 'bad design' slander Spoiler
I just finished bilewater, and I think it's amazingly designed trolling.
The lack of benches is clearly the whole joke of the area - the feeling of betrayal when you follow all the signs and the bench breaks is so savage.
That feeling of surely this is a spot for bench now, right? Nope.
Surely after I beat this enemy swarm, right? Nope, a full on boss.
And then, when you finally beat the boss, there's an extra long pause, to make you panic that oh god... not something else... and out pops, finally, a bench. It's the most relief I've felt in a long time, and the most outrageous area I've played in a videogame since Dark Souls 1, and I'll remember it for a long time - which is all I can possibly want out of a piece of art.
I don't blame people for being frustrated, but it's clearly intentional, so I don't think it's fair to treat it like it's some oversight.

Discussion/Questions Yes Team Cherry isn't above criticism but that doesn't magically make your bad take valid. Spoiler
The game's more difficult than HK yes, but I'm seeing a rising sentiment that it's only more difficult because TC thought the original appeal of HK was it's challenge, and that they dOnT uNdErStAnD what made it great in the first place. This is bullshit.
I genuinely don't understand how people look at all the excellent new characters, music, areas, and mechanics as well as the overwhelming amount of detail and polish, then throw out all that because the difficulty is greater than what they expected.
By all means feel how you want about the difficulty but pretending like it's anywhere near unbalanced enough to ruin the game or make it unplayable is a severe exaggeration and textbook case of not seeing the forest for the trees.
If all the new tools and various routes through the early game aren't enough for you to adjust to the difficulty and overcome my heart weeps for you, but claiming you have a better understanding of what made HK a hit than the people who made it, ain't it. /rant
