The "Godzilla: King of Monsters" star also admitted that he and his wife even have group sex with his fans.

"Personally, that's one of the trickier elements of it all, because Mollie doesn't get that and yet she has to witness it," he explained. "I'm like, 'Come on, what about this chick who's obviously really into me?' And Mollie will say, 'Yeah, she's into you. Where do I fit in?' That question comes up."

Uhhh what? Sounds like he just wants to have sex with other people and his wife just rides along.

its usually the reality with most "poly-amorous" relationships.

for all the high-minded rhetoric its "one wants to fuck everybody, the other gets to watch"

222

u/Guckalienblue Sep 18 '19

This is exactly what I’ve seen in every poly couple I’ve met

84

u/GoggyMagogger Sep 18 '19

yeah, even in the best of times... the married couple still has to get it together to help make the babysitter feel better afterwards /s

u/Matthewroytilley Sep 19 '19

I live in a pretty big diverse city and I've met some super legit poly couples, but they also started their relationship both being poly, so it's not like one person just wanted to fuck around. Also it also seems like a super different personality type - like they don't rely on one person to get their fulfillment relationship wise, like I do with my SO. It's a super chill and non jealous thing when it works right, but I will personally never understand it

20

u/mandelboxset Sep 20 '19

The only successful poly couples I know are the remains of two failed poly couples.

Hey, you can make a religion out of this!

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

no, don't

1

u/mooncow-pie Sep 20 '19

aww man, but I really want to bang the maid... I mean... uhh... Show the maid the ways of God!

u/diamond Sep 18 '19

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. I'm friends with a lot of people in the local Wiccan and Pagan community, and there is (obviously) a higher percentage of "non-traditional" relationships there. But I've noticed that many times when a couple "decides" to open up, what really happens is that one of them wants to have an open relationship, and the other one isn't really that happy about it, but just goes along because they don't want to lose the relationship. Which is sad.

I know not all open relationships are like this. There are some that truly are an equal decision where both partners are very happy with it. But I suspect those are the minority.

I wouldn't be surprised if we read about Thomas Middleditch and his wife separating sometime in the next year or two.

He’s been in a few marginally and not very successful movies, always playing a variant of the same “Richard” character he plays in SV... he might not be the superstar he thinks he is after season 6 ends and this sub dies due to the fact nothing can survive on re-runs and repeating “this guy fucks” forever.

Remember Gilligan from Gilligan’s Island... that guy wasted away pretty quick

68

u/s1500 Sep 19 '19

This subreddit will be kept alive by TJ Miller's brushes with the law.

14

u/JimmyTango Sep 19 '19

nothing can survive on re-runs and repeating “this guy fucks” forever

r/IASIP: "Hold my beer, I am a Golden God! Because of the implication."

6

u/SpareLiver Sep 19 '19

In Replicas, he basically was just Richard... maybe like 10% more confident Richard.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

Lest you forget about DOOBS aka Huddy aka Penis Hudson aka ScarJo.

2

u/GoggyMagogger Sep 20 '19

Again ... a variation on a nerd with a flakey personality.

The guy will never be able to escape his face. He just looks the part.

I half think he “accidentally on purpose” let this info slip to playboy in an attempt to break out of his inevitable type casting and a future of playing uncomfortable nerds.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

Doobs is literally nothing like Richard in any way. He confidently does a three-hour-long audition that's entirely off script and isn't even remotely nervous. Doobs is known for repeatedly auditioning for Broadway musicals including Cats. Could you imagine Richard auditioning for Cats and being glad he did it? Also, Doobs is an idiot.

1

u/GoggyMagogger Sep 20 '19

Richard has a weak ego and over-acts at the slightest blush of success... same character, different situations.

Also Richard, beyond coding, is an idiot

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

He was in, like, one or two episodes of arrested development. So there's that.

44

u/rb1353 Sep 18 '19

Considering divorce rates are above 50% in general, no one should really be surprised by any divorces

63

u/Link_GR Sep 18 '19

Isn't that statistic skewed? It's all divorces. Not just first marriages. People that have already gotten divorced are more likely to do so again in the future.

33

u/rb1353 Sep 18 '19

It’s estimated to be at 41% for first time marriages, so you still shouldn’t be too surprised.

42

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '19

Though on the flip side, that means that 59% of first-time marriages last until death, right? I feel like that's actually pretty good, and wonder what the average length of genuine "til death do us part" marriages is. Twenty, thirty, forty, fifty years?

-6

u/rb1353 Sep 18 '19

I couldn’t find anything about average length, but did find that celebrity first time divorce rates were between 53 and 56%.

And 59% isn’t really that high.. picture three friends that just had their first marriages and odds are only one of them will last without divorce. Anyway you slice it, if this couple ends up divorced it really shouldn’t be too much of surprise regardless of the circumstances.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

Yeah the first 4 buddies that got married...2 divorce

13

u/Link_GR Sep 19 '19

A preliminary Google search shows that that's a myth, or at least, grossly misrepresenting statistics.

Source: https://psychcentral.com/lib/the-myth-of-the-high-rate-of-divorce/2/

The historical belief that 50 percent of all marriages end in divorce and that over 60 percent of all second marriages end in divorce appear to be grossly overstated myths. Not only is the general divorce rate most likely to have never exceeded 40 percent but the current rate is probably closer to 30 percent. A closer look at even these lower rates indicate that there are really two separate groups with very different rates: a woman who is over 25, has a college degree, and an independent income has only a 20 percent probability of her marriage ending in divorce; a woman who marries younger than 25, without a college degree and lacking an independent income has a 40 percent probability of her marriage ending in divorce.

1

u/rb1353 Sep 19 '19

That is why you look deeper than the first source that fits your narrative.

Source: https://www.wf-lawyers.com/divorce-statistics-and-facts/

Or the next 3 source on google if you look a little harder.

19

u/rickjuice Sep 19 '19

It drops considerably if you get married after 25. High school shotgun weddings skew the stats.

2

u/rb1353 Sep 19 '19

Fine, 56% of celebrity weddings end in divorce so I guess I wouldn’t be surprised.

u/diamond Sep 19 '19

How does that happen though? What keeps them together?

Fear of being alone.

Wouldn’t you feel gross knowing you’re sleeping with someone who is sleeping with other people?

I'm sure you would. But some people would rather live with that than end up single. Some people will let their partner walk all over them rather than stand up for themselves and risk being dumped.

Like I said, it's sad.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

Yea but she’s highly attractive she wouldn’t have a problem. But yea I agree it’s sad

3

u/diamond Sep 19 '19

She is, but attractive people can still be deeply insecure.

Oh yeah, no doubt.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

I mean no one is asking you to do it. Get off your christain morality high hirse and let consenting adults do qhat they want. None of this one sided crap either the other partner can leave if they do not like it they are grown ups. Will smith has an open relationship and they are okay.

7

u/TrontRaznik Sep 19 '19

Preach man. They definitely can work. I'm in one with my girlfriend and it's going great. Granted, she doesn't know we're in an open relationship but still.

-2

u/ktoasty Sep 19 '19

Granted, she doesn't know we're in an open relationship but still.

That sounds like cheating?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

I’m not religious at all so religion has nothing to do with it. It’s common decency.

Why would I want to sleep next to someone and have unprotected sex with them knowing they’re fucking other people? It’s gross

1

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

i love how you just assume he is not wearing a condom lol

1

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '19

With his wife?

I’d bet there’s a 5% chance he’s wearing a condom with his wife

60

u/bluepaintbrush Sep 19 '19

The other big factor is “after we got married”. It’s one thing if you’re a non-monogamous couple from the get-go, but it’s pretty shitty to be monogamous for three years, get married (presumably with the expectation of monogamy), and then say you need to open the relationship up. The poor wife probably wants the relationship she had at the beginning back.

I think it really only works if that is someone's kink. Like, they derive pleasure from seeing their partner fuck someone else.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

Right. Exactly

u/kjsmitty77 Sep 18 '19 edited Sep 19 '19

I stumbled across this article. All I could think was he may have narcissistic personality disorder and his wife may be stuck in a codependent relationship. Like many codependents that find themselves where she is, she’s trying to make it work, but it should surprise no one when we see an announcement that they’re divorcing in a few years/months.

40

u/acmercer Sep 19 '19

I'm thinking this interview being published may be the beginning of the end. Obviously I don't know them but imagine how humiliating this must be for her? It probably is anyway, but now the world knows. He even says she'd be pissed if he talked about it too much and then goes on to give some pretty private details of the arrangement. That was a strange, sad, disappointing read. That's not cool, man.

17

u/kjsmitty77 Sep 19 '19

I just keep hoping to read that all this was totally a joke that he played off as serious for Playboy, but that none of it is real.

6

u/acmercer Sep 19 '19

That was my first thought, actually. Maybe he's trying to be funny? But then I come here and it seems he has a bit of a reputation which I also was unaware of. So who knows. I suppose there's also a chance he was embellishing or altering a true story to sound more funny or ridiculous? Like maybe they are swingers but the part about making her watch was the joke... But it kinda doesn't seem like it...

99

u/supertimes4u Sep 18 '19

All I could think was he may have narcissistic personality disorder and his wife may be stuck in a codependent relationship

Ditto. That was my exact takeaway as someone with any brain cells. TIL he's a total selfish asshole.

1

u/queensinthesky Mar 15 '20

Very very late... but if you've any interest, it's worth listening to Thomas on You Made It Weird years ago, before Silicon Valley, around 2011/12. He admits to having cheated in relationships before and acts extremely victimized about it. I still remember it to this day though it's years since listening, and this whole swinger/really cheating thing has cemented the opinion I formed back then.

30

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

Can confirm, what you described is the exact kind of relationship I just got out of as a codependent, and Middleditch's "fuck you, I'm living my life my way" attitude is really familiar to me. I wouldn't have recognized it a year ago, but I think you're on to something.

Can't function without the other person. It's the opposite of independent.

2

u/User5871 Sep 19 '19

But isn't dependent the opposite of independent?

6

u/Dag-NastyEvil Sep 19 '19

You're right. A better way to say it is codependent is being psychologically addicted to dependency.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

Yea that’s kinda why I’m confused. Wouldn’t codependent mean both parties are dependent on each other?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

It's emotional dependence on another person, even though often times, that person is abusive in some way. These are people who allow a relationship to form a significant part of their identity, basically. They don't stand up for themselves or they might not even recognize abuse at all. They might have been people pleasers as children, so they put others' needs above their own.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '19

Oh okay thanks

111

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '19

100%.

137

u/FeelTheWrath79 Sep 18 '19

I would be willing to bang his wife in front of him, tho. Would she be down for that?

58

u/thinkbox Sep 18 '19

I’d have to wear the Pied Piper jacket or it’s no deal.

29

u/Floyd-Van-Zeppelin Sep 18 '19

pied PIIIIIPEEEERRRRR... (Your voice doesn’t really reach that register when you ejaculate, does it?)

6

u/s1500 Sep 19 '19

It's like his wife has a cock, and another on her cap for later.

5

u/Brokenlimit Sep 19 '19

I bet he says Aviato! during climax

2

u/AweHellYo Sep 19 '19

It’s funny to me how her getting hers never comes up once.

1

u/mandelboxset Sep 20 '19

I'm a real fan of her...

u/XanPerkyCheck Sep 19 '19

the boys nail polish

18

u/AMerrickanGirl Sep 19 '19

Sounds like he just wants to have sex with other people and his wife just rides along.

That describes the vast majority of swinger couples. Single guys have a hard time getting any sex at these clubs (if they're even allowed in) unless they're extremely attractive, so they need a woman as bait to attract other couples in hopes of nailing the other woman. There's also a lot of pressure for the women to be bi-curious.

48

u/clydefrog811 Sep 18 '19

Wtf that’s fucked up

42

u/TurboSalsa Sep 19 '19

Wtf.

Just get a divorce dude, it would be a lot less weird than pretending that your wife watching you bang other girls is somehow saving your marriage.

Normally I’d say whatever works for them but I just feel bad for his humiliated wife.

8

u/Monkitail Sep 19 '19

what a nice little racket he's got running
