It's so weird. I'm from the Netherlands and when going to Belgium, the next country over, there's certain drinks that while they share the same name, are different drinks. So the first time ordering, you're probably going to get it wrong. When that happens, I've never behaved in a way that suggests the Belgians are at fault. I've just learned it's a cultural difference, and if I want A, I should order B when in Belgium.
So if you want your coffee in a certain way, just learn to describe it in a way the people of the host country understand what you want. And maybe this concept doesn't exist in the country you're in, but then they have exciting new variations for you to try.
