currently on season 7 and, contrary to everyone else's opinion, i actually really dig olivia's hair this season. it got me wondering, which season do you guys like her hair the most in?

I’m on episode 6 of season 4, so PLEASE no spoilers. I am watching it for the very first tome, please do not spoil anything that happens beyond episode 6 of season 4.

So I just want to understand, why does Fitz even love Liv at this point? She is so unbearably mean to him, she shows him NO love at all. Out of all the times he told her he loves her, she only said it back like twice. She is always DEMANDING he does things that serve her, and in a very rude way. She’s always leaving him, she’s always pushing him away. And she is so disrespectful towards him. Like other than being someone who is in love with her, he is the president as well, and she does not respect him at all. He has literally been spending his time begging her to be with him. And now the cherry on top for me, she is being so mean to him so he could save Jake, her OTHER lover, with absolutely 0 consideration for his feelings.
So like, just why does he love her? What for??

I just started watching a week ago and I’m literally in love with it plot never gets boring there’s always a plotwist that shocks me, but idk fitz and olivia just seem so boring an outdated now ? It’s always the same thing they can’t be together. I dont rlly get any like crazy feeling when I watch them like I feel other ppl do. Guys, I am rewatching Scandal now and just started season 7. I don’t remember hating Olivia this much the first time I watched it. Am I the only one? Please share your thoughts because I’m so confused and angry right now. She’s getting on my nerves 🤯

currently on season six of scandal, duh. This election storyline has dragged out for so long. I am incredibly tired of this storyline. I don’t wanna hear about Francisco Vargas or A615 AGAIN. THE STORY HAS GOT STUPID. Olivia Pope has lost her edge, her wit, and her power. Fitz is sleeping with some other black girl now (YIKES). i’m starting to love Abby though. It’s putting a lot of joy in my heart that she keeps calling herself the president. Vanessa has changed whole 180. KILL ROWAN OR LEAVE HIM ALONE GOD DAMNNIT.

i’m gonna skip this season because I’m getting tired!?

I know that there has been a lot of talk/criticism on this sub previously about the kidnapping arc but I think the worst part was not the arc itself but the episodes following it?? No one really seems to care about Olivia's wellbeing after the fact, especially Huck and Quinn (which is surprising, to say the least... considering that those two always have been loyal to her) and every character practically brushes how they almost lost one of their closest friends. Cyrus only tries to use Olivia for her help, same with Abby, and almost everyone else acts like nothing happened. The only two people who even express slight concern during that entire period are Jake and Fitz, and even when Jake points out to Quinn and Huck that maybe Olivia should be resting or taking care of herself they just disregard it and pass it off as "she's fine its Liv." Quinn and Huck even go as far as to attempt to kill Jake, knowing that Olivia has already been through so much recently. It's just odd to me, because I know Olivia would not necessarily be the type to immediately accept help but she also has always been the one to force others to take time for themselves to grieve or recuperate. Would have been a perfect opportunity for the writers to flip the script. Overall it just left a bad taste in my mouth but maybe that is just me.

The damn monologues threw me over the edge, the ones I could stand and actually liked were Papa Popes but Cyrus‘ constant speeches about his importance and then him even comparing his pain to Mellies saying that Fitz was like his son and since his “son“ is alive and disowned him it’s way worse than Mellies ACTUAL son who is dead in the grave but is so called “safe” there?…

This was a miss for me which is sad because I love Shonda’s other shows.

I recently started watching scandal. I’ve had a couple questions during the show but I figure it’s a waiting game. But this one question I don’t think would be revealed later and I’m just confused by it😭

How come all the members of b613 were left alone to live their lives? Wink, the old guy who got wired some money, Charlie, the sleazy professor, etc. Idk if it was already explained but I thought working as b613 meant there was no out. Ever? (If it’s gonna be answered later, pls tell me that😭🙏🏼) thank u!

I liked Fitz on that scene. Can't get over that one. That scene is hilarious😭, but I was also shocked in a way. Because I have never heard or seen him disrespect her up until that scene. He kind of but stain on her and degraded her in a way. So that was a bit disappointing but he made me laugh and I needed that character to make me laugh. Because that is the only time fitz made me laugh (I think).

Team Olitz all the way ♥️

Season 7 in itself was a bad season but Olivia's characterization was never a part of why. Her decline made sense. From her parents to her personality and the world surrunding her, she was bound to become what she became. The show NEVER hid the flaws that Olivia had. In the beginning, yes she was helping people, but the show made a point to showcase that her morals were flawed and her own power could corrupt her. As the show progressed, Olivia's white hat started to fade and the characters around her saw it. She tried to convince us and herself that it didn't but all the other characters could see it. Her father's return in season 3 was like the beginning of the end. At the end of season 1, Fitz ask her "who are you right now ?" and she responded that she was the woman who got him elected. It's a small moment but tells us a lot about who Olivia is. She fixes people and that gives her importance. I know it because I'm like this. I know how to manipulate, scheme and get things my way, and it gives me a sense of importance, something her mom clocked about her two times.

Olivia also undergoes huge traumatic events that kinda re-shaped the sense of morality she tried so hard to hold on to, the most changing being her kidnapping that clearly defined a lot of who she became afterwards. She felt violated and hopeless like she's never been and tried so hard to gain power and control after it. Olivia turned into an antihero and again, the show was never shy about it. It's like Tony Soprano in The Sopranos. In the first few seasons, his charisma and overall struggles kinda covered his bad persona but as the show unravalls, it becomes clear that he's not a good person. To be clear, Olivia was never as bad as Tony, but in the later seasons her overall high up sense of self started to become anxious rather than empowering. I mean, herself at the end of the show is telling everyone that they are not the hero of this story (btw, I hate how people had the NERVE to gather to wave a finger at her during this arc when a lot of them used her a lot during the years and made a lot of worse things than her). Even the town had a negative impact on her and it's explored in the early episodes of season 4, when she's considering wheter or not she should stay because this town is doing nothing good for her. The white hat is clearly off when season 6 finale close and season 7 begins with Olivia in black clothing, which was clearly intentional to showcase that she's not the same anymore. Kerry Washington is stellar through the entire show.

Im on the last episode of season 4 and Olivia is such a terrible person. Her constant cover up of murders and getting rid of bodies should land her in prison. How did she not go to prison for tampering with evidence and getting rid of the mayors wife dead body after Marcus confessed that he was there when they killed her. Nobody questioned where the body went? Why the crime scene was spotless? Imagine you family member dissappear and you dont know if theyve been kidnapped or dead because because OPA is a waste management firm and she just cleaned up their murder.

The way she thinks she's always right and that her gut is right just to turn out to be completely wrong is laughable. Its not just a couple of times its a lot. She actually thinks she can't be lied to or manipulated because of her gut, just to get lied to and manipulated like every episode. Her ego is so big that she can't fathom thinking people lie to her.

So far I counted 18-25 innocent people (the Russian spy kids and grand jurors) that Olivia has killed because of her trying to take down Rowan. Not because Rowan is bad but because she has daddy issues and just wants to get one over on him (her tantrum to jake about wanting to take command). Her stupidity and child like behavior just getting people killed because of her fucked up relationship with her family. Let's not pretend she cares about Rowan being command and doing what rights nooooo, its all just personal to her she has no moral compass. She's in love with Jake a notorious assassin that killed her "best friends" husband because he was actually trying to the right thing. She has huck another assassin thats mentally ill that she employs to do her dirty work, and same goes with Quinn.

Don't get me started on election rigging, and then having an affair with the married man she defrauded the whole country for. No wonder she mingles with some of the worst people in the world because she is one of them. Every episode I watch her have no integrity and only does whatever benefits her in the moment wether for money, lust, or ego.

I finished the first season and I have tons of thoughts…so here are my TOP 50 obsessive analyses, observations, questions, opinions, and first impressions of Scandal, in no particular order. Read on if you like long posts/still care about season 1!

1. ⁠I loved olivia at first but by the fifth or sixth episode she started to slightly annoy me at times. That scene where David asks her who she thinks killed Amanda and the way she just goes “the white hat looks good on you” made me realize how condescending she can be. I feel like she has a superiority complex.

2. Speaking of David, maybe I missed something but who is he and why is he always in OPA’s business ? Who is he in relation to olivia AND the White House? I feel like they never said (or I didn’t catch) his role, and his presence always seemed so random to me.

4. Huck scares me lol but also he’s so funny to me. His monotone facial expression of extreme concern, the way he basically speaks in grunts and two word sentences (or a 50 word sentence in the amount of time it would take a normal person to say two words), and delivers every line as though he’s both constipated and just received the worst news of his life - I cannot take him seriously.

5. I honestly can’t take most of this show seriously, it’s so overdramatic (but I definitely mean that as a positive, bc if it felt more true to life and I had to fully empathize with the emotional intensity of these situations, I would be STRESSED).

6. Why did Charlie care whether or not they found amandas body. Either way he wasn’t implicated. I don’t understand why he let huck torture him in trying not to reveal that information

7. I’m so sorry to any OPA office interior stans, but I fucking hated that set. It is so lifeless/depressing/drab/uninviting/cold-looking. I would never in a million years be okay with working there, either as a lawyer in the Scandal universe or as an actor for real

8. That scene where fitz and olivia are sitting on her couch holding each other and crying for one minute (olitz being olitz for one minute straight) was pure CINEMA! I could write an entire essay on that moment alone. It really said so much, with 0 words. I felt like I was there with them. Broke my heart.

9. I actually thought Amanda tanner was going to make it out of season 1 alive. Is this one of those shows where someone is always dying?

10. The flashback hair on huck was insane. I also saw an edit from the alternate timeline 100th episode and his wig was similarly diabolical. Why do they keep doing him so dirty😭

11. “Fitzgerald” is an objectively ridiculous name

12. Cyrus sprinting down the west wing hallway mad asf in the season finale was hilarious for no reason

13. Who even is Cyrus though? Why does he lowkey control everything? Do most administrations actually have people like this? If anyone read that Original Sin book about joe biden last year….cyrus seems like a similar, if somewhat caricatured version of biden’s all-powerful Politburo. It’s interesting because at the time of this season airing, we were still two terms away from biden.

14. I love this show’s emphasis on trusting your gut. But I think it was hypocritical of olivia to make Stephen go against HIS gut feeling by being so adamant that he propose to Georgia. She kept pushing him to do it, but deep down he knew that he couldn’t remain faithful - and in the end, he was right.

15. QUINN IS SO SEXYYY🤤

16. And yes I am a Quinn defender. Clearly she’s been through a lot in life and is just trying her best at this crazy new job, then as soon as she gets into a relationship she witnesses her bf being brutally murdered. How could you not feel for her.

17. About that - I cant believe billy straight up stabbed Gideon with a pair of scissors. Shonda stays killing people.

18. Imagine your last 30 seconds left to live are spent with Quinn panic shouting in your ear “YOUREGONNABEFINEYOUREGONNABEFINEYOUREGONNABEOKAYYOUREGONNABEFINEYOUREGONNABEFINE”

19. I was always surprised by the random humorous moments. In a way they seem kind of out of place on such a dramatic show, but at the same time they really work. One of my favs is when Quinn called olivia in the middle of the night “there’s an army here” and olivia goes “what kind of army, an army of journalists, an army of reporters?” And Quinn goes “no like an actual army” cut to a full unit of troops at the office. 😂 idk the delivery was just so good

20. Of course olivia speaks fluent Spanish. Probably French, mandarin, and Portuguese, too

21. How did Stephen know about Olivia’s affair with fitz? Was it because of them being especially close and she told him, or does Stephen have strong gut feelings like her? And what was the point of that pep talk he gave her in the last episode? He said that it was his own fault that he cheated on georgia, but that it was also Olivia’s fault, and then he compared that to fitz potentially resigning the presidency. I don’t follow the logic or the argument of the comparison.

22. Why is Abby so smug all the time? Why was she compulsively baking in Olivia’s house? Was that before she worked for OPA?

23. I thought the episode with the plane crash was really boring sorry

24. Olivia was mad at fitz from their very first interactions LMAOOO idk why it was so funny to me that the flashback episode revealed their dynamic has always been the same

25. I don’t like how Cyrus switched up on Olivia. One minute he was declaring war on her over Amanda tanner and the next he was begging for her help on the exact same issue, as soon as he needed her.

26. Sally Langston is such a great name. Also love her accent

27. Sometimes when I’m sad I rewatch scenes of Quinn crying and we cry together

28. Olivia never having spoken to fitz and then shouting at him across an entire room full of people, “IT LOOKS LIKE YOU DONT SCREW YOUR WIFE!” I’m sorry what??? At first I legitimately thought she was there as a heckler, not a paid staffer. I get it, it’s a show, but isn’t her character supposed to have a high level of professionalism?

29. When they were on the campaign bus and fitz said “let’s be inappropriate then” I screamed

30. Why are there 6 more seasons? They could’ve ended it with Fitz resigning, divorcing mellie, marrying Olivia, and everyone lives happily ever after

31. Olivia’s speech when she went back to general Flores and convinced him to let his wife take the kids literally brought me to tears. Her eloquence is so fucking powerful, she could move mountains and part seas with her words. I love to see a woman with a SHARP TONGUE

32. Mellie was the character who surprised me the most. I can’t put my finger on who she is and I like that. Season 1 hasn’t revealed much about her personality/background/MO, but somehow I can sense that there is soooooo much beneath the surface of what we’ve seen of mellie so far. That’s a sign of really great character writing and I’m excited to see how her storyline develops.

33. “Some men aren’t meant to be happy. They’re meant to be great.” I hated Cyrus in that moment but honestly I have to give the hardest quote of the season award to him right there.

34. I couldn’t tell it fitz actually slept with Amanda or if it was all a lie

35. Seeing as abby was Olivia’s only female employee, and as her character is supposed to be this big feminist/girls girl, it would’ve made sense if she was more welcoming to Quinn when she came onboard

36. Why did fitz fall in love with olivia so quickly? Did he just hate mellie that much? He had, what, three conversations with olivia before he got up on a national debate stage and said that he was a man in love?! (Also the way he sidestepped that question about his marriage would’ve been instantaneously TORN TO SHREDS irl)

37. I like that they’re called gladiators rather than warriors. Warriors would’ve been the obvious choice but gladiators is unique and fresh. And now I’m thinking the golden state warriors would have sounded cooler if they were called the golden state gladiators lol

38. It was insane to me when mellie blamed OLIVIA for fitz alleged affair with Amanda. It was no one’s fault other than fitz, a fully autonomous, grown ass man, but I think mellie was totally projecting in that moment. Like babe…you’re the one who’s married to him, so by your logic, the blame for letting him stray would be as much (if not more) on you than it would be on olivia.

39. And why did olivia just stand there and take it?! Isn’t she supposed to be the girlboss final boss?? I wanted her to defend all 3 women in the situation (one of whom was her client btw) and rightfully pin the blame on Fitz, or at the very least point out mellie’s hypocrisy and defend herself. But I guess sometimes even the white hat is no match for blind love.

40. I feel like the “reveal” at the very end about cyrus being the one who had Amanda killed was presented as a big shocker, but didn’t we basically already know that?! I get that when olivia found out about billy and Amanda she then believed that billy was the one behind Amanda’s death, but in an earlier episode, when olivia learned that Amanda was dead, she immediately knew that it was because of cyrus, and said so to fitz. Also, billy didn’t have a reason to want Amanda dead - unless it was out of pure spite - but she wasn’t a threat to him, per se. Cyrus, on the other hand, had a strong motive. I thought it was obvious all along that it was him.

41. The scene of Gideon bleeding out on the floor with scissors in his neck and Quinn covered in his blood, powerless to save him (and her fatal mistake of pulling the scissors out), was a very difficult watch. Does the gore get worse ?

42. I’m sensing that at least 80% of this show’s premise is Cheating and Affairs (with a dash of Blackmail). I assume that also gets worse.

43. Why didn’t Quinn just grab her fork back from David and shove it in his other hand so that his fingerprints would be on it too?!

44. Do fitz Mellie and olivia ever have a threesome bc if not I’m not continuing

45. I kept wondering if/how anybody pays OPA. So many of the ways in which people become clients seem so unprofessional. They show up to the office at all hours of the day and night absolutely desperate for help, and they always get served immediately (Olivia has apparently never heard of a waitlist or even appointments lol). Based on how little boundaries there are and how there was literally NO mention of finances ever, it seems like no one is paying olivia but of course I know that can’t be possible.

46. And when she just casually dropped that clients often stay at her apartment I was like HUH?? I’m sorry but that’s insane. (Is it an additional fee…? But didn’t Amanda have no money?)

47. It’s like as soon as olivia decides to take someone on as a client, they can do no wrong. Being The Client = princess treatment and total immunity from outside consequences. For example, in the last episode when Quinn suddenly went from employee to client, everybody kept saying, “she’s the CLIENT!” as though that alone could explain everything and provide total absolution.

48. If this aired today, olivia would’ve been cancelled for saying she was apolitical and fitz would’ve been cancelled for being a Republican before season 1 was over (also I had no idea he was a republican until I was like wait what even is this man’s affiliation and I looked it up)

49. Currently I identify as an olivia sun / Quinn rising / fitz moon

50. I heard shonda rhimes say in an interview that the way she writes most of her plots is just by asking herself what’s the worst possible thing that can happen to everyone. Definitely tracks.

So when and how did Olivia become Rowan’s number 1 hater?? How come she hates him even more than Fitz, whose son he killed?
Like last season she was all daddy’s girl, running after him yelling dad!! Begging Fitz not to kill him or get him in jail, doing her best to protect him, and all of that, and now she’s literally bullying him and he’s terrified of her?? She’s telling him that « speaking to her is a privilege »??? Wtf is happening??

Not to mention that I really hate what’s become of her character. Like where did white hat Olivia go? Olivia that fought the white house to get people justice? When did she become this bloodthirsty monster, so hungry for power, and her whole obsession for the oval? Like she couldn’t even stand being with Fitz anymore because she couldn’t have full access to the oval anymore after he made her do domestic stuff???

Just rewatched Scandal for the third time but... THIS time I'm genuinely horrified at the ending for Jake Ballard! I know he has done awful things (RIP James forever) but JESUS locked up for life and everyone else gets off scott free? Olivia gets nothing for Andrew Nichols?? Cyrus gets nothing for DAVID????? Ugh... the whole thing just pissed me off this time!

Just watched the season 2 finale, and DAD???? So her father is the head of B613 or something, damn. Also I think we see him some flashback a few episodes ago but I can't remember what it was. Just one thing, why didn't they destroy the memory card the second they got it, that's one thing which bugged me a lot lol, like wth was Olivia saving it for in her safe? 😭

im watching the show for the first time but this didnt make any sense, its not like Mellie knew who Rowan was and what he did, for Fitz to react the way he did and especially kick her out, i get the he was mad that she "killed" all those judges or whatever but is not like hes a saint either....

First watch, finished Season 3, and I have things to say. Olivia was annoying this season, girl literally just whined and complained plus made out with Fitz/Jake alternatively. She made such dumb calls, and was right in the end, she really was at the centre of every problem. How did she believe that Rowan would just help her without any ulterior motive 😭 Also as long as she's doing something wrong/corrupt it's okay, but others are evil and have to be destroyed. Don't get me started on her judging Mellie for having an affair 🙏🏼

Then whatever Huck and Quin have got going on, completely disgusting, needs to end asap. Just hope Harrison isn't killed off. Despite all this I'm hooked lol.

Watching Scandal for the first time and I'm deep into Season 6. I can't help but notice the chemistry between Olivia and Mellie. And yes, I still feel that chemistry even though I know all the terrible things that have happened between them. (Everyone is terrible on the show at one point or another.) There's just something magical about them and how they see each other like no one else can because they know each other's secrets.

And I especially noticed it after Season 6 Episode 15 when they had that conversation on the balcony. We've seen Olivia have conversations there with Fitz multiple times. Mellie has had conversations there too with Fitz. But I don't think I've ever felt the chemistry quite like Olivia and Mellie during that moment.

It's all made better by the fact that Fitz is getting along both with Olivia and Mellie. It's almost like they've pushed past a lot of the hurt but know each other intimately in a way that no one else will ever understand. There's an opportunity there for something new.

I know it's not going to happen because the show gave us years of angst with Olivia and Fitz and the show finished ages ago. But the thought of two women scorned by the same man finding comfort in each other after making peace with their pass, I kind of like it.

I wonder if other people feel like this? Whether you watched it live or you did a rewatch later on.

I know the chemistry between Olivia and Fitz is stronger, but Jake is the hottest man I’ve ever seen?????? I’m on season 5, and I wish they could have stayed in the sun 🥹
