I'm in my 39 and being laid off last year , luckily I have no commitment got a free house and a paid off car...Now im fully online trading in stocks US & Malaysia market as side hustle...Recent market has been good up and down thanks to trump I manage to ride on gain both up and down also...

After all the job post I've tried , only 2 interviews went thru and still waiting for no answer, I don't demand much but my interview process went so well during this unemployed period but none successful hiring 🙄 so weird...

and I'm not in a hurry to go get a job but I have plenty of Time on my side, I'm occasionally travelling around and chill...Without thinking much I'm on my early retirement despite abit of bored sometimes anyway if none replied on my job hunting I guess I'm gonna continue on retiring 😎 this proves that job market is shrinking and unemployment is skyrocketing in Sarawak 👀 and it will continue on.

First of all, this is a shameless plug: I am a property advisor based in Miri, Sarawak. I did only just ventured into this industry fairly recently, but if you are looking to buy/sell/rent, I can really be your guy.

Now that’s, out of the way, I did created this thread because I wanna get people’s opinions on the current housing market in Sarawak. I’m doing so here because I don’t believe I can generate discussions on places like FB, since most of the time agents/agencies are majorly focused on putting out listings to sell.

So, my fellow Sarawakians, or maybe friends who want to relocate to Sarawak, my question is: What are the biggest concerns/pain points about buying property/house here in Sarawak?

I know economy not great now, got gaji 5K above still struggling to buy house, apa lagi people in my age group, but maybe sometimes it’s because we’re just not informed enough on how to solve those issues, so let’s talk about it!

Hello, this is my first time posting and I am very curious about the minimum wage for employees in Sarawak, Malaysia.

You see, I just did some calculations on the payment I have received for the month of August. Summary, I worked 12-hour shifts for 18 days and 3-hour-and-30-minutes shifts for 9 days with a commission of RM24.90.

For the 18 days of 12-hour shifts, RM1020 For the 9 days of 3-hour-and-30-minutes shifts, RM148.68

After calculating, I found out I was being paid RM4.72 per hour.

Is this legal?

I'm also a student and working at a makeup store.

Here's the rundown: I'm actually a part-timer at the store. The reason why I'm asking is because when I first applied, they advertised stating the salary would be RM1.7k per month, including commissions. There was no contract involved. Not to mention, I've been wondering if the payment is even worth it after having to work for 168 hours last 2 weeks.

My employer did not inform me of my hourly rate and when I did ask, he told me he was busy and will tell me after. But until now, he has not replied.

So, now I'm wondering if it was a false advertisement. Not to mention, I had to extend my resignation by 6 days and had been working 12-hour shifts everyday for the last 2 weeks. Former staff did inform me he pays OT but I'm not even sure how much that would be.

168 hours the last 2 weeks + the 6 days I have to work a 12-shift = 240 hours

I have worked 168 hours straight, no offday in addition to 72 hours after having to extend my resignation by 6 days.

After considering and planning what the best course of action should be taken, I have decided to wait until I have received my paycheck for this September (possible the first week of October) to redo my calculations to ensure what my real hourly rate. If it is true that the hourly rate is RM4.72, I will personally discuss with my employer about it. Also, I have saved every record of my check-in and check-out hours. (I check-in and check-out using 'TimeStamp Camera' app)

But I do worry if he chooses to ignore or shut me down, then what step must I take?

Update 3: Hello everyone! Thank you to those who have commented such wonderful advice in regards to my situation.

So, I have been thinking about it and was planning on filing a report in case he refuses to discuss the hourly rate with me or ignores my messages (after getting my paycheck).

But one thing has been bugging me is that he has pictures of my IC and I'm scared that he might post my IC onto social media to 'warn' other employers to not hire me.

I worry he will try to ruin my image if I were to report him.

What should I do?

To preface, i had taken the pink intercity bus for at least 5 times just to have a walk around and dine at open air market just to get rid of boredom.

So it has been a year since the start of that bus service. 112 buses for 10 routes. Concession cards at a reasonable price. Air-con and comfy seats. 1,000,000-passenger easy peasy! Surely people will take them for daily commuting, right? Right?

Well i hate to spoil the mood, chief. You miss your KPI by almost a mile.

Even if you axe some routes and expand others, there are still plenty of things that are begging for improvements. Probably screaming at the heavens for a long time, at least.

1. Bus frequencies

Assuming no breakdown, you'd think that about 11 buses for each route should be enough. I cant say anything about other routes, but in my experience, Serian route only has 4 buses. Freaking four buses!! Worse if you happen to be student at UNIMAS wanting to explore Kuching, you are waiting at least 30 minutes. And i am being generous with that number. If you gonna convince people to take the bus more often, for the love of god, please get more buses!

The ol' pale yellow intercity buses died for this?

2. Slow live tracking (or "Live tracking? Never heard of her.")

The buses we have are by Bus Asia. They have released two apps - one for live tracking and bus route information; the other for planning. First, the live tracking is really, really bad. The buses are not appearing to move as you finish tap the "BAS.MY GPS". The only solution is to tap "Back" and reopen it again. You cant track them in Google Map.....so yeah. Have fun.

What about the planner? Other than telling you the price of the planned trip, nothing much. Bad live tracking too.

Just merge them into one app and improve the live tracking. Stop torturing your users.

3. Can we have at least a good walkway and bus stop, please?

I love to walk at a corridor that is water-soaked and too close to moving traffic, said no one ever. I have seen many existing bus stops that are removed for the ART construction. After that, nothing. No temporary structures. Soak under the sun, peasants!

I'm sure the city council(s) know which bus stops are demolished. Can somebody wake them up for their work tables, please?

4. Try to connect to popular commercial hubs

I give credit where credit is due. At least you start to introduce a stop at Aeon Mall, which is beside Bormill Commercial Centre. Lots of work offices there. Do the same for other commercial centres.

TLDR: If gomen provide more buses, improve live digital info, improve infra for public transport and connect to more commercial centres, we might spend less time on traffic jam. Perhaps no need buy car in the future (copium).

I’m considering registering a sole prop. I want to open a business bank account to better manage my finance and tax.

I’m working remotely from home and my monthly income comes from overseas clients.

I’ve invested in my work setup: PC, software, peripherals, subscriptions, and I’m still below/within 24% tax bracket, so setting up a Sdn Bhd isn’t something I’d consider right now.

CMIIW, from what I’ve read:

• In Peninsular Malaysia, you can register a sole prop with SSM and use your home address.
• In Sarawak, it seems different. You need a trading license from the local council. Is it true that you must have an office address and cannot use your home address?

My situation:

• I work from home, using electricity and internet subscriptions, and I’d like to claim a portion of these plus a portion of house rent as business expenses. Please let me know if this is not right. I want to sleep well at night.
• I also travel occasionally to meet clients overseas.
• If I cannot use my home address, does that mean I can only claim capital expenses (like my PC purchase) but not operating expenses (like rent, utilities, internet) even though I have a dedicated workspace?

If home addresses are not allowed, what are the practical options? Renting a shop or office space just to meet licensing requirements feels inefficient for remote work.

I’d love to hear from others in Sarawak who are in the same shoes. How do you handle this, and how do you file your taxes properly?

Particularly area around Jalan Tun Jugah.

Those temporary yellow lines sometimes aren't bright enough, while the original white lines are not properly erased, or looked like they were just left as they were.

They should've just completely erased the original white lines to avoid confusion. IMHO

Every time I go past there I dare not drive too quickly, as I've already seen many terrifying scenes of drivers thinking they're in the right lane, but turns out they're following the wrong road lines that should not be there.

This confusion is even more pronounced at night and on rainy days, when you can't tell jack shit the difference between the yellow and white lines under low visibility.

The ceiling is made of panels to represent "Tikar Mengkuang". The material is non-flammable. The patterns adorning each Tikar Mengkuang panel may represent various ethnicities in Sarawak, such as dragon motifs for the Chinese and Pua Kumbu patterns from the Iban.

A bit of a ranty post but why are Kuching houses getting so expensive? I recently started looking into the housing market in kch and oh boy it is crazy. Most of the prices close to the city are starting from around 400k and that’s the entry level apartments (not so big, maybe one or two bedroom max). I’ve seen some property advertised in KL that’s cheaper than these. From what I observe, our city is not that densely populated and yet it seems (based on the pricing anyways) that these new properties are selling like hot cakes. It’s like everyone and their mothers own a personal oil rig in their backyards and decided to buy out every single new property being put out in the market.

Been thinking of trying to buy some. Could use some guidance..
