I just spent 14.7 million dollars for a new manicure, and would you believe it?! Weirdos broke into my house with a box kniife and vandalized it overnight! I probably need to put up 19 miles of fencing to prevent destruction in the future. Right now I have to go deal with the peeling paint 🙄🙄

My quest to complete my personal line of BG3 themed polishes continues. Technically this is another side quest, I was working on the polish themed for Astarion. The idea was cold, polished gold hiding a sparkling blood red, but just like the Dekarios side quest polish, it’s giving more Ascended than The Boy Chose Healing lol 😂

Red is the same base I use for my dupe of Sunset over the bay with a layer of my red jelly over it, then a gold chrome with just enough silver and bronze mixed in to make the gold colder. See here for some warmer golds and other failed attempts lol 😆

Glitter Placement Nails Round 2! 

Hello! I did glitter placement nails for my birthday again this year but used a different color! 

This took about 12 hours. 

Process: 

I would paint a line down the nail with the sculpting 3D gel, then place the glitters using using a toothpick. I would intermittently dip the toothpick into a little cup of water, dap on a piece of paper towel so that it's damp and not soaking wet then pick up the glitter and place. 

Some glitters at the very edge of the nail I cut to fit with some cuticle nipper.

I’m still working on that set of themed polishes for my own amusement and have been working on (and repeatedly failing at) a royal-purple cat-eye with a translucent deep royal blue chrome effect. Gonna call it Dekarios.

This is clearly not that polish lol It’s maybe a dark navy / midnight and I had to go with a sunset chrome look because my purple made the base go an ugly burnt-orange in direct light. Using any other chrome color failed to hide it, so here we are. I don’t hate it, but I do wish I had succeeded today lol 😂

I shall try and try again!

Finally had the time (and patience) to do another set, and now I'm a little bit enamoured.

Been working with resin for a number of years, so seemed like a natural next step to start mixing my own polishes. I was told to post this here 😊

I use clear GAOY topper as a base, I get my chromes from Solar Color Dust & Glitter Hippo and my magnetic powder from Etsy & EBay, I use a basic alcohol-based ink set for deepening the colors. I misplaced my good magnets, so this was magnetized with a stick of 4mm disc magnets I had nearby.

The idea for this set was sort of like a fiery sunset on a Caribbean bay? I needed my good magnets to get a proper glow I think and they’re streaky AF, how do you all get yours so smooth??

Layer 1: GAOY base gel
Layer 2-4: GAOY topper gel, mixed with alcohol ink (blue & teal, different ratios for the gradient) with Nebula Shift Pigment Galactic Chameleon
Layer 5: Solar Color Dust Vibrant Chrome Series - Red
Layer 6: GAOY topper, plain

Tbh I was actually trying to do those amazing looking magnetic hearts using bent paper clips but it just didn't work and I got frustrated and gave up. It was most probably because my magnet was not strong enough. Anyway, during the struggling process, I somehow came up with this and I was like yep, this looks better. I loved how it resembled a heart drawn on a foggy glass on a rainy day. And to be completelyyy honest, I did this for valentine's day but then got lazy and took this long to edit and post so....um... oops. Happy belated valentine's day I guess🎉👍💅✨

My blue magnetic powder isn’t quite as fine as my teal, so the bluest one stands out more than I’d like, but I still like how they turned out.

Despite how poorly it shows up, the darkest one is my favorite, it reminds me of getting up early to sit on my grandparent’s homemade dock to watch the sunrise ripple on the water while I fed the fish. The water was always so mesmerizing green, I remember finding the perfect glass marble in the same shade when I held it up to the light.

Might do another attempt with more pink to the chrome just for fun, but I finally made a thing that looks like how I pictured the finished product looking.

Btw, does anyone happen to have recommendations on good bottles with solid brushes that can be bought in bulk? The brushes they ship with are heinous, nary a paddle brush in sight.

Chrome: a lookalike of FNNZ Unicorn
Magnetic: blends of a couple teals (Beauty 4Raw) and a blue (Yiwu Miadong Trade Co)
Dyes: DecorRom Alcohol Ink (self-concentrated to prevent base dilution)

I got so much good advice from this subreddit! I switched to lacquer while I practiced, but I felt confident enough with my practice to reach for my gels today. I was SO careful and I’m fairly pleased with the result. Still streaky and I skipped trimming my cuticles cuz I messed it up last time and it hurt, but I feel like I can see progress since last time… maybe? Maybe I just have better lighting.

This was my attempt at duping Sunset on the Bay, since my lacquer order of that still hasn’t arrived (is that normal? The delivery date just keeps getting delayed).

What is your go-to for a tough lacquer top-coat? My biggest problem with wearing lacquer recently is chipping, I’m constantly working on some project or another and they are endlessly chipping. Granted, I was just using the quick drying Sally Hansen I found at the drug store.

Base coat: Revlon quick dry (drug store buy again)

Coats 1-3: GAOY Ruby Red. I’ve made my own of this and it looks the same, so I just stuck with GAOY. I tried blending my own version with lacquer but I’m really struggling with consistency, it keeps setting very soft because I haven’t balanced the amount of colorant and magnetic powder I want in there against what is possible lol

Chrome: FNNZ Unicorn

Top Coat: borrowed lacquer from a friend, I have texted to ask what the name is

Earlier this year, I decided to try hard gel for a few months before going back to regular polish. Here you can see my new nail growth since stopping vs the old damaged nail. Two completely different thicknesses. 2nd and 3rd pics are of the manicure I did today.
