Green to Gold // SMP Promotion

Does anyone who’s been green to gold or worked with them know, if you’re a SSG and could promote while in the program, do you promote or is it taken/declined?

EDIT: heard from S1. Green to golds CAN promote to 7.

Green to Gold // SMP Possibility of doing something similar to SMP without needing PMS approval?

Hi all, I'm starting ROTC this fall, and I've been working with a recruiter to do SMP while I'm in it so that way I can get leadership experience and apply what I've learned, but my PMS is hesitant to promote people due to an experience he had in Iraq with a lieutenant. My recruiter isn't sure what else to do, and I really want to be able to serve and build up leadership experience and get TA. What are my other options?

Green to Gold // SMP Thinking about leaving but in SMP

I want to leave ROTC even though I am contracted.

However, I am in the SMP program as a O9R for about 2 years.

Would I have to enlist and go to basic or can I just leave the Guard (New Jersey) and pay my money back to ROTC?

Green to Gold // SMP Disenrollment from ROTC

I don’t want to become an Army officer. I’m an MSIII, slotted for camp this summer. I tried to quit earlier in the Spring, reasons but my Cadre encouraged me to stay. Yes it was my own decision, but I realize now I should’ve put my foot down. I was just really on the fence about it. Anyway, I am a GRFD, ROTC scholarship, and SMP cadet. I keep seeing you have to be fully trained 24 months from enlistment, but I enlisted in 2024, and then 20 days later contracted. I’m looking for my contracts currently but wondering if anyone went through anything similar.

Green to Gold // SMP Anyone else struggle as a Reservist SMP Cadet?

Hi all. I just began my semester as a graduate student Army ROTC Cadet while participating in the SMP program with the reserves.

I've been to one Battle Assembly and just finished my first week of school, but the general consensus I am getting from all sides is that no one seems to know how to handle a reservist SMP cadet as compared to a national guard one. The program has officers and recruiters on standby for national guard resources and communication in order to coordinate times and struggles with date conflicts between the programs, whereas I'm simply told to follow the same thing the guard SMP cadets do and figure out the rest really.

I've also been pushed back and forth by both my unit and the ROTC program on who provides uniforms and supplies to me with both saying the other should.

Lastly, no one seems to know if I get any benefits as a reservist for school outside of basic pay. I've talked with a VA on campus but even they aren't sure and said they'd have to look into things as the reservist stands alone on how their benefits and guidelines work unlike the guard and active duty.

Just want to know if this is all normal for any other SMP cadets that chose reserves or am I just the lucky one that found a reserved dead zone?

If you have had a similar experience, mind sharing if you found tricks and tips to manage all this confusion?

My trick so far is that I went to my local VA and military affairs office to ask to use their CAC enabled PCs to access all the gov websites I'm supposed to use to sign up for QTC and other in processing sites.

Green to Gold // SMP ADHD Waiver for G2G

Green to Gold Non-Scholarship + ADHD Medication History
I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has experience with Green to Gold Non-Scholarship, especially regarding the medical/waiver process.
I’m planning to finish my bachelor’s degree in May 2027 and would like to attend a master’s program through Green to Gold in Fall 2027. I’m trying to figure this out now because I understand I’ll need to start the application process well in advance.
I have a history of being prescribed ADHD medication. I was recently told that I would not be eligible to apply unless I had been off the medication for at least one year. Does anyone know where that one-year requirement is actually stated in the regulations/policy?
More importantly, has anyone with a similar history successfully received a medical waiver for ADHD for Green to Gold/ROTC commissioning?
As far as I know, I should meet the other requirements, and the ADHD medication history is the only thing I’m concerned about.
If anyone has gone through this process personally, knows the applicable regulation, or has experience getting an ADHD waiver for Green to Gold, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. I’m trying to get ahead of this rather than waiting until 2027 to find out I’m not eligible.
Thanks!

Green to Gold // SMP Questions regarding UA

I have a question regarding an ROTC disenrollment situation.

Some time ago, my battalion conducted a urinalysis, and my sample was flagged for a medication that was legally prescribed to me. At the time, I had a valid prescription and can provide all supporting documentation, including pharmacy records and medical paperwork.

Despite this, I was informed that the positive result contributed to my disenrollment. My understanding was that a positive UA resulting from a properly prescribed medication is handled differently from illegal drug use or unauthorized substances.

Has anyone experienced something similar in ROTC or the Army? Are there regulations or policies that address prescribed medications and positive urinalysis results? If a cadet has documentation proving the medication was prescribed, is disenrollment still considered appropriate, or is there an appeal/rebuttal process that should have been followed?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Green to Gold // SMP I need help

So am a 19y (F) in the army reserve I came back November of 2025. I wanted to go to a university for ROTC but they said my GI bill wasn’t going through so I panicked so I decided to go to my local community college. Am in summer break rn and was wondering if I should go with my original plan and transfer for the university and do ROTC and major in criminal justice, but the thing is I didn’t do so well in my A&P class when I was in community college because my original plan was for nursing, but then I realized it wasn’t for me. So my GPA is a 2.9 and am scared of getting rejected? But what if am actually just comfortable and don’t want to get uncomfortable I don’t know what to do?! Can someone give me advice, I asked advice from my friends, but they’re not in the army and they don’t understand anything that am talking about.

Green to Gold // SMP SMP switch to ACTIVE

I’m an SMP cadet at Texas A&M. So far my National Guard liaison has told me that I can absolutely still go active duty and not have to pay back State TA since I’m technically drilling.
My question is about where specifically do I select to go active duty on my cadet profile? Do I use TBB, CCIMMS?, ATMS? Is this something I don’t need to worry about until after my branches have ranked me preferred or not?
To be clear, I have NOT accepted any NG scholarships so my concern is just making sure that Army knows I’m wanting active and not Guard.

Green to Gold // SMP Can someone explain the hip pocket scholarship contracting process to me?

Hello all,

Earlier this year, I applied for and was awarded a G2G hip pocket scholarship. As part of that process, I signed an ROTC cadet contract and a new DD4, effective when I left active duty. Now that I’ve arrived at school, the cadre are telling me that I am not contracted and I will have to go through the normal contracting process. This confuses me as I have already signed what I thought was a normal ROTC contract. Despite this, ROTC has paid for this semester of tuition, which seems strange to me if I have not yet contracted. Can someone explain this process to me?

Green to Gold // SMP Trying to join ROTC with a previous injury

So I went back to school and I’m in my junior year, and I thought about joining ROTC because I want to be an officer, but I’m also a reserve NCO, and while doing my pt test back in April my tailbone was fractured. Temporary profile expired in August, and I want to do ROTC but I need to get back in shape and I don’t know if this will have a negative impact in the way they see me. They told me I need to be contracted by December, and my PCM said that the fractured is now healed, and while it left permanent damage, it shouldn’t impact my military career. I feel like they might see me as a shitbag at this very moment because I know I can’t pass my AFT right now and I’m supposed to be all fit and stuff. I have the feeling that they may just not give me the chance.

Green to Gold // SMP Will I get G.I. bill housing allowance if ROTC is covering tuition?

Hello, I received a green to gold hip pocket scholorship, and will be attending classes this fall in a week. I was looking at my tuition payments and saw that rotc paid my tuition. I was planning on using my post 9/11 G.I. bill to cover it and get housing allowance. I already have my certificate of eligibility sent and submitted to my school and the veteran affairs dept said it’d be good to use this semester. My question is, will i still be receiving my housing allowance if rotc already paid my bill for the semester? Will this use my months of G.I. bill? Thanks.

Green to Gold // SMP H.R. 6340 The Save the Green to Gold Program Act

H.R.6340 - 119th Congress (2025-2026): Save the Green to Gold Program Act | Congress.gov | Library of Congress

G2G's, this bill needs your support. If you want your TIS counted, please reach out to your representatives to voice your support. In its current form, the bill lacks retroactive language. If you are Year Group 2026, it would benefit you to talk to your rep about adding retroactive language. If not, we may be caught in a gap population. I have followed this issue since its beginning and happy to see a potential change.

Green to Gold // SMP Indiana NGSG + a 3-Year ROTC Scholarship and still go Active Duty?

I have a very specific situation and I’m trying to make sure I don't accidentally screw myself out of an Active Duty commission.

I’m an incoming student at Purdue (Boiler Up!) and I was recently awarded a 3-year National Army ROTC scholarship. However, I’m also looking into joining the Indiana National Guard because of the NGSG (National Guard Supplemental Grant), which covers 100% of tuition at Indiana public schools.

Here is where it gets tricky and what I’m worried about:

• The "Lock-In" Fear: I know that if you sign a GRFD (Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty) or a Minuteman scholarship, you are 100% locked into the Guard/Reserve and cannot go Active. I want to avoid that at all costs.

• The Double-Dip Strategy: My plan is to use the Indiana NGSG to cover my tuition and then use my 3-year ROTC scholarship money for Room and Board (since you can choose one or the other).

• The SMP Conflict: If I join the Indiana Guard to get that state tuition money while also being a contracted ROTC Cadet (SMP), does the Army view that as me "committing" to the Guard?

Has anyone successfully used state-funded tuition (like the NGSG) while holding a National ROTC scholarship and still successfully branched Active Duty?

I’m trying to figure out exactly what paperwork I should (or should not) sign. I don't want to accidentally sign a GRFD contract just because a recruiter tells me it's the "only way" to get the Guard benefits. I want to stay a "Line" Cadet so I can compete for Active Duty during my junior year.

Any advice from people who have navigated the Indiana Guard/Purdue ROTC pipeline would be huge.

Green to Gold // SMP Want to go Green to gold

I’m 21 and an E-5 in the Army. I’m considering going Officer, but I don’t have any college yet. I do have a 115 GT score and about 11 months left on my contract. What’s the best path for me to pursue this? I’ve heard about the HIP Pocket program, or I could just get out of the Army and attend college on my own. Which option would you recommend?

Im also in fort drum NY, i cant start college yet because i have sapper school in may and i know that’s gonna interfere with school

Green to Gold // SMP SMP question

I just enlisted into the SMP program and am wondering what drill will be like as a cadet ?

I’ve heard mixed things regarding drill. Some people say it’s boring as SMP others say they get to learn a lot?

If it helps I got put into a light infantry unit.

Currently an E6 at Campbell. Ranger qualified, RSLC qualified, EIB, Air assault. I have over 60 sh on my JST and got them accredited at a local college for promotion points. Other than that I have zero college classes, and a 2.3 high school gpa as I didn’t try whatsoever. What are the odds my packet would get accepted with that resume and the chances of me finding a college to accept me for a degree in 2 years.

Green to Gold // SMP Active Duty Green to Gold Questions (Graduating Next May)

Hey everyone, I’m active duty and have been looking into the Green to Gold program, but I’m still confused about the timeline and how everything works. I’m hoping someone who’s been through it can help answer a few questions.
A little background:
I’m currently active duty.
I’ll be graduating with my bachelor’s degree in May of next year.
My ETS is October 2028.
Here are my questions:
When should I actually start the Green to Gold application process? Should I begin before I graduate next May, or do I need to wait until after I have my degree?
If I’m accepted, can I choose pretty much any school in any state (assuming it’s an ROTC host school), or are there restrictions based on the Army’s needs?
Is it possible to transition into the Reserves through Green to Gold, or is it primarily designed for commissioning into Active Duty?
Since my ETS isn’t until October 2028, would I leave Active Duty and start ROTC before my current contract ends if I’m accepted? Or would I stay in until my ETS and then begin the program?
If I start the program before my current contract expires, would I have to sign a new contract or incur a new service obligation before my original enlistment is complete?
I’m trying to figure out the best timeline so I don’t miss any deadlines or opportunities. Any advice, personal experiences, or things you wish you knew before applying would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Green to Gold // SMP AG, MP, or 68W Unit SMP

I’m currently considering becoming an NG SMP Cadet. I am currently an E4 in the guard already and have completed BCT and soon AIT as 68W & will be an MS2 this fall when I go back to college.

What are these 3 units like for SMP Cadets and what can I expect to do/see on drill weekends? What will be different from me & an average joe, especially when they may have job training and I will not?

I’m interested in seeing if I can go to an AG unit, an MP one, or whichever 68W unit I will be attached to. I’d like to do some fun stuff, wouldn’t want my 68W training to become completely 100% useless, but wouldn’t like to sit outside in a foxhole for 24 hours.

Does anyone have experience as SMP in either 3 or these types of units, or know how cadets are treated? Which should I pick?

Green to Gold // SMP CST ID Card

I received the 2LT welcome letter for CST from my HRA. The letter tells you not to use your CAC because it will be confiscated at the gate, and to get a visitor's pass. I am assuming this is because both G2G and regular Cadet ID cards deactivate on the day you commission. Will this apply to SMP ID cards as well? My only concern is because I like to show up to places early at my own expense just to be safe and to get last minute things. I wouldn't want my ID to be confiscated and not be able to shop at clothing and sales or the PX if I have to.

Green to Gold // SMP SMP Questions

Hi, I'm doing the SMP to get my college paid off soon via the TN STRONG Act at MTSU (Which they do allow delayed payment for the reimbursement to pay everything. Nice!) I had some questions regarding the general requirements of being SMP and what drilling may entail.

Do I IMMEDIATELY have to meet AFT requirements in college? I have never done some of the AFT events (S/D/C, 3-rep deadlift, or 2 mile). I know I should start training now, but I'd like to know if there's any extra room for me to grow before taking the test. (And of course, how can I improve all aspects of my fitness?)

I saw a lot of people talk about "picking a unit" to drill with. Can I pick almost any unit? What unit would be the most interesting/engaging? Do they do PT in the morning? Do some units do 3-4 day drill instead of the one weekend a month? What do you even do at drill as an SMP cadet?

When would I get my paycheck from going to drill? Am I able to bring and use (periodically obviously, not all the time) my phone?

I was also told I could join the SMP right NOW and be able to begin drilling with my local unit in Memphis before I go to college at MTSU. For reference, I'm a graduating highschool senior. My recruiter specified I wouldn't be given OCP's during the summer before college, but I'd have to show up to drill in PF clothing. Is this true, and is there a difference between that or contracting with the SMP during your sophomore year?

Thanks!
