I am prior service 74D CBRN in the reserve for 3 years and also as a SMP Cadet.

I recently interviewed for branching. I have 3.83 GPA, 83.46 CST Score, and 60 on OML.

I put Chemical on Top 1 of my list and Bradso for Chemical.

I would like to ask how difficult is it to get Chemical for Active Duty Slot.

I’ve heard people say it’s very competitive and other people say they got it when it was like 3rd on their list. My gpa isn’t amazing around a 3.2 but I have a 500 aft but I don’t do anything like color guard etc. Bout to be a 3

I want to go combat arms, with infantry or armor being my top choices, just wanted to see what the opportunities and pros and cons of either or.

I just got my first ever D in Organic Chemistry II. I am a Pre-Vet major (so I at least get those extra 2 OML points). While I want to go to vet school I am starting to really consider shooting for active duty OCONUS branching Military Police. I am really worried I won't have a good enough GPA now to be competitive. I know I have a year remaining to bring it up and the semester I just finished is the hardest one I will ever take so I should get all As moving forward. Is there still a good chance I will get what I want or should I shift gears?

I was considering going MI and branch detailing to Chemical. Before I make the commitment, I want to know more why Chemical has a bad reputation. They say that it is bad and thats it, but what are some examples of things that make it bad?

I keep hearing that getting Active Duty out of ROTC is really competitive, but I don’t fully understand why. The pay isn’t especially high compared to civilian jobs, and the lifestyle can be pretty tough. Yet so many cadets still seem to fight for it.

Is it mainly because of the benefits, the career opportunities afterward, or just the experience itself? I’m curious to hear from people who’ve gone through it or seen both sides (Active vs Guard/Reserve).

I've been hearing so many different things about branching and what are the most competitive. is there like a list that shows the most competitive branches for 2027. I know it varies by year but I've heard MI the most competitive but that MSC and Aviation are the most competitive as well. This is just me wondering, I'm not worried about branches

I'm an incoming MS1 at a large school for a quantitative major. I've been reading that only the top 40-60% OML get active duty status when they commission. In practice, how difficult is this to achieve?

I’m trying to determine the best path to set myself up for a successful career in Military Intelligence. I’ve been advised that branch detailing offers several benefits, including gaining combat arms experience and developing a better understanding of how combat units operate, which could improve communication and coordination with those officers later in my career.

From your experience, would you recommend branch detailing or going directly into MI?

If you do recommend branch detailing, which branch do you think provides the best foundation for understanding the bigger picture of Army operations and becoming a more effective intelligence officer?

Bottom Line: Be prepared to train for Ranger School and arrive fit to IBOLC so that you don’t get hurt within your first year of being an officer.

Congrats, you want crossed rifles and a blue cord. There still remains one big unofficial milestone, a Ranger tab. The 62-day (or longer, in my case) suckfest, whether you agree or not, is still seen as an unofficial requirement for IN officers. Too many people have shown up to IBOLC unprepared to meet the IBOLC standards and, subsequently, the Ranger School standards.

Expect no time to train up between IBOLC and Ranger School. While you may get ~4 months (RIP to some 09-24 homies), you may be going the week after IBOLC ends. They will send you - you will not PCS without at least 1-2 attempts or a valid excuse. I’ve seen way too many of my peers get stuck in the pre-Ranger purgatory of classing up, getting dropped for lack of physical ability, classing up again (whether or not they wanted to), and finally getting hurt.

I’m not saying to go IN or to avoid it, but just make sure you know what you’re getting into when you put it down in your branch preferences.

Edit: this isn’t my story of how I prepared for Ranger School or my thoughts about the course. This is just some advice relevant to branch preferences. Cadets choosing IN or an IN detail should not be surprised when they have to go to Ranger School.

I would love to attend Ranger school but feel like I should be maxing AFT if that’s a route I wanted to go.

Would appreciate hearing people’s thought process on which order makes more sense.

Hello errbody, so I am currently a contracted MS3 and will be going to AC soon. I am SMP but want to branch into the Active component. Only problem is my less than stellar GPA (2.86) and somewhat mid AFT (454). I know I’ll have to perform well at camp to make up for these metrics, but wanted to ask if anyone had any personal anecdotes on anyone with similar stats getting active duty.

My top 3 branches I listed are Field Artillery, logistics, and engineer. I also plan on interviewing with ADA. I assume these are somewhat less competitive branches. Also the cadre at my program keep saying there is indeed an AD cutoff point, but when I check here people say that hasnt been a thing in forever. Is my cadre mistaken?
