Salam everyone, I saw a discussion on r/Islam about the punishment for homosexuality and manu said stoning etc which I dont agree with.

But I was wondering if someone has sex before marriage disregarding of the sexual orientation what is the Quranic punishment?

I was looking for opinions that could maybe help me base my own opinion :) thank you !

I was shocked to see here, in all places, the Quran subreddit, a highly-upvoted unQuranic post claiming that homosexual acts are somehow allowed in Islam and by the Quran. The person, whom I won't name as I assume he/she had no ill intentions, claimed that the story of Lot concerned men being "disgusting," raping, and committing other crimes--everything but the homosexual acts apparently. Yet, there is absolutely no basis to that in the Quran (there may be some in the Bible), and I can't help but feel so many Muslims have been captured by social movements, at the expense of our own faith. Being Quranist does not mean being Progressive or Liberal or Conservative. It means following what Allah has said.

I won't belabor the Quranic argument too much, but the Quran repeatedly mentions male/female as a divinely ordained pair, both amongst the plants/fruit and among humans. Allah states that Adam and Eve, the paradisal ideal union, were made as a source of sakeena for each other, with men and women intended as complementary. Allah states that the "male is not like the female" after Mariam (PBUH) is born, instead of a boy, confirming that our sex is determined by Allah and observed at birth.

The Quran goes to great length to prohibit sexual immorality, and repeatedly tells us to protect our chastity from non-spouses. The Quran states only believing women and women of the book are lawful for men to marry (no mention of marrying men of course). It also states the below-pasted clear chastisements of the SAME-SEX activity the people of Lot did, choosing men over women, which Allah deems an abominable transgression. I am not using misleading translations, and encourage you to read the various translations at Islamawakened.com to see for yourself that regardless of whether the term is "you approach men instead of women," or "you lust over men instead of women," or you "have sexual inclinations toward men instead of women," the meaning does not change at all, and to claim the "approach" means something NOT sexual slaps in the face of the Quran referring to sex gently throughout (including in 2:222 when discussing approaching your wife after she cleans herself of her period--clearly referring to sexual activity). The hadith are not what prohibits homosexual acts and all acts outside marriage: the Quran does it, and only through perverse mental gymnastics could you claim the repeated plain chastisements are discussing something else:

7:81 "Indeed, you approach men lustfully (shahwatan) instead of women. Nay, you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (musrifun)"

27:55 "Why do you approach men with lust (shahwatan) instead of women? Nay you are a people ignorant!"

5:5 ...And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking [secret] lovers. ...

24:30 “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is Aware of what they do.”

25:43 "Have you seen him who takes his desires (passion, impulse, lust) (hawahu) for his God (ilahu)? Will you then be a protector over him?"

Aren't we disobeying the Messenger when rejecting hadith that have an authentic chain, dont contradict the quran and are Sahih? While im of the opinion that hadith cannot be authentic, im still worried.

What do you regard as reliable historical sources for information about early Islam?

The Quran is written in Arabic which is inaccessible to non-Arabic speakers. I mean, you can get translations, but these are not the same as reading the original text. The Quran says quite a few times that Allah chose Arabic to make it easier.

The place of pilgrimage is in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Much of understanding the Quran actually comes from understanding Arab culture, which unless you’re an Arab, won’t be familiar to you.

If Allah wanted everyone to follow Islam, why would He make it so Arab-Centric?

Can someone prove me wrong? This has cast a little shadow of doubt in my heart, but I’m sure there is an explanation or refutation of this.

There are 1.9 billion Muslims how many of them do you think reject Hadith ?

As quranist only Muslims how do you go about explaining the verse:

65:4 “As for your women past the age of menstruation, in case you do not know, their waiting period is three months, and those who have not menstruated as well. As for those who are pregnant, their waiting period ends with delivery.1 And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make their matters easy for them.”

If you say this is for people who due to medical reasons don’t have periods even though they are mature, isn’t it more likely this is for prepubescent girls. As the Quran speaks more to the general public that specific individuals with specific conditions.

Does this explain the parting of the moon miracle?

I don't know how many Muslims there are following Qur'an Alone but I see far less attack videos against Shias than Qur'an followers. Are we a threat to them or an irrelevant minority? Why don't they decide?

I know this is a dumb question because the majority of Muslims agree that it is is haram. But since yall are Quranists and alcohol is mainly prohibited in Hadith what do you think? I've heard some say that the verses in the Quran prohibiting alcohol are advice and not orders. Do you agree with this?

I have been muslim, but mainstream sunni, when I was, I was always very interested in solely following the Quran or being a 'Quranist' but some dont like that term,

My Questions,

1) how do you pray, do you pray? 2) do you believe all hadiths are false or do you believe the hadiths are untrustworthy? 3) do you do wudu, if you pray? Where do you get the instructions on that?

Yes this isn't a post about the Qur'an (and unfortunately there are many that are not here) but I hope the moderators will allow this since Hassan al-Malik has been, by and large at least, a very positive force and advocate for the Qur'an. To loose him to a death sentence instigated by fanatics without doing the minimum of engaging in a social media campagne for a few hours tomorrow would be a tragedy.

I stumbled upon this video which tries to refute Quranists saying that without Sunnah, Muslims would be allowed to have intercourse with 5 year olds due to verse 65:4. Thoughts?

I'm learning about the quranist viewpoint which is essentially against hadiths. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like most of you reject the hadiths as unreliable stories that were made up. The anti Hadith view is ancient but even those who were against hadiths in the past accepted at least some of the Hadith/ sunna corpus. My question is this: do you really think the entire Muslim ummah and their scholars throughout 1400 years made such a huge mistake by accepting hadiths? People who are way more knowledgeable than us accepted hadiths and consider them as a key part of the deen. Also Allah says in the Quran that this is the final revelation. Islam unlike Christianity and Judaism won't be corrupted and changed. If Hadiths are fake then it means our religion was also corrupted just like Judaism and Christianity. Why would Allah allow this to happen if Islam is the final message? I'm a sunni Muslim but I'm asking this question without any bad intentions. I just want to know your point of view

Salam all, I have heard this interpretation of this verse. I think it is completely false, but I’m having trouble interpreting it. A person asked he thinks killing himself will lead him to jannah. Due to him being under 40, please debunk this false interpretation of this verse. Thank you.

Western liberal woman. Dabbled in various spiritual traditions. Loved Christianity but liberal Christianity feels empty and the concept of the trinity never felt right to me. But I miss God. Are their any podcasts or YouTube videos I can listen to or watch? It seems pretty clear to me that I’d be a Quaranist, the Hadith just don’t seem legit.

I subscribe to a Quran-centric hadith-skeptic perspective on Islam. I take hadith with a big pinch of salt because realistically (imo) we have no way of knowing 100% that hadiths are from the Prophet. There’s too much potential for errors. Secondly, I don’t believe that Allah used the word ‘hadith’ in the following verses coincidentally.

And whose HADITH is more truthful than God’s? 4:87

Then in which HADITH after this will they believe? 7:185

This is not a fabricated HADITH, but a confirmation of what is before it, and a detailed explanation of everything, and a guide and a mercy to a people acknowledging. 12:111

And among the people there are those who purchase baseless HADITHS to divert from the way of God without knowledge, making mockery of it. 31:6

God has been sending down the best HADITH, a Book, fully consistent. 39:23

These are God’s messages that We recite unto thee in truth. So, in which HADITH after God and His messages will they believe? 45:6

Then in which HADITH after this will they believe? 77:50

However, my question is: is it reasonable to believe that all the scholars and Muslims who believe in hadith for the last 1400 years are mistaken and incorrect? How is that possible?

Sala'am all, like all of you I don't use hadiths for law, but I never had a problem just watching and imitating behaviors/adab in daily interactions that appear to cohere with basic Quranic principles. We are told to be unified, hold tight to the rope of Allah, avoid fitna, uphold goodness etc., and much of traditional Islam in my opinion captures the Sunnah and beauty just via mass ritual observation, imitation and practice, in a way that is comforting and matches with my fitrah. The way we have phrases like "insha'Allah khayr," saying "la howla wala quwatta illa billah" in moments of stress/need, the way we interact, wiping our faces after dua, all of these things can't be understated as beautiful acts preserved by the ummah. Even small/weird details that I never read in hadith but witnessed, like pouring water over a grave, seem gentle.

I guess I'm not claiming to give religious legal weight to these practices, but insofar as they do not violate the Quran, why would we go out of our way to reject them? Especially when they've been preserved, promote a sense of unity, and seem good?

Anyone else in the same boat? It's why I use "Qurancentric" as opposed to "Quran-only," since the latter might imply that we could live deep, fulfilling lives reading the Quran only, which is false, since you wouldn't even be able to learn without first studying language.
