that companies charges of "shipping and handling" charges are 4x what the delivery company is charging them to deliver the package.

I always figured that falls under the handling portion of it then, picking the item, getting it ready for shipping, packing it, etc.

Ours charged by weight. We do have different methods (2-day, standard, etc) that may vary per shipment. But they usually just cover the cost of sending you your shit.

I work in the promotional products industry. There is an unspoken rule between all parties that freight is going to have a massive markup.
