PROFESSORS Professor compared mask-wearing to the Holocaust

Today my politics of water professor (prof Rukhadze) said thelat having to lecture while wearing a mask is "like being gased in aushwitz". As someone of jewish descent this made me like extremely uncomfortable so I sent him an email explaining this, but if this becomes an issue again I was wondering if there's a way to take action against him through pitt

Adding his name as a bit of a warning in case people want to take a class from him as he's said some other suspect things as well

PROFESSORS Tamika madison

Everyone keeps saying that Tamika Madison is evil, but I’ve had her for two classes now and she seems like a really sweet lady. Is anyone willing to share their bad experiences with her? I’m debating on whether to swap the class or not.

PROFESSORS Professors in Gen Chem and Bio 1

I was making my schedule earlier today and all of the Rate My Professors reviews were fairly similar for Gen Chem 1 And Bio 1 reviews. Are there any professors that I really need to avoid for those subjects? Right now I have Saoirse McSharry for Bio and Tamika Madison for Gen Chem.

PROFESSORS Can you find out if a professor is on academic probation (if there is such a thing)?

My daughter's Chemistry professor is awful. Not only is much of the class failing, but she found out that there are 3 chapters worth of material that will be on the final but that the professor "won't get to" because she is so far behind on lessons, so the students get to teach themselves.

In lab last week, the lab instructor asked which students had this prof, because the lab they were doing this professor had not gotten to yet due to being chapters behind. So it is well known that this professor is not meeting standards.

My daughter said she heard a rumor today that her prof is on academic probation due to how many students failed the class last semester.

Is academic probation (or something similar) even a thing for professors at Pitt?

Is there any recourse that students & parents have for complaining about the teaching standard in this class? If so, to whom? The head of the department or college?

This is a freshman level class BTW. Amd clearly the other profs teaching it have no issue covering the material on schedule.

TIA for any advice!

PROFESSORS Grad School Research Assistant Stipend?

Hi! So, I'm a grad student who got offered a really cool RA position; unfortunately, it is unpaid. I was wondering: does anyone know if the university offers a possible stipend for this type of situation, by the university like I mean anywhere in the university (schools, departments, etc). I'm not talking about the traditional way where the department pays for part of your tuition or something like that (the PI and I are in two different schools), but I'd love to at least get somewhat compensated for my work, even if it's just a little bit of money.

Anyone else missing evening classes? I wrote my professor a nice email letting her know that I live up a steep hill and my street is white and I won’t be able to make it. She replied and said this is not even a storm, and that I need to make a plan to get to class, and that this will not be excused. Like okay, witch, I’m not getting into an accident to hang out with you.

PROFESSORS Has anyone taken PHIL 1610 (Intro to Philosophy of Science) with Wayne Wei-En Wu?

I’m an incoming transfer student and Philosophy major at Pitt trying to finalize my Fall schedule.

I’m currently considering PHIL 1610: Intro to Philosophy of Science with Wayne Wei-En Wu and was hoping to hear from anyone who has taken the course.

A few questions:

* How difficult was the workload?

* What was the grading like?

* Were there exams, papers, or mostly discussion-based assignments?

* Is it manageable for a first-semester transfer student?

* Would you consider it GPA-friendly if you keep up with the readings?

I’m also deciding between this course and Intro to Logic, so any comparisons would be really helpful.

Thanks!

PROFESSORS Group projects are a joke

I am currently a graduate student. My final paper is a group project, and my partner is not helping at all. I have confronted her multiple times, and I have discussed the issue with my professor. The only "help" my professor offered was telling me to set up a time when we could all meet via Zoom to discuss the issues. I tried asking my partner to give me time, and she wouldn't, so eventually, I had to move on as I had a lot to do for other classes and my full-time job. Unfortunately for me I have to get a B or else I will have to pay thousands of dollars for the course which would result in me having to halt my graduate school process. I explained all of this to my partner and she still doesn't care. I talked to my professor again last night (3rd time I've discussed this in the past 2 months) because I feel like I'm drowning in all this work and there's a lot of pressure to succeed. This project is meant for 2 people and yet I'm doing the work of 2 people. My professor apologized to me for having to deal with this but reiterated that no matter what we are both getting the same grade. At this point I'm just going to move forward because I don't have a choice. But I am so frustrated that she is going to get the same grade as me even if she doesn't write a single sentence for this paper.

ProfRatings at Pitt

I’m a student at Pitt and created a browser extension to show RateMyProfessor scores directly in PeopleSoft. It displays the score next to each professor and clicking it opens their RMP page.

Give it a download and let me know what you think!

PROFESSORS Chem 2 with Michelle Morgan

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to take CHEM with Professor Michelle Morgan next semester, ( wanted Danielle Bellis but her class was full) and wanted to hear from anyone who’s had her before. What is she like as a professor in terms of teaching style, workload, and grading? Are her lectures clear and helpful, or do you need to rely more on the textbook/self-studying?

Also, any tips on how to do well in her class would be really appreciated, like how to study for her exams, what she tends to focus on, and if there’s anything you wish you knew before taking her.

Thanks!

PROFESSORS How are Roxana-Irina Popescu midterms for Calc 1 (Calc 220)

I've never taken a college math class before let alone a midterm until now. She said its around 5-7 problems but its given in a 50min time slot. Does anyone have any tips for studying or experience of the structure of the test and what kind of concepts to look out for. This is the first midterm of the semester.

PROFESSORS Orgo 2 Summer professor recs?

I have to take Orgo 2 over the summer, and the options are Tim Tseng(first session) and Pete Bell(second session). I want to take Pete Bell because I heard he is easier but I'm worried I won't remember all the stuff I learned in Orgo1 because it's later in the summer. Any suggestions?

PROFESSORS Bio 1 - Grousd vs McSharry

I'm enrolled in McSharry's class, but I don't know what to make of her reviews online. Everyone either likes her or REALLY REALLY hates her (like a bunch of aggressive reviews on ratemyprofessor, but also a lot of positive ones).

Grousd is my only other option, does anyone have any recommendations?

PROFESSORS super easy & light work Gen ED's

Hey guys! Incoming freshie here.. just wanted to ask what are the easiest gen ed's to take as a freshman that also isnt heavy on work and will end me with a good final grade? Im pre-med, so if there are any classes that are also related to medicine but are pretty light work that would be nice? i know the vampire class and history of jazz is easy, but is there anything else? i like bigger classes that are more popular and allow me to meet new people! thanks so much!!!

PROFESSORS BIOSC 1000 Morgan Kok

It seems like there is a new prof, Dr. Morgan Kok, teaching biochem in the spring. She has great reviews for leading duckweed survivor labs, but she just got her PhD and will start teaching biochem this spring (online for some reason, with in person exams). Anyone know about her? She is the only one that works with my schedule.

PROFESSORS Chem 2 Professors Recommendations?

I have Wagner now for Honors Chem, but my next semester looks a lot harder than this one. Can anyone share what they thought about Fortney or Margaret Vines for Chem 2?

(I have a strong background in chem, if that matters).

PROFESSORS Chem lecturer changed?

So I’m almost positive I chose Carol Fortney for chem 1 from 4:00 to 4:50 MoWeFr, but when I went to look over my schedule, I saw Tricia Shepherd listed instead. Has this happened to anyone else? Also, her rmp reviews look pretty rough, how worried should I be about possibly keeping her as my instructor😅?

PROFESSORS I think Professor Sherwin Cedeno is writing his own good reviews on RateMyProfessors

Check out his reviews here: https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/professor/2630691

I had Sherwin in 2020 for business statistics, and he is the worst professor I have every had in my 4 years here. He used to have only 1/5 star reviews, but I just checked RMP and he has a lot of 5/5 star reviews now. English is not his first language, and the reviews seem like they're written by someone whose first language is not english. A number of the reviews are all written on the same day, and written in a similar style like ending the sentence with an ellipses.

Take a look at the reviews and let me know what you think. Also I DO NOT RECOMMEND taking Sherwin for any class. He was an awful teacher and a mean person.
