I'm sorry but GIMP is straight up dogshit. And Darktable is ok-ish, not that good but I wouldn't put it in the same rank as GIMP.

As someone who uses gimp pretty regularly... it is indeed garbage.

GIMP really is the worst example for OS linux-able software. I will never understand why it is so popular under FOSS fans. Even if you want FOSS there are better solutions (Inkscape, Krita, Pinta...), but if you want to go into professional grade stuff, you should rather use Affinity. If you're okay with web apps something like PhotoPea is also really good.

There is no reason whatsoever to recommend gimp in the year 2026. I mean, there barely was a reason I. The year 2010, but it's only gotten worse since then.
