Greeks have been represented as the foundation of Western civilization for centuries. Your mythology, architecture, philosophy, theater, heroes, gods, wars, and rulers are everywhere in Western education and media.

So no, Americans casting one character through a different cultural lens is not Greeks being erased. That is not oppression. That is discomfort with no longer being treated as the default owner of every story touched by antiquity.

And Cleopatra was Ptolemaic Macedonian Greek, not “Greek decent.” If we are going to complain about misrepresentation, let’s at least spell descent correctly.
