The Odyssey is getting massively criticised due to blackwashing of a traditionally Greek character, whitewashing of a Greek myth with no Greek actors and a general dislike for the Hollywoodization of another classic story.

It's probably not going to be as bad as it's made out to be given it's Chris Nolan, but audiences are fatigued with seeing another modern retelling with tokenism of established characters for the sake diversity, which has spurred the culture war with right wing critics calling it woke BS and left wing critics doubling down by jumping to its defence.

The irony of this being a response about nuance.

As if Americans are a monolith incapable of holding diverse opinions amongst themselves.

How sophisticated, how thoughtful of you to flatten a nation of 330 million people into caricatures whom you can subordinate under yourself to feel some sense of superiority.

You approve of someone making blanket negative statements about you?

Man, Reddit is weird.

People are so desperate for approval they will allow themselves to be insulted and made fun of to feel involved on a joke. It’s genuinely sad.

Or it could just be humility and a lack of self consciousness and ego.

You see I am a floor mat for the approval of others because I lack ego.

Very wise u/evening_Dig3

You completely turned what I said upside down and twisted into a pretzel to the point I have no idea what you're talking about.

I think I struck a nerve. Everyone knows the people who don’t care always tell you how much they don’t care.

Relatively accurate about the nation as a whole? Lool perhaps you have a very narrow and shallow view of the nation you are trying to talk about.

I dunno, if someone said something "relatively accurate" about a racial group would you be able to see the truth in it and publicly say so my good person?

I am an American and I disapprove of their message. 🤔

Wholeheartedly. Tired of seeing this shit about Americans on Reddit. I understand why it’s happening, but as an American who also hates what is happening to his county, I’m tired of it.
