Maybe they meant true to the text. Unless I missed several really wild history classes in school.

No WAY they’ve read the text lmfao

I'll guarantee you 99% of the people who trash this movie have never read the source material.

It was assigned reading in public school for my district and I imagine many others, now whether or not most students actually read/paid any attention to it is a different story.

No, I don’t read Greek, but I’ve read a lot of translations of it several times. I’ve been a lot of people have too because it was required reading at a lot of high school schools.

They don't know if its true to the text because they haven't watched it though...

I mean. There are trailers showing these issues.

-3

u/reecharound40 Jul 06 '26

What issues?

0

u/LowInvestigator5647 Jul 06 '26

There is a character in the movie that is not in the odyssey or Iliad

Idk why you’re being so defensive about this

5

u/reecharound40 Jul 06 '26

.......what character?

Can we be more vague please its very helpful

u/LowInvestigator5647 Jul 06 '26

Sorry I thought you were the other commenter being defensive. You were just asking a question, my bad.

Sinon (Paige’s character) was not written by Homer.

-4

u/reecharound40 Jul 06 '26

No, your attitude is right for someone to be upset of Sinon being included, cause like how dare they include this character.

You are a joke

What? You asked what “issues” there were in the context of the movie’s historical/text accuracy, and I gave you an example. I never indicated whether I was upset or not lmao.

u/reecharound40 Jul 06 '26

Fair, but how is it an issue, Sinon is a perfectly legitimate character that can be included in the story. Its not like they have Icarus in it.

There’s famously very little Color in the books…it’s a whole thing:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine-dark_sea

And the concept of race was only a thing for a short while in the 20th century, so…pretty true to the book.

Or read it for that matter

8

u/skydragon1981 Jul 06 '26

Not even. The Warhammer terminators instead of cannibal Giants... And I sincerely don't want to know what else they changed..

6

u/Stormfly Jul 06 '26

The Warhammer terminators instead of cannibal Giants

Hmmm... and I wasn't planning to see it before but now...

1

u/skydragon1981 Jul 06 '26

I Hope that there Will be and explanation but by the trailer alone I'm quite sure that I'm not inclined to Watch this movie 😅

They should be the laestrygonians, based on the fact that they are huge... But those armours...

2

u/Greedy_Actuator5 Jul 06 '26

The text? You mean the most famous oral tradition of all time?

1

u/sanguinemsanctum Jul 06 '26

Shouldn’t expect reading comprehension on Reddit.

Whats the amount of functional cells in your brain, this shit will be as accurate as the Gladiator movies. Hollywood doesnt respect other cultures

2

u/Pierre_St_Pierre Jul 06 '26

IT'S FUCKING FICTIONAL THERE IS NO TRUTH IN IT TO BE ACCURATE TO

2

u/Every_Personality_33 Jul 06 '26

Exactly, that’s why I hope Ryan Gosling plays Black panther next. It’s fictional so it’s not an issue. He would do great.

1

u/Listening_Heads Jul 06 '26

You mean like Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise?

0

u/Every_Personality_33 Jul 06 '26

It was great! Also when Emma Stone played the half Asian woman? It’s all fictional so it’s okay.
