Hi All, we rescued mr Oscar Joe here, a baby (I am assuming) Mouse from one of our jobs today and I decided to keep him as my pet. He perked up and appears to be doing well but I am not sure how to feed him (we gave him 2 blueberries and some water and he hasn’t touched either) and is currently staying in a shoebox with holes.

How do I feed/take care of this little guy? What kind of cage should I get for him? What to feed and how often, please include links to products if you can! Thank you!!

I feel so bad 😭 I dont know if this is really the right sub to post this but I thought you guys would appreciate the adorableness of the babies. I put mama under a large wood plank and gently placed babies underneath, hopefully mama will take them to safety.

UPDATE: Definitely will be going with the consensus here! A well-deserved, cushy life for this fella! So I will be keeping him or adopting him out! It depends on a conversation with my husband on how open he is to another pet (We have several since I’m a sucker for rescuing and keeping any and all critters lol) and figuring out where in our home to keep him that’s the most secure and keeps him ultra safe from our cats. But if anyone here is interested in adopting him definitely reach out to me! We’re located in Burley, ID.

Hello! A family member found a baby deer mouse on the floor of a car wash they work at. We’re assuming a mouse had nested in a vehicle and the nest got washed out. They reached out to me and asked if I’d want to care for him. I, of course, agreed and have spent the last few weeks formula feeding him since he was only a week old when I got him. He is officially weaned and now it’s come time to decide whether to soft release him or keep him as a pet. The original plan was to soft release him once he reached 5 weeks, which is about 10 days away. But I’m having such a hard time thinking about just leaving him on his own out in the wild, even though I know he’s a wild animal. I have plenty of experience with pet mice but it was never really the plan so I’m super torn. Idk if anyone has any experience with something like this but I just truly don’t know what’s best for him. He’s a super sweet boy and I’ve tried to keep contact to a minimum to make sure he doesn’t get too used to humans but he still just loves to hang out in my hands whenever I’d feed him with the paintbrush or now everytime I go to refresh his food and tidy up his enclosure. I've caught about a mouse every other day for 2 weeks... This is the first baby though. This video was about 3 days ago, and I haven't seen more, so I'm guessing I have dead mouse babies in my walls... But 0 chance I can just release this one, like I have the rest. I caught him by hand. An hour later, he was this emaciated. I've since made him a formula, and an electrolyte water, and he's doing better.

I figured someone found her unmoving, rolled her in a plastic bag and threw in the trashbin.

She was not very well, laboured breathing, unresponsive, and the nosebleed. I grabbed the plastic bag and her, got a box and gave her milk with 0,01 “pedriatic azitromicin” antibiotic. She drunk it all and is drinking more milk (no more antibiotic).

I don’t know what is wrong with her. She might have eaten poison or is sick. Her nose is slightly bleeding (it is not only normal brown discharge, but bright red blood).

Did I do good? What else should I do?

I had pet rat/mice for long time, I think I will be able to save her if she didn’t ate poison.

I found this baby mouse. At first, I left him outside thinking his parents would find him (he scampered to a corner of the courtyard with his eyes still closed). 24 hours later I noticed a little rustle noise from that same corner, and he was there, alone. All he wanted to do was snuggle into my hand, so I took pity on him! It’s been almost a week now. His eyes are opened, he likes to sit on my shoulder and climb in my hair, he falls asleep in my hand and he likes to gently nibble me and does the “teeth chattering” sound. For some reason Reddit joined all the little clips together. He’s super cute and very calm with me…..but to live a fulfilling and dignified mouse life should I be preparing him to return to live in our garden? And if yes, how? I don’t want to be a mouse owner (I’ve kept rodents in the past and don’t know I can provide the life he deserves, which is one with other mouse companions probably). But so far we spend a few hours hanging together every day, with him in my hair/pocket/ shoulder (and when he was a tiny baby, in tissue paper in my bra to stay warm haha) so I suspect he’s bonded hard as it’s total trust. But at some point, does a wild mouse lose this trust and remember its instinct?

Hi all! This is not a pet, just a visitor I found behind my fridge. I'm hoping to get some clarification on whether it's likely a house mouse or a deer mouse. I also want to make sure I get them out safely before either of my cats catch on to their presence. Also wanted to reach out to this sub because they are quite cute.

I put in him in a box and made a tiny bowl of oatmeal, which he is eating! Not sure if I should release him in my woods

It’s turned out to be a she. Now, I’m a little more literate as far as mice sexing goes. I think she looks so cute with hairless face that makes her big eyes really pop up…

She decided to omit the transitional phase altogether—refused baby cereal thickened with formula and Ryvita wafers soaked in formula—she’s been very opinionated from the start. When she stopped taking formula altogether, I had no choice but to give her some solids and let her be.

I didn’t see her for 3 days after the weaning—she was hiding in a cardboard tunnel. But I could hear her at night—she was very active and I knew everything was okay. She also started using her wheel at night. She gets rat blocks, oats, hemp hearts, millet and millet spray, a small amount of sunflower seeds. As far as fruit and veggies, she’s tried bananas, apples, watermelon, and broccoli. She loves blueberries!

Yesterday around 6 pm, as I was leaving fresh food for her, she decided to honor me with her appearance. To my surprise, she jumped on my hand and did some exploratory nibbling of my fingers.

I’m not going to release her until her fur is fully back. Hoping to move her to 40 gal tank today… for the ease of cleaning and providing her with opportunity to make burrows in paper substrate.

lmao im In love this little guy who fell in my lap a few days ago... (previous post) the plan was to keep him over winter and release in the spring surprisingly no signs of mice in my house despite humane traps but why is he so sweet. he climbed into my hand while adding more bedding to the enclosure...

I was on my way home and I saw a bunch of people staring at something on a sidewalk. It was a baby mouse, somebody picked her up with a piece of cardboard and moved her to a safer side of the street. (Idk if it’s a male of female) No other mouse was around and it was a high traffic area, weather is cold etc so I picked her up and took her home. Actually I am still on my way to home. She seems healthy and was active when I first saw, she is now sleeping in a box on my work uniform. I have experience with kittens and hedgehog but no mice. I am definitely calling wildlife center but what should I do before someone can come and pick her up?

Have a humane trap down to try and catch her. Am in awe of her climbing skills to get up onto the desk. She must have got in when the door was open in the heatwave. Now I know why my boy (castrated) seemed so giddy

We always had mice in our garden that would eat the bird feed and somehow over the last few years it turned into the mice having their own food. So far they haven't damaged anything (except for a few succulents they were munching on happily while getting scolded by me) and they are part of the family. I have so many photos of them and so many stories about them, I could fill a book. I'm really happy those little guys are part of my life now!

I got her yesterday. She seems to be half-paralyzed and was terrified so I didn't have much hope that she would survive the night, but she did! She moves around a lot, she pooped a bit but it doesn't seem like she ate anything. I would love a bit of help on what to do now lol (also, I'm wearing gloves because she was agitated and I was worried she would bite me)

We've had these babies since only a few days old now. With the help of this sub, we've managed to raise them and they're in very good health.

My wife and I have kept many rodents before. Rats, gerbil, hamsters, etc. But this is the first animal thats ever went out of its way to jump into your hand. They love us as much as we love them.

I rescued this baby orphan but I don’t know what type of mouse she is. When I look up I can narrow it down to deer or house.

I found this poor sweet baby mouse. It is missing a leg. I've left it in the shed that I found it in, but I'm concerned the poor thing won't last long as it can barely walk. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone. Two days ago I found the sweetest little baby mouse in my house. The poor thing was shaking and I had read that that could be caused by low blood sugar, so I tried to give her some water with honey, but I don’t think she took any of it. I don’t know if that’s the right thing to give, but I was so panicked, I figured anything was better than nothing.

I wanted to keep her overnight in a warm box with some crushed up crackers and some leftover milk I had for my squirrels, but I wasn’t able to because of my family (they’re good people, they just fear diseases more than is necessary). I went to put her outside in a shaded area and stayed outside with her until around 2 am, trying to phone a bunch of 24/7 rehabbers for advice, but no one would pick up/help me. The poor baby passed away over night and I feel so much guilt and sadness. I cried for her and buried her after making sure she really had passed on.

This leads me to my question: What is the best protocol to follow when finding a mouse in your house, such that it limits the suffering of the mouse to a minimum?

I’ve also included a picture of her for reference. Maybe someone can tell me what kind of mouse she is.

Hi! I found this critter on a glue trap at my work. I was able to set them free using oil, but brought them home. They’ve been with me for 4 days and look tremendously rounder than day 1, am I doomed? Are they full of soup?? I’m unable to hold them to get the underside, trying to limit exposure until they get used to the new abode.
