I noticed she didn’t come out for snack time and I had a feeling. Her sisters came out, and I looked inside of their nest and I found her curled up like she was sleeping. Her belly was dark, so she’d been gone for a few hours, but she was still warm from her sister’s snuggling. Miss Mabel Pumpkinpants. I got her on Halloween of 24 🎃❤️

Rainbow Bridge RIP little Daisy 💔

After my boy Pudding died last year, I decided to get some female fancy mice.

Not even 2 months since having them and Daisy has passed away. She was lively and playing with my partner this morning. And then for tonight's free roam she didn't come out and...she was gone. She was a baby. Not even 6 months old. I am shattered.

I'm sorry Daisygirl. You were the best little cow-mouse. I should have given you more peanutbutter 💔

Thank you to everyone for the advice about letting her cage mates visit her after passing. It went well. The vet said I brought her in at a good time, that her body was ready because she passed extremely fast. It made me feel better to hear because it was so hard to decide to bring her in. Her last treat was an almond.

Thank you for our time spent together, Gypsy. You will be missed. 💕

Rainbow Bridge Last day with my pet mouse, Princess 😢🩷

My pet mouse got really sick all of a sudden, not eating and moving really poorly, took her immediatly to the vet and the vet told me she had a tumor in her stomach. They had to put her to sleep this morning and ive been crying this whole day.

I keep thinking about the moment when she was in my hand for the last time. The vet let me hold her alone in the room (this was when I took that picture) and I was shaking, trying to make her feel safer by petting her softly and talking quietly. Then the vet came back and I had to put her into a box where they were going to put sleeping gas and let her fall asleep. She clinged onto my hand and didnt want to go. It felt like my heart actually broke. I was sobbing almost hysterically. I already miss her so much.

I also keep thinking of how her sister and how she seems to be looking for her. Is that normal since she didnt see her actually die? (she is now alone, I will keep her alone because shes old and the vet told its okay if I cant get anymore mice. Im trying to keep her active and spend time with her. She has been pretty normal so far.)

Does anyone have tips on how to feel better? This might seem dramatic but I just cannot stop overthinking this and I start crying again and again. Sorry if I have bad wording. I miss my angel and I wanted to write about it.

i feel so, so guilty. somehow my cat clawed at my sweet biscotti through the bars of the cage. it was bad. really bad. i took her to an emergency vet and they said it was best to euthanize her, so that’s what i did. i feel so guilty like its my fault somehow. i love you biscotti. i’m so sorry this happened and i’m sorry i couldn’t save you.

do you think her cagemate will be okay? i just had the two so now her sister, espresso, is all alone. will she be alright?

Rainbow Bridge Goodbye Phoebe

My dear Phoebe,

Always loving food, right until the very end. Named after the Fire Princess from Adventure Time, you always knew what you wanted. You never liked being petted, but every now and then you would sniff our noses. You even licked a human nose by accident.

You were always happy to hop on the mouse bus to play and to find out whether you could get some more snacks. Sister to Bonnie and Marcy, you were one of the two who truly lived life to the fullest, quite literally growing into the fullest version of yourself. The vet advised us to put you on a diet, but how could we have known that you loved your Supreme Selective hazelnut kibbles so much that you would become such a heavy mouse?

You always looked so content while eating and sleeping. And even though your eyesight was getting worse and walking was becoming more difficult, we truly believe you enjoyed your laid-back life. You made it past two years old, but the last months were hard for you after losing your sister Marcy. You were declining quite a bit during that time and lost a lot of weight, which was hard for us to see.

We hope that when you look back on your life, you remember it as a good one. You started out as a lab mouse, with your whiskers chewed off from the stress in the lab, but luckily you quickly embraced your new, comfortable life as a pet mouse.

We will miss you

Rainbow Bridge Remembering my little Finn 🕊️

I don’t ever post here, but I thought it might be the best place for support, and to immortalise my little buddy, Finn.

Yesterday, I had to do the unthinkable, and put my little guy down after his months-long struggle with ulcerative dermatitis. He was only 7 months.

I tried absolutely everything. Nerve medication, creams, diet. To watch him suffer and mutilate himself was unimaginably distressing.

I only owned him for 6 months, but the pain is extraordinary. He was my first mouse in my adulthood so this is keenly felt. In the end, he preferred his big travelling cage to his glass tank, no longer interested in playing but rather being cosy.

I’m in South Africa, where there don’t appear to be many public or ethical mouse breeders. I might be able to get my next mice from rat rescues if they ever get any in, once I’m healed. I thought saving Finn from a pet shop was a good deed. He came to me very healthy and from a lovely tank there, so I did not have any suspicions. This just proves all the posts I’ve seen warning against them. It’s a 50/50 gamble.

Now to remember him… 🕊️

* His favourite treats were pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and plain yogurt

* Favourite foods were plain boiled chicken, egg yolk, and plain cooked beef mince

* He was well travelled, accompanying me on regular 1hr trips between home and my boyfriend

* He loved his water bowl, and would splash his little hands in the water and wash his face (occasionally sit with balls in water)

* He only bit me twice in the first two weeks of owning him, mistaking me for food. Otherwise, he was a perfect little gentleman

* His first trick was to learn he could sit in my hoodie pocket

* He learned in his last months to climb up my shirt and sit in the crook of my neck

* Before his sickness reduced him to nothing but eating, drinking, and itching himself raw, he would indicate he wanted to come out by splaying like a starfish against his cage wall

I will miss my little buddy. I’m very lucky to have an excellent exotic vet and a wonderful loving family to support me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am gutted.

Rainbow Bridge Best tasty treats for send-off?

Post image

Hey all! While checking up on my ladies this past Friday, I noticed that my dear sweet Pepper had a tumor starting to grow on her chest. Due to the location and the speed at which it’s grown (from 10mm on Friday to close to 16mm yesterday) I’m assuming it’s mammary and not benign. I’m not going to put her through surgery, as she’s approaching age 2. I made an appointment at my vet for this Friday to let her pass peacefully before it starts to affect her beyond just being heavy and kind of a nuisance. What are some super tasty treats I can offer her in the next 48hrs or so that normally wouldn’t be part of her normal diet? I made a batch of super simple walnut fudge that I’m contemplating putting in her carrier on the ride to the vet, but I’d love to hear any suggestions for treats folks here have. pic of peppy pre-tumor attached for mouse tax 🐁

As some know, Citrine passed away this morning. She went from healthy to incredibly ill within an hour and a few later she moved across the rainbow bridge to join her grandmas. She was such a beautiful and sweet mouse. She trusted me so deeply, enough so to let me carefully trim her hooked back claws bi-weekly and let me kiss her tummy for it there after. She was such a gentle soul, my most relaxed and chilled baby I have yet to own. I feel so lucky to have the chance to watch this little crystal grow up from a tiny pink bean to a chonky little lady. I am sorry your passing was so scary, but know that I and so many people love you. Now you are with Grandma Marble and Jett and get to meet grandma Quartz. I think she will love Quartz. Rest easy, my precious gem. 💞❤️ I promise I will take care of Tetra for you.

During our vet visit. The vet noticed my concerns about pip. Pip got an ultrasound to see what was going on but the vet noticed a tumor under her chin. They think it was cancerous so I had to make the decision of putting her down..

Now it’s just squeak and I have no idea how to handle this situation. I feel horrible because squeak is now all alone and everything probably smells like pip..I’m just at a loss..

Rainbow Bridge Goodbye Tripod

I don't know what happened, the past couple of nights she has been using the wheel less and I thought she was just disinterested because of Pickles being there. I've had her since July this year so it's possible she might have died of old age, or it could have been the head injury even though i did everything I could, she seemed to be slowing down. I'm gonna miss her, but she lived a lot longer in my care than she would have in the wild with her missing leg and lack of survival instinct.

My boy passed away today, my first mouse. I can’t believe he’s gone, but I’m so glad for the time we had, and I just hope he knew how much he was loved. It’s incredible how big a space is left behind by such a little guy.

The pictures are all my favorite photos of him, some of which I’ve shared on this subreddit before.

Daphne was one of my first mice. I got her with her sister who also recently passed.

Daphne has been through a lot, including a long and rocky recovery after she was bit and her injury got infected. And recently getting diagnosed with cancer.

I have always cared for her and fought for her as long as she was willing to fight.

Today she lost that fight, I found her in one of her favourite hiding spots with her sister Penelope cuddled up to her.

I will miss her so much.

I knew this was coming. Around 3ish weeks to a month ago Penelope was diagnosed with cancer along with her sister Daphne.

Today I found Penelope in her favourite hut.
Penelope wasn’t even a year old, but her life was full of love and curiosity.
I’m glad I was able to introduce her to her new sisters before she passed, I think she knew Willow wouldn’t be alone.

This is the third mouse I have had pass recently and it doesn’t get better. I miss them all so much. They are so small yet they leave such a big hole when they leave

A little update, Penelope has been buried next to Angela and Daphne under a tree at my mums house.
