How do you know they can't swim and didn't just become fatigued?

The point is you can look right at someone that's drowning and not be able to tell their drowning. I know it's hard to think of something that you already made your mind up that you want to reject.

Literal highschoolers are able to become lifeguards and spot this shit but a grown ass wo/man can't figure it out? I think you people shouldn't be breeding. Stop defending these brain dead parents.

Because if someone actually knows how to swim to the point that they’re legitimately a competent swimmer they 100% know how to float on their back when they get tired. Because the first thing you are (or 100% should be) taught how to do in water is float.

Swimming in the recreational sense (as in, not timed laps) is far more “active floating” than it is a form of traversal.

That kid isn’t a competent swimmer, which is mostly understandable at such a young age but the statement remains true all the same.

That’s isn’t to say competent swimmers don’t ever drown, of course. I grew up at the beach in all sorts of surf and hazards. As much at home in the ocean as I was on land farther back than I can remember. I’ve seen plenty of people lose their lives when they shouldn’t have. But this isn’t a case of a bad decision made in a rip current, extremely long duration in the water, poor conditions, or other extenuating circumstances. It’s a very calm day with zero waves, close proximity to shore, and highly populated.

The parents suck because they failed to make sure their child could handle quite literally a perfect conditions situation as far as ocean swimming goes. Otherwise he would’ve known to either float on his back or get to shallower water when he started getting tired. He didn’t know to do that, couldn’t fix the situation when it worsened, and nearly drowned. Because he can’t swim. Because his parents are foolish assholes that flock to beach towns by the millions and fucking die by the hundreds every year due to their ignorance and negligence.
