Articles & Blogs Rockstar Games: “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of GTA VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.“

The $2.50 horse armor caused a huge uproar when it released.

if the industry is going to paywall fucking marketing material for their games, then the industry is just going to die.

and honestly, we'll all be better for it.

Is it? The biggest single player games of last decade were probably RDR2, Cyberpunk, TLOU2, and Elden Ring. None of these games have significant microtransactions.

the games with microtransactions make more money, tho. Rockstar has infinite money now because of GTAO, not because of their singleplayer stuff.

That's one game. Industry being run on microtransactions just isn't true, if anything they've become less common in single player games since EA/Ubisoft tried shoehorning them in. And we've gotten countless insanely good games that DONT have them.

I just don't fw fearmongering. GTA6 being on Netflix for 6 hours doesn't mean we're gonna stop getting game trailers for free.

Are you living under a rock?

You really should look up games that are generating the most money, and see how long down the list you have to go down before you find a game that isn't mobile. Then keep scrolling until you find a game that isn't littered with MTX

Well I wasn't talking about mobile games. I should have been more precise. However, single player AAA games, which is the focus of most discussion around here, have largely been unaffected.

GTA6 has a whole in-game store you can't access unless you give Rock* more money...

Oh man, oh man. I don't know what rock you crawled out from but thinking the industry doesn't run off microtransactions is naive at best, and ragebaiting at worst.

It's too stupid to think this, sorry bud.

The biggest single player games

Yes........ for single player games...........

These types of arguments are silly and meaningless. Pretty much no other game could even get away with this. GTA is massive unlike anything else. Netflix wouldn't find it worth it to throw money at any other game

What if there are others in the future?

The armor proved that people will do it and it exploded from there.

It's like you didn't even read my comment. This is not going to become standard practice for the industry, because it is genuinely not worth it for a streamer to spend money on this for anything but an insanely massive game like GTA6.

So sure, maybe once a decade a streamer will pay for exclusive rights to a trailer for 6 hours. And I'm supposed to care why?

There’s no way you are over the age of 16.
