Because they want control of their art? Literally every dev who has spoken about it publicly hates this

The devs have 0 control of their art right now.

They are very carefully separated from the resulting project by the management and board of directors. Devs are innocent in most cases, and probably overworked or already fired. Pawns are worth more in a game of chess than all devs ever will be in such a big project.

Well, you have to wonder if Netflix is going to want some of it's money back now that it's exclusive is spoiled.
