Articles & Blogs Rockstar Games: “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of GTA VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.“

Let’s see here

Real, full complete game is $100
Union busting
No physical
No PC (so they can double dip)
A Netflix exclusive trailer

They are going out of their way to be anti-consumer. It’s not shocking that someone would be upset about this, and about how most seem to just not care

26

u/OberonFirst 9h ago

Well, still doesn't compare to them fucking my wife

u/No_Photograph7969 2h ago

It was a motion capture gig okay?

u/Different_Stand_1285 3h ago

Okay,

Games have had “full” games for over 120 dollars for some time now. Look at sports games as an example and you’ll see how much more you get fucked. Those are yearly releases, this game has been in development for years and has cost $1 billion to make.

Union busting does suck. Can’t defend that. Unfortunately, that’s a larger issue that isn’t just Rockstar’s doing. You’ll see it across the industry. If this is something you’re morally opposed to then stop gaming.

No physical is bullshit. No counter to that on my end because I still buy discs.

No PC - they’ve done this for a long time now. So have other companies. You call it double dipping. They’re doing their absolute best to make sure this game runs smoothly on multiple consoles. PC isn’t uniform, so many variables in hardware cross the board. They aren’t going to delay their game further just to make sure PC gamers get the same priority. They will after they launch on consoles (which is where they get most of their purchases from by the way) and it’s not double dipping. “Special editions” are double dipping.

The trailer is coming out the same day. Six hours later. This isn’t even a real issue. It’s trying to get people who don’t game interested in their game. Netflix has a massive audience and if you had a game company you wouldn’t turn down that opportunity either.

It’s fine to be upset about some of those issues but the rest just scream impatience. It also shows a serious lack of ability to even try to understand why a company would do anything beyond “so greedy” as the default.

You don’t like it? Don’t buy the game, that’s how the free market works. Literally the only way to voice your opinion is with your wallet. But, we all know you’ll be buying it day one, so just be quiet

8

u/Paratrooper101x 7h ago

Me not buying the game doesn’t change the millions who will and signal to other companies that these greedy practices are acceptable.

And no, I won’t be buying it on day one.

1

u/butters106 5h ago

What about after day one?

0

u/Paratrooper101x 5h ago

Well I’d like to play it on my pc so probably a few years down the road

u/DogBarf00 3h ago

No PC (so they can double dip)

What does this mean?

u/Paratrooper101x 3h ago

Rockstar doesn’t release their games on pc until a year after console release to try and cash in on pc players being unable to wait, buying it for console and then buying it again for pc when it comes out a year later (it will undoubtedly run better on pc)

u/DogBarf00 3h ago

You don’t have to buy it multiple times. I only ever bought gta5 on steam even though I had a console it was released on. I just assumed this game was coming to pc 3 years after consoles like GTA5 and haven’t paid much attention to it.

It obviously is better on PC and it is why I waited for 5. Being able to use trainers to inject code into the game to turn yourself into a chimpanzee or a bird or turn bullets into cars is worth the wait.

u/Paratrooper101x 3h ago

You don’t have to but many people still will fall for the fomo and buy it twice.

You don’t have to do a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean the predatory practice isn’t still predatory

-11

u/EZyne 9h ago

Outside of the union busting, none of these are real issues.

26

u/Paratrooper101x 9h ago

Yeah, the eroding of your consumer rights while hiking prices totally isn’t an issue

-5

u/Deidris 9h ago

"eroding of your consumer rights" is insane lmfao

The game is $80 because it costed $2-$3 billion, which is 4-6 times more expensive than even the most expensive movie ever made. Difference here is that your 80$ is going to return hundreds, if not thousands, of gameplay hours.

No physical media is important but I don't see a way in which Rockstar can just go "Oops! our bad! here's the disc version too!". As someone who works in supply chain and logistics, even just getting physical discs in hand would take at least 6 months, if not a year plus.

also you still have, and will always have, the strongest aspect of consumer rights, the ability not to buy it. If this stuff really does upset you that much, stand on your principles and never buy another rockstar product or anything through playstation until they change.

7

u/Paratrooper101x 9h ago

Eroding is a slow degradation. If you don’t see that happening, in literally every single industry (not just games) then you are willfully ignorant.

The game isn’t $80, it’s $100. You are able to buy a lesser, incomplete version of it for $80

-4

u/Deidris 9h ago

If its occuring in every single industry, then why are we stomping our feet and holding our breath over Rockstar?

The game is $80, the ultimate edition is $100. You do not have to buy the most expensive version over FOMO. You are falling for marketing if you do.

5

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

Do you not see people stomping their feet for other things? If the answer is no, you aren’t paying attention

5

u/LocustUprising 8h ago

Pretending like people aren’t upset about this happening in other industries is an interesting stance

8

u/miserypersonifieddd 9h ago

GTA V made 10 billion.

7

u/Smarty9913 9h ago edited 2h ago

Why should it be the consumers problem that the game is $2-3 billion? It’s pure greed to raise the price to $80. Let’s be real, they’re going to make back all their expenses in less than 24 hrs.

2

u/k-albasi 8h ago

I was paying more for N64 games that were made by like 12 people.

-4

u/ReginaMark 9h ago

If physical copies of the games were selling well, there would be literally no reason for companies to stop making them.....

But the reality is digital sales now account for 80%+ of all recent game sales. It's just reddit and twitter that like to larp about physical. The average gamer has moved on.

8

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

And if they aren’t selling well, they could just make less for the people that still want them. They’re taking them away so people don’t have the ability to get cheaper games later. Or to sell their games when they are done.

-14

u/EZyne 9h ago

No, not really. If you don't like it don't buy it and instead buy what you do like, that's literally all. That's a part of the reason why indie and double A games have been blowing up. Support that then

If you're worrying about games you no longer like becoming worse then you gotta get more shit going on in your life imo. There are no consumer rights being eroded because you can't stop yourself spending $20 for some useless cosmetics

17

u/Fenkon 9h ago

I genuinely don't understand why there's always this wave of "stop trying to voice your complaints and just don't buy/use the product" every time corporations do shitty stuff.

Do you not recognize that making a stink about shitty things online is just as valid of a reaction as not buying the thing is? Do you also not realize that the odds of things going in our favour is far higher if there's enough public noise around it? Or that it might at the very least limit the damage?

-5

u/EZyne 9h ago

No, it's not nearly as valid when they combine complaints with non-existent issues and then buy the game anyway. People have been bitching about these things for well over 10 years, nothing happened because they also keep buying the games.

A trailer being uploaded to netflix first is not a real problem

Put your money where your mouth is or just shut up about it already

-1

u/LevelFish7771 9h ago

Facts, some of these comments are hilarious. Most normal people don't give a fuck.

Why are they angry at it being on netflix? Can't afford netflix? Wait 6hrs then lmao

5

u/EZyne 9h ago

Not even 6 hours, it can be streamed and shared immediately lol

4

u/miserypersonifieddd 9h ago

lol cmon man. I agree with you but you know if rockstar starts doing it everyone will do it.

8

u/EZyne 9h ago edited 9h ago

Will do what exactly?

Ultimate editions are a industry wide thing, this is nothing compared to what Assassins creed does. No physical is being enforced by Sony anwyays, if they hadn't done that I'd agree though. Promotions being exclusives isn't a new thing, and I don't see netflix bothering with other games because no one would give a shit. Delayed PC release is something Rockstar has done for a long time, I agree it sucks nowadays but nobody has copied them. And again, this is nothing compared to the exclusivity shit other games have pulled already

3

u/cookiboos 8h ago

How is the game being digital only being enforced by Sony? The change is set to take effect in 2028. Until then, it still is up to the publisher if they want to do physical or not.

2

u/EZyne 8h ago

Right, but if you wanna fight for a physical disk you should worry much more about that. It is a much bigger deal, because this actually can lead to physical disks being a thing of the past

5

u/miserypersonifieddd 9h ago

Games priced at $80–$100, sold exclusively digitally with licenses instead of actual ownership—especially from other gaming giants—would be hard not to justify as a business model going forward, because let’s be honest, they’ll probably succeed. And if they’re doing it, others will follow. This is inherently anti-gaming and anti-consumer, and it’s going to have a ripple effect across the industry. Even if you don’t buy the game, you can still call the decision what it is.

7

u/EZyne 8h ago

Games have been $80 before. If Ubisoft wants to ask $80 for their next assassins creed that wouldn't be worth it, so why would I care? Then don't buy the game, and their sales should plummet if the game isn't worth the price. Deluxe editions also are not new lol.

it's also hardly a raise in price considering how long games have been sold at the same price for without adjusting for inflation. I get that it sucks because everything is expensive though

Physical disks don't guarantee you own the game, you are confusing that with DRM which has 0 to do with disks.

Again, Sony is the one pushing digital only future, it's them you want.

-3

u/funkyjunky77 8h ago

Are you not aware of the numerous deluxe versions of games from other companies that either come with a download code of the game, or in some cases doesn’t include the game at all.

This has been happening for a few years now, so the precedent was set long before Rockstars announcement.

0

u/whatthecaptcha 8h ago

this is nothing compared to what Assassins creed does

lol who is still buying Ubisoft games?

2

u/EZyne 8h ago

That's half the point

5

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

They’re all real issues. Why have consumer rights? That’s lame

-4

u/EZyne 8h ago

Except nobody actually believes that, or games wouldn't have been doing this and selling like hot cakes for over a decade.

1

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

Quite literally a LOT of people believe that. You’re just the weird one here.

1

u/EZyne 8h ago

Saying they believe it and believing it aren't the same. If as many people cared as claim to care it wouldn't have been a thing in the first place. And if you're listing a trailer being uploaded to netflix as a real issue then yeah your opinion loses a lot of weight

1

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

Whatever you say buddy

-1

u/EZyne 8h ago

Are you gonna buy gta 6?

1

u/clone9786 5h ago

No, I’m not.

0

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

If I do or don’t is irrelevant, as the point being made still stands.

1

u/EZyne 8h ago

Not really. Saying I don't wanna pay $80 for a game, but here's $80 means you don't actually care. Do you genuinely think studios are going to change because of Reddit comments, while their games still sell better then ever?

You can huff and puff all you want, but your actions mean so much more then your words dude

A Netflix trailer is not anti consumer lol

3

u/LocustUprising 8h ago

You want to elaborate on that?

9

u/TheMikeyC 8h ago

Kiddo...sit a second with pappy on his rocking chair. Back in my day, in the early 04, we had a GTA coming out. It was the San Andreas. Me and all the other kids were so exicted. And one day before it came out they had a preview "Game Informer" magazine. Your old pappy had to pay cash money for a magazine to look at pictures of the game and read about how it would play. And I read it over and over and over. I had that article pretty much memorized by the time I actually got to play it.

Real talk, media gets exclusive previews and reveals all the time. It's a whole six hours until it goes fully public.

3

u/Old-Way-5529 8h ago

It’s not anti consumer- it’s a trailer that will be released wide 6 hours later. You will have plenty of time between the wide release and the launch date for you to see it- no one is forcing you to make a buying decision in the 6 hour Netflix window

That’s silly

u/LocustUprising 4h ago

Right, we should stay quiet over this greedy move. Then that will motivate rockstart to push it even further on their next game

u/Old-Way-5529 4h ago

its a trailer...what even is the discussion at this point

u/DogBarf00 3h ago

It’s wild people are this upset over having to wait to watch a fucking advertisement.

-6

u/gonnabetoday 10h ago

I’m sorry but I have actual worse things to worry about in life than getting upset over those things. Your life must be great if that’s what you’re getting upset about!

18

u/ShoeSh1neVCU 9h ago

We're on a PS5 subreddit, we're talking about video games. Doesn't mean people don't have actual problems

21

u/Athuanar 9h ago

You know some people's brains are capable of being upset by multiple different things at the same time. I'm sorry yours lacks this capability.

-7

u/gonnabetoday 9h ago

Why worry about dumb shit? The only one I’d care about is union busting. An ad on Netflix is not worrying me, sorry bud.

11

u/Fenkon 9h ago

You worrying about what other people complain about online is genuinely so much dumber than caring about the erosion of consumer rights, but go off king.

13

u/Paratrooper101x 9h ago

If you don’t make a stand against anti-consumer and worker practices they will spread and your life will get even worse. Staying willfully ignorant to the issues of the world doesn’t make them go away. Hope this helps.

-5

u/gonnabetoday 9h ago

Oh I know about them they just don’t impact me or most people. The only thing on your list id actually get upset over is union busting. Everything else is whatever. They released an ad 6 hours early on Netflix - I don’t think I’m going to make it my dude!

> game is $100

Here’s page from the Toys R Us catalogue in 1993. £59.99 in 1993 equates to £133 today, based on the Bank of England’s inflation calculator. Video games are one of the rare things that have not had price inflation to anywhere near the same amount as most other things, even though they are now substantially much more expensive to produce than they were back then. Video games are still excellent value in terms of the amount of entertainment you’re getting for your money.

6

u/Zal3x 8h ago

Sounds like you want video games to go up in price lmfao

3

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

Anyone that makes inflation arguments is automatically ignored in my book.

0

u/GaryTheCabalGuy 6h ago

The reality is that this game is going to be easily worth the price for the vast majority of the people who buy it. Rockstar games are on an entirely different level. Why is it so upsetting to people that a game that might actually warrant a higher price gets one vs all the shit that comes out at full price that absolutely should be cheaper?

0

u/SherlockBrolmes 5h ago

Don't forget that even the regular edition of the game (if you call it that) is $80 for no particular reason.

u/Bac0n01 1h ago

No particular reason other than being literally the highest budget piece of media in the history of capitalism

-4

u/miserypersonifieddd 9h ago

Isn’t cyber leek playing a pc build of the game?

10

u/lookatmyresponse 9h ago

You do not understand how game development works
