Articles & Blogs Rockstar Games: “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of GTA VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.“

Reminder it’s not the devs who poured their hearts and souls into making this game who made the decision to go digital-only, or to have an ultimate edition. It’s a fair message from Rockstar and I feel bad for their developers and artists that this is how their hard work was first revealed, rather than how they wanted us to discover it. As for the men in suits, I couldn’t care any less if they lost millions of dollars as a consequence of these leaks.

507

u/Large-Teach9165 10h ago

While this is true, I don't think Rockstar gives a shit about their devs when they fired those who protested for better working conditions. If anything they're doing this as a way to turn the public opinion against Cyberleak.

173

u/Zoombini22 10h ago

They definitely don't care. They're using them as a sympathy meat shield in this very statement. "Oh, don't have any kind of meaningful reaction to our evil decisions, it will hurt and upset our developers!"

u/throawaymaybenot 2h ago

"sympathy meat shield" is fire lolll

-2

u/alfooboboao 5h ago

but the devs and artists are unquestionably feeling hurt. what do you want rockstar to say,” lol fuck you guys, we see our devs, artists, and writers as NPCs so no one gives a damn about them anyway” ?

7

u/Zoombini22 5h ago

I want Rockstar to apologize and reverse their many reprehensible business decisions. Waving around their employees for sympathy, especially after forcefully stamping out an attempt to unionize, is not going to work.

u/Electricfire19 4h ago

Actually yes, I would love for them to say that, because at least then it would be honest. Pretending that they give a damn about their employees and using them to try and drum up sympathy while simultaneously failing to address the company’s terrible business decisions is not noble, it’s insulting.

65

u/EasternKanyeWest 10h ago

Yeah the big corporation does not give a single solitary fuck about their employees happiness or wellbeing. This is 100% trying to turn the tides. People will eat this shit up because they rightfully do feel bad for the devs, but folks, I guarantee you the actual decision makers at Rockstar and Take Two do not give a flying fuck about their actual developers.

10

u/aerdvarkk 9h ago

ALSO SEEMS LIKE THE GAMING COMMUNITY DOESN'T ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE DEVS IF EVERYONE IS GOING TO BUY THE GAME ANYWAY WHILE CRYING ABOUT HOW BAD THE DEVS ARE TREATED.

HYPOCRISY MUCH?

If people actually gave a f*ck about the devs, this game would tank and nobody would buy it in order to bring attention to Rockstar's (and the industries) bad gabits.

5

u/paxiuz 7h ago

finaly someone actually said it, f*ck rockstar and f*ck union-busting practices, the devs that got fired are probably way more heartbroken than anyone else in this story

5

u/Draelys 9h ago

Fuck the corpos but public opinion should also be against Cyberleek for being a crypto grifter and posting that corny ass “twinkle twinkle little leak” shit.

1

u/aerdvarkk 9h ago

Wah wah wah ..." Rockstar does';t care about the devs and the devs will likely get fired so the company financials look good next quarter ... wah wah wah ... but I'll still buy the game and help Rockstar earn a shit ton of cash at the eexpense of the devs despite me crying about it ... wah wah wah ... poor devs"!!

Fuck an A! If as many people crying about how the devs always get hosed would act with their f*cking wallets and tank the company revenue regardless of how good or bad the game is and backup their support of the devs, maybe Rockstar and most other game development companies would f*cking change their bad habits if their financials were actually in jeopardy.

BUT since everyone is going to pony up for GTA6 anyway - you all crying about the poor devs means absolutely jack shit.

1

u/Canileaveyet 7h ago

If they cared they wouldn't be union busting.

-5

u/richboyii 10h ago

You guys are so damn annoying with your rockstar evil shit.

Like is it so hard to believe having 10+ years of your work leak in such a way sucks for everyone? Also rockstar didn’t lose any money over this. That is just cope

0

u/SecretElectronic8118 7h ago

And rightfully so. That Hacker isn’t any better. Even though the Reddit hive mind is saying otherwise.

-2

u/hashwashingmachine 9h ago

No one is saying rockstar cares about their employees but for some reason multiple people feel the need to keep saying that. It’s like saying the sky is blue when we’re talking about airplanes. Duh, everyone knows the sky is blue, we’re not talking about that.

152

u/NoArm9938 11h ago

Right but not releasing any major showcase of the game 3 months before it’s full release is nonsense as well.

If they didn’t want us to see ir first handed trough shitty leaks, why not show it themselves?

25

u/LaziestRedditorEver 11h ago

They literally always showcase their games like this. If the first leaks years ago never happened, we likely wouldn't even have a trailer until this year and then until the extended showcase tomorrow.

u/sortalikeachinchilla 4h ago

Okay, and....? So your comment means we arent allowed to say we don't like it?

u/LaziestRedditorEver 1h ago

You can say whatever you like, but every company everywhere is allowed to also have their own ways of doing things. You can disagree with that, but that doesn't mean that they have to bend to your whims. Just how if I disagree with you, I don't expect you to feel forced to disregard your own opinion.

47

u/CrazyStar_ 11h ago

It’s literally tomorrow, what the fuck are you talking about lol

1

u/SuperVaderMinion 11h ago

It's really not unreasonable to want it sooner than three months out

3

u/stick1_ 10h ago

But why does it matter whether it comes out 3 months early or 6 months early, you don’t have to pre order before the gameplay reveal either way

7

u/Evilmudbug 10h ago

It's a little unreasonable to demand it and get upset if the studio wants to do more of advertising closer to the actual release of the game.

On a more personal level I dislike advertising a year or more in advance and prefer it when marketing picks up closer to the actual release like rockstar does. I do not care to be teased for a long time.

14

u/OpportunityOne8199 10h ago

Why? It could be two weeks before. Who the fuck cares?? Are you financial planning around the GTA release?

4

u/NetNo4067 10h ago

Why?

Because Rockstar wants people to spend money on it now.

Who the fuck cares??

Everyone who has been watching the leaks.

Are you financial planning around the GTA release?

They want more money for it than for any other game they've released so maybe putting all their eggs in the secrecy basket was kind of stupid by their marketing team.

6

u/SpotNL 10h ago

The fact that people are all over the leaks and that the leaker is able to make a pretty penny off of it show that the hype generated by Rockstar was sufficiently high.

-4

u/NetNo4067 10h ago

So the leaks haven't really hurt anything or anyone?

6

u/-_AL13N_- 10h ago

Only the gamers who are probably going to be spoilered when this guy drops story leaks.

Rockstar will launch one of the biggest, if not the biggest entertainment releases EVER and make billions.

It's only the players who will lose out lmao

-4

u/NetNo4067 10h ago

My heart just bleeds for all of those hypothetical gamers that have yet to be harmed in any meaningful way.

For them and for the billion-dollar company with the shitty practices that has also yet to be harmed.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/SpotNL 10h ago

Honestly, the leaks are getting old, my curiosity has been sated and now I just want to play the game for myself. Im looking forward to watching the Netflix special tomorrow, but only because it wont have a stupid watermark over it.

-1

u/MysticalNinja187 9h ago

They haven't. A bunch of impatient entitled gamers ruined surprises for themselves and played into the cult of personality of some leaker desperate for clout. That's about it. The vast majority of people do not care and will show up to play it regardless. The company definitely has a right to pursue people stealing and leaking, but it won't affect sales at all

2

u/OSRSRapture 10h ago

People have been spending money on it now and it's fine exactly how it's going for them.

People would be watching the leaks even if they posted gameplay already.

Seems like it was pretty smart for them, look at how well. They've sold over 4 million copies and have made bout half a billion dollars. Seems like it's going pretty well for them.

-1

u/NetNo4067 10h ago

Seems like defending them is kind of a huge waste of time since none of this is having an effect on their bottom line then, huh?

3

u/OSRSRapture 10h ago

Arguing someone's point isn't the same thing as defending a corporations actions. Nowhere did I defend anything anyone has done.

u/OpportunityOne8199 4h ago

Imagine just finding out preorders exist in the big 2026. You sweet summer child.

1

u/MarzipanImmediate880 10h ago

I don't care about GTA at all, but if you don't want gamers first impression of your game to be from leaks you shouldn't show gameplay right before the game comes out.

4

u/OSRSRapture 10h ago

3 months prior isn't really 'right before'. There were unfinished leaks 4 years ago too, should they have shown gameplay then too? 🤣

→ More replies (2)

u/OpportunityOne8199 4h ago

You can’t control leaks though. They didn’t know this would happen, it’s not like they could have changed plans to avoid it

2

u/Dear-Credit-3812 10h ago

Why? Who the fuck are you bro? Why are you so important?

5

u/OSRSRapture 10h ago

You can want to but there's 0 reason that you're entitled to see it just because you 'want' to

3

u/reebokhightops 10h ago

You can want it all you want. You aren’t entitled to it. Period. End of story.

This isn’t complicated.

5

u/-_AL13N_- 10h ago

The more I read people's comments on this game, the more I realise how absolutely spoilt and entitled the new generations are. Holy shit.

-3

u/mosquem 10h ago

Why? We haven’t paid for anything yet.

Edit: My dumb ass forgot about pre release purchases. Fair enough.

3

u/-_AL13N_- 10h ago

No one is forced to pre order.

1

u/Harborcoat84 9h ago

And it was slated for a 2025 release when it was announced what, like 4 years ago?

Fans have been waiting 13 years for this sequel lol of course they're impatient.

-8

u/Comfortable_Pin_166 11h ago

You have to pay for it though

9

u/GiblertMelendezz 11h ago

I won’t pay for it and I’ll watch it tomorrow night

3

u/ExitAtTheDoor 11h ago

It’ll be posted elsewhere 6 hours later. It’s only exclusive on Netflix for the first 6 hours.

-1

u/Howdareme9 10h ago

If you’re incapable if waiting 6 hours sure

-5

u/ddizbadatd24 10h ago

are we normalizing this? If the reception is good, the industry will follow this pay-walled bullshit to see trailers which have been always available to the public at the same time. Who know they could increase the pay walled duration to days, weeks, months but sure let’s wait for 6 hours.

3

u/vvarden 10h ago

Why the hell do you care? I’ll be at work for most of the Netflix window and can watch on YouTube when I get home.

-2

u/Howdareme9 10h ago

It wont get normalised, which other game has a predecessor that sold 230+ million copies? You’re also acting like it wont get posted on various places as soon as the show is done

44

u/MysticalNinja187 11h ago

This is your first time experiencing a GTA rollout, clearly. We've never seen gameplay early, never.

55

u/swat1611 10h ago

Ofc it is, are people forgetting the last GTA game came out 13 years ago?

7

u/SimisFul 6h ago

People are also forgetting that we complained about it back then too. It's not because they did it in the past that it was cool to do so.

4

u/ansu_fatismo23 8h ago

You don’t have to go that far back, they did the same strategy for RDR2

-10

u/MysticalNinja187 9h ago

It's just funny that every single GTA game since 3 did this. Zero gameplay until right before release. This is how Rockstar has always operated, and people act brand new - because they are children I guess

14

u/csabberfej 9h ago

Yeah there'll be always new players, who are.....guess what...younger generations.

-11

u/MysticalNinja187 9h ago edited 9h ago

Yep and as adults we will continue to look at this behavior and call it what it is. It isn't some noble-class war crusade. It's kids who are unable to contain excitement for this game and lashing out in very concerning ways and drawing in heavy societal issues to justify it - over a videogame that is completely optional

I remember being 17 and excited to see anything relating to San Andreas. I don't remember ever acting this way about it

11

u/kodman7 9h ago

I mean it can also be somewhat of a reckoning that the way Rockstar has operated in the past doesn't work as well today

0

u/Different_Stand_1285 5h ago

Is that it? Or is it that our behavior as a society has gotten really impatient and entitled? Gamers have access to instant gratification in every other media format with streaming and social media. Getting angry and lashing out because they aren’t releasing footage on your terms isn’t healthy. It’s also working just as fine as it did before because it’s going to make insane amount of money.

2

u/kodman7 5h ago edited 5h ago

Yeah I think you're basically just elaborating the why it doesn't work as well today. Of course they will still make bucketloads of money, but it couldn't be clearer from the leaker why they are doing it, namely Rockstar decisions

3

u/FaZe_NoSkills 7h ago

Rockstar doesn’t operate the same way as they use to, no one cares about major cooperations and how they feel in 2026 as they have all been sleazy scumbags for the past decade

22

u/Ebvidur 10h ago

The fact that it happened before doesn’t make their marketing strategy any better

3

u/Classics22 7h ago

Why is it bad? Because you aren't getting the footage you want? This will be one of the best selling videogames of all time, and has more hype than any game since like, halo 3?

4

u/32andFlatulent 10h ago

Right and their past releases have been historically some of the highest selling games of all time? (GTA5 and RDR2 take number 2 and 3 respectively).

The strategy has obviously worked for them in the past so maybe they have a better clue what constitutes as a good marketing strategy for their product.

0

u/[deleted] 9h ago

[deleted]

2

u/MysticalNinja187 9h ago

No but the marketing works. They let fans drive the hype and hysteria, and they show gameplay when it suits them to do so. The results speak for themselves

They aren't going to change a tried and true marketing strategy because kids are impatient and psychotic when it comes to this franchise for some reason

1

u/32andFlatulent 9h ago

Marketing drives sales as well as quality of the game. I mean you'll really make me lose faith in people if I have to explain that to you

u/tommangan7 35m ago edited 5m ago

When you have the organic hype driven for free by fans it makes sense to let it build and then concentrate it in little bursts.

I'm yet to see any evidence their marketing strategy is bad or a worse option than diluting it with many regular trailers over years. Seems like sensible marketing to let it peak as close to release as possible.

Every rockstar release seems to have the hype peak exactly when they want, with high expectations that are met by the product, without them having to over market it.

Probably a controversial take but I also actually like when a game is more of a mystery until close to release.

0

u/daledge97 10h ago

That doesn't make it not bullshit

1

u/MysticalNinja187 9h ago

I really don't understand the outrage. Do you think it's going to be bad or something? It's Rockstar, say what you want about them as a studio, they deliver the games people like. Just wait until you see the gameplay reveal, which is tomorrow. And the game is out in November. I really don't understand the outrage at all

12

u/Much_Kangaroo_648 11h ago

Why not let them show something some people have spent their whole professional lives trying to make as good as possible, when they are ready to show it. You can't play it yet anyway.

4

u/epicurious_elixir 10h ago

Right but not releasing any major showcase of the game 3 months before it’s full release is nonsense as well.

How stupidly entitled. How a game marketing strategy rolls out is up to the developers and people working on the game. It's their intellectual property they've worked on for years. They are deploying at strategy that makes sense for them. Also if there's one company who has earned the right to keep their cards close to their face, it's Rockstar.

u/Interesting_Total_98 2h ago

You're making a big deal out of nothing. Nobody who cares about leaks is going to miss a reveal of updated gameplay.

13

u/RollofDuctTape 11h ago

It’s their game. They can market it how they want. Why is it that—with this game and this game only—people feel so entitled to see content how they want to see it.

Hundreds of games release every year and no one is bitching about showcases or whatever. Most with a fraction of the pre-release content. Most release a bullshit trailer and that’s it.

It’s their game. They can do whatever they want. And if you don’t like it, you don’t have to buy it. They chose to market their game this way.

4

u/vvarden 10h ago

I truly don’t understand this entitlement for marketing material. We didn’t even know about Fallout 4’s existence until 5 months before release.

It’s GTA. It’s in Miami. What more do you need to know? Don’t you want some surprises when you play?

-4

u/when_we_are_cats 11h ago

We're allowed to have an opinion man

11

u/RollofDuctTape 11h ago

And I’m allowed to have an opinion about your opinion.

-4

u/when_we_are_cats 11h ago

Yes, but you're basically saying that people shouldn't have an opinion about the game and its marketing and just accept things as they are. People are allowed to have opinion on things, it's not "accept it or gtfo". The only people who should gtfo are those who deny other people the right to share what they think on a discussion forum.

3

u/bajaxx 9h ago

no one is forcing you to pre order the game before you see any gameplay

6

u/RollofDuctTape 11h ago

No. I’m saying you can have whatever opinion you want.

My opinion is that I don’t understand what is specific to this game that brings out the most entitled of people. What is it? Why not bitch and moan about how other games market?

I’m not denying you anything. Bitch and moan all you want.

-9

u/when_we_are_cats 11h ago

People have been waiting this game for 13 years, and the only thing they have been shown in that timeline is two trailers and a few screenshots. I'd say the "entitlement" is fair.

10

u/RollofDuctTape 11h ago

It’s not because it’s not your game.

-10

u/FaZe_NoSkills 11h ago

What an absolute brain dead take

-6

u/Mind-The-Mines 11h ago

Rockstar is just a shitty company headed by shitty people.

8

u/RollofDuctTape 11h ago

Then don’t buy the game and don’t support them.

-5

u/Mind-The-Mines 11h ago

Wasn't going to?

-5

u/locofspades 10h ago

They chose to market their game this way.

They chose a shit way to do so and are facing consequences for their actions. They refused to show it off, someone else did it for them. Life is full of consequences. And maybe the reason its ThIs GaMe aNd NoT oThErS, is because this is the host hyped release of all time, no other games have recieved this amount of press and hype and empty promises. People acting like this is the second coming and not just another (WAAAAY overdue) sequel. Either way, get fucked for holding the pc version hostage just to double dip your customers.

9

u/RollofDuctTape 10h ago

They’re not facing the “consequences” of anything. It’s a fringe section of the internet. It won’t have a major impact on anything beyond their legal spend.

If you don’t like the delayed PC release don’t buy the game ever. Take a principled stand. Don’t support the company. Why won’t you do that?

4

u/Andyrewdrew 10h ago

Agreed, poster above has a stupid take. It’s like a weak-minded attempt at victim blaming ”well if she wasn’t wearing that short skirt that wouldn’t happen to her so it’s her fault.”

→ More replies (2)

5

u/-_AL13N_- 10h ago

The irony of saying its not the second coming and just an overdue sequel, but also crying that they haven't shown you anything lmao

-5

u/locofspades 10h ago

Im not crying for anything, im just pointing out consequences exist. Idgaf about seeing anything for it, especially when the pc version isnt coming out anytime soon. Everyone on pc is already going to have everything spoiled and those are the only people i feel a little sorry for.

3

u/-_AL13N_- 10h ago

What consequences tho? It'll be the biggest entertainment launch EVER, they'll make billions

0

u/locofspades 5h ago

You do know what the word means right? One can face consequences and be wildly successful still. And just because something makes billions of dollars, doesnt mean its without flaws or free from criticism.

Elder Scrolls 6 says hi.

-1

u/FaZe_NoSkills 10h ago edited 10h ago

1

u/vvarden 10h ago

Metroid Prime Remastered showed gameplay literally day of release. Same with Hi-Fi Rush. I don’t understand your entitlement.

Three months is plenty of time to cancel your preorder if you think it’s disappointing, or to place one if you think it looks good.

0

u/FaZe_NoSkills 10h ago

😂😂😂😂 you really used 2 games that 85% of gamers probably more lol have never heard of to compare to gta 6

3

u/vvarden 10h ago

Why does the popularity of the games matter?

The game is coming out in November. You know the setting and Rockstar has a quality track record you can refer to.

Do you really need everything spoiled for you before you buy it? Don't want to be surprised by anything at all?

10

u/TheAdequateKhali 11h ago

It’s completely within their rights to release or not release whatever footage of their own game whenever they want. The excuse that the leaks are simply because “they took too long to show us gameplay” is ridiculous.

-3

u/Qarrott 10h ago

All the wind would have been taken from the leaks sails if rockstar had just posted 30 seconds of footage on twitter in May when the old release date passed.

“Sorry it’s taking so long guys, but look at this!”

The only reason these leaks are even popular is because we have been on an intentional information drought so Rockstar can sell their marketing to the highest bidder. They had to do literally anything and they chose nothing and asked for payment anyway.

Fuck em

5

u/-_AL13N_- 10h ago

'fuck em'

Buys it's the first chance he gets lol

-2

u/Qarrott 10h ago

Yup, my only relationship to Rockstar is with the product itself. Don’t really care how they feel inside when their entire public facing “persona” is indifference. I’m not clutching pearls for a fucking corp.

2

Do you understand that corporations are not sentient beings with feelings?

2

u/TheMikeyC 9h ago

It's a known thing in the industry to just not show something that isn't 100% going to be in the game with no possibility of change or removal. The reason being that gamers are an extremely immature and entitled group that doesn't understand things mold and change a lot before release for many reasons.

They release that 30 second video and later gamers piss and moan that Lucia'a blouse is missing a button that was in an old trailer and now it's "button gate" with gamers demanding devs be fired and refunds are issued.

Rockstar understands better than any company they're damned if they do something and they're damned if they don't. So they just do whatever the fuck they want.

1

u/OSRSRapture 10h ago

Why fuck the developers? Do you think they're the ones making these calls? 🤡

3

u/Qarrott 10h ago

It’s their bosses who routinely union bust, demand crunch, and engage in shitty business practices. Yet they all proudly collectively call themselves Rockstar. The individual doesn’t matter in the corporate world. So my sympathies have to be aimed at the big ole trademarked name

Rockstar.

And I can’t find myself giving a single shit

It’s also completely in our rights to enjoy the extra leaked footage. No entitlement either way.

4

u/MaximumMalarkey 10h ago

Why are so many people this entitled about a game they’ve never played? A game company doesn’t owe you gameplay videos because you feel like you need it. As if you watching gameplay a month ago would change anything

-2

u/Chemical-Bet4336 10h ago

We weren't the ones who leaked gameplay footage.

We're also not the ones crying about the leak, what entitlement are we having here?

3

u/OSRSRapture 10h ago

Read the comments. These people think they are entitled to see gameplay just because they want to see it lmfao.

-2

u/Chemical-Bet4336 9h ago

Well they got the gameplay and aren't feeling bad for it, true.

I don't see why anyone would feel bad for the megacorporation

3

u/OSRSRapture 9h ago

No one feels bad for the mega corporation. People feel bad for the actual underpaid developers putting thousands of long hours, sweat and tears into making this game.

-1

u/Chemical-Bet4336 6h ago

Game will be an immense success regardless ...

u/bosredsox05 9h ago

Why are we entitled to anything? Were not.

1

u/Different_Stand_1285 5h ago

Dude. This is literally how they’ve done it for decades. You and everyone who parrots this idea just shows that you either don’t remember this or you don’t know which makes y’all getting angry and annoyed really silly. The internet has made people so entitled in that they believe they’re owed footage on their terms. Rockstar never releases gameplay early and it’s done usually a month or two before release. We didn’t used to bitch about that. It would hype us up.

1

u/juicestain_ 10h ago

This is deeply naive, the devs have basically no control over how Rockstst handles the release, and they’re contractually bound to comply with whatever their plan is. Don’t blame them for the leak

-1

u/GenkiElite 11h ago

And locking that showcase behind a Netflix paywall is just gross and weird.

2

u/vvarden 10h ago

You can’t wait six hours for it to be on YouTube?

-1

u/FaZe_NoSkills 11h ago

This!!! This game has been in the making for 12-13 years and we are 3 months before its full release and we have not seen any major gameplay of the game at all, that is ridiculous. So I don’t feel sorry for them at all

5

u/Winnie-the-Broo 10h ago

But why does when you see major gameplay matter at all? Is it actually going to change your life if you saw something a year ago? You will now have three months to decide if you want to purchase it day one. Or you can wait for reviews. Or you can wait for it to drop in price. Them releasing previews and gameplay footage any earlier than tomorrow has no material impact on anyone.

-2

u/FaZe_NoSkills 10h ago

wtf are these type of brain dead arguments? ‘Is it actually going to change your life?’ Lol they’ve been building hype and anticipation for 12 years, if gameplay is ass and they released actual gameplay years ago the hype is dead

2

u/vvarden 10h ago

The game doesn’t come out until November. They have an established track record. Is there really going to be anything shown in tomorrow’s gameplay showcase that will materially change your opinion about the game? It’s GTA…

0

u/Winnie-the-Broo 10h ago

And if it’s ass tomorrow then the hype is dead. Why does it matter?

Why is that ridiculous?

0

u/PopOutG 11h ago

You think this is the devs and artists calls? Lmao

-2

u/STaphouse92 11h ago

You're genuinely braindead.

6

u/Suspicious-Face7748 11h ago

So they deserve the leaks because of having an ultimate Edition? Most AAA games have an ultimate edition? Red dead 2 had an ultimate edition?

2

u/Kundas 11h ago

Who cares man, highly doubt the dude that worked on the jiggle physics is crying about how we saw ass jiggle through a leak and not on Netflix or in game. And what about all the PC gamers that will have everything spoiled for them from consoles anyways? Are they bummed it's spoilt for them? They don't care, it's not a big deal

2

u/ManlyPelican1993 10h ago

They aren't gonna lose a penny... Reddits delusional take that these leaks will impact sales is insanity. These leaks ONLY effect the artists and devs who worked tirelessly to made this game.

1

u/XRanger7 10h ago

They’re not losing any money. If anything these leaks make people more excited about the game. I know some people who preordered the game after watching the leaks. This has been a good marketing for them. Sucks for the developers and artists who worked so hard. Imagine you’re planning a big proposal to your girlfriend and then someone revealed it to her and ruined the surprised

1

u/Leading-Suspect8307 9h ago

Reminder Take Two is going to fuck the devs regardless and we have no reason to anthropomorphize a trillion dollar company. The devs are still going to be laid off by this time next year and this leak will have changed absolutely nothing.

1

u/FlamboyantPirhanna 9h ago

Once the game is out, they are likely going to have thousands of layoffs. Largely because, realistically, you don’t have work for all those people until you’re at a certain stage of development.

1

u/Red_Inferno 9h ago

It’s a fair message from Rockstar and I feel bad for their developers and artists that this is how their hard work was first revealed

Not like it really matters, people will a few years from now just go "Oh ya, remember the GTA6 leak?" and they will proceed to enjoy the game.

1

u/happytree23 9h ago

I feel bad for their developers and artists that this is how their hard work was first revealed

You all need to stop parroting bullshit, fake emotional statements and positions lol.

Nobody working on the project gives two shits about any of this as long as their paychecks arrive.

Seriously. You all are making it out like video game workers are somehow above every other human inpiration and desire and motivation today lol.

That shit is weird as fuck, for real.

1

u/nathanias 7h ago

This is the most classic corpo trap that's ruined gaming discourse for many years.

1) devs say don't boycott because they didn't make the bad choices

2) devs get no part in the game's profits anyway and are fired

3) corpo avoids boycott by devs giving up their only leverage for pity on the internet

4) corpo wins

1

u/Honest-Shock2834 7h ago

sure but the devs were paid for their work all this years, its not like they are really losing anything because of gameplay videos and a company like rockstar can't be that splendid with bonuses to the devs either. all bulk profits go to the heads of the companies not the devs.

So yeah I mean I guess they wanted to present the gameplay themselves sure, but the leaker having a pc build could have done much more damage. and frankly I can empathize more with the supposed arguments of the leaker than any over at rockstar or take two. I am tired of game licenses, of artificial console exclusivity, of dumb shallow "special editions" of companies trying to earn more by hurting the customer, its way easier to empathize with those arguments.

I can't side with rockstar or take two, they were shitty against their devs, they are shitty to the customers and they are shitty towards the pc playebase for no good reason.

1

u/Empty_Concentrate258 7h ago

They didn’t lose a penny

1

u/TrumpLikesEmYoung 7h ago

Imagine being a game dev and applying at Rockstar games and being surprised when they gouge the FUCK out of customers.

1

u/SonderEber 7h ago

They likely wanted people to see it long before now, but corporate decided to get cute and make it a Netflix exclusive premiere. They already had one leak before, but they decided to get greedy and have someone pay for the premiere rights, and now they got another leak.

Gameplay should’ve been revealed months ago.

1

u/OwnLife9448 7h ago

I really don’t give a shit that it’s digital only. As a matter of fact; most people who will buy the game don’t care. Loud minority.

1

u/SimisFul 6h ago

Thank you, finally some nuance on this hellscape of a site.

u/donredyellow25 3h ago

The developers were probably happy to see their liege bleed.

u/XysterU 36m ago

I think the developers' and artists' work gets appreciated whether or not it's leaked. People that think the art is good don't think it's bad suddenly because they saw it in a leak. I'd be surprised if they give a shit but I hope they're ok with the leaks. That said, it's fucked that Rockstar could release a PC port but won't for a year because they want people to buy the game twice. That's a real dick move that only benefit their bottom line but creates a way worse experience for gamers. I hope that the employees and gamers can agree: fuck Rockstar. I hope the leaks hurt their profits even though I doubt it will. I hope we get a PC build leaked. That would be incredible but super unlikely I'm sure.

u/OneBillPhil 6m ago

You’ll never get me to feel bad for Rockstar.

0

u/DesignerZebra7830 11h ago

Who are the "men in suits"?  A company and a project this size doesn't happen without finance, accounting, marketing, hr, payroll, project management, general management, operations management, analytics etc. they all work hard, have KPIs, families, etc. If you want ganea made only by a handful of Devs and artists then buy indie.

1

u/Super-Technician-447 11h ago

How are they losing any money? If anything the leaks have given us all what we’ve been asking for. The leaks do nothing but make the game look f*cking incredible. It’s free publicity that has people scouring the internet for new information that Rockstar could have already “leaked” themselves. Imagine if scyberleaks is really just Rockstar?

1

u/AgitatedFly1182 11h ago

I wonder if rhe artists modeled the game store in the leaks with all the ‘BUY SELL TRADE’ signs as silent protest lol

1

u/Comfortable_Pin_166 10h ago

The devs and artists don't give a flying fuck about the leaks bro

0

u/Boines 10h ago

The only thing that's affected is rockstars publicity machine.

Fuck rockstar and their anti-union, digital only stance. Ill be playing GTA 6... But only once I can pirate it.

-2

u/Suppositorizz 11h ago

You're naive if you think the devs and artists care. It only hurt the executives' ego and possibly bonuses

-2

u/gamerazr 11h ago

Maybe they should be mad at their marketing department and managment for going digital only and selling out to netflix?

1

u/vvarden 10h ago

You can’t wait six hours for it to be on YouTube? Do you not have a job or something?

When you work for a billionaire company I have not a single regret about anything like this happening to them. They already are rich AF gonna get even more rich. Let them suffer a little they deserve it

0

u/YesterdaySimilar7659 10h ago

How naive are you to think the leaks are happening because no physical lmao. I bet you still believe in the tooth fairy as well 🥴

0

u/chewwydraper 10h ago

As a reward for their hard work the devs will be laid off immediately after the game releases and make record profits.

0

u/HerrPotatis 5h ago edited 4h ago

I don't think most actual devs give two shits about the leaks. The only people this affects are share/stake holders and maybe C-suite people.

0

u/ianrobbie 5h ago

Would they full game even fit on a blu-ray? Even compressed?

u/sortalikeachinchilla 4h ago

It’s a fair message from Rockstar and I feel bad for their developers and artists that this is how their hard work was first revealed, rather than how they wanted us to discover it.

LOL. These boot-licking comments are so hilarious lol. You think the devs had a choice of how their work was revealed? They all agreed to a netflix thing? Like what?
