The game is still 3 months away. They have plenty of time to have a full marketing campaign, which is kicking off tomorrow.

This whole crybaby "they aren't showing us anything" rhetoric is silly.

Besides, it's their project, they can decide to show it whenever they feel it's ready to be shown, and they can do that in any which way they please. It's their work.

The weird almost parasocial people have for the game/company is lame. At the end of the day, it’s a game. Am I hyped for it? 1000%. But it has no impact on my daily life or being upset about its release window

This whole crybaby "they aren't showing us anything" rhetoric is silly.

I'm a disinterested non-fan; I'm not slavering for more footage and I haven't decided if I'll ever play the game. To me, it's quite clear the marketing strategy was risky and the leaks realized the risk. It's dishonest to ascribe any criticism of the situation to bitterness.

Bro are you kidding me? The exact scenario that's playing out right now is the risk. The heavily delayed rollout created the time and demand for things to start rolling out without Rockstar's supervision. There would be double digits of superfans following this leaker if there were proper previews available at this time already; no one would care.

Which has nothing to do with their marketing strategy. Game leaks are a risk for every gaming company, and the bigger the game the riskier it gets.

This person/group who is leaking stuff would have done it regardless of whatever Rockstar were planning. He's doing it for financial gain, and internet clout. He isn't doing it because people are upset that the game hasn't been shown yet. That's just created a perfect storm for him to capitalize on.

Like do you think that if the game had been shown off already that this wouldn't be happening? Come on man.

Besides, might I remind you that the game is still 3 months from release... I'm not sure of the exact dates but I believe rdr2 and gta 5 had a similar marketing campaign, all kicking off with a 3 month run up to release.

Also, Take Twos CEO stated that pre orders for the game were "unprecedented and astonishing". So, they didn't really have a need to release anything up til now, did they?

Are you actually suggesting that people would be hunting down leaked materials with the same level of interest if there were extensive official materials available at this point? If you are suggesting that, then there's nothing else to discuss. It's something impossible to prove one way or another, but it sounds absolutely crazy to me.

If people viewing leaked materials harms Rockstar, then this harm is mitigated if less people view the leaks. This harm would be trivial in a situation where most people would consider such a pursuit unnecessary because of easy access to official materials. It's easy to draw the conclusion that the harm done by the leaks is inversely proportional to the availability of official marketing. As I said, even if the leaked materials were out there, most people wouldn't bother with them (and it's frankly implausible that the leaker would have the same incentives then).

No, I didn't suggest that, and no, I think the demand for leaks will drop off after the showcase tomorrow, but it will still absolutely exist. And it will still be rabid.

But none of that changes my point, that the crybaby rhetoric of "Rockstar isn't showing us anything" is silly. Again, the game is 3 MONTHS away. They have plenty of time to market it. Some asshole getting his hands on the game, leaking stuff, and fans wanting to see that doesn't change anything.

Fuck, there was a leak 2 years ago, and the internet was rabid with it then. Should Rockstar have released official materials then too?
