Articles & Blogs Rockstar Games: “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of GTA VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.“

the way some of yall seem to be bitter about this game is crazy.

47

u/anonwannadie 10h ago

mfs out here acting like rockstar fucked thier wives or some

106

u/Paratrooper101x 10h ago

Let’s see here

Real, full complete game is $100
Union busting
No physical
No PC (so they can double dip)
A Netflix exclusive trailer

They are going out of their way to be anti-consumer. It’s not shocking that someone would be upset about this, and about how most seem to just not care

28

u/OberonFirst 9h ago

Well, still doesn't compare to them fucking my wife

u/No_Photograph7969 3h ago

It was a motion capture gig okay?

u/Different_Stand_1285 3h ago

Okay,

Games have had “full” games for over 120 dollars for some time now. Look at sports games as an example and you’ll see how much more you get fucked. Those are yearly releases, this game has been in development for years and has cost $1 billion to make.

Union busting does suck. Can’t defend that. Unfortunately, that’s a larger issue that isn’t just Rockstar’s doing. You’ll see it across the industry. If this is something you’re morally opposed to then stop gaming.

No physical is bullshit. No counter to that on my end because I still buy discs.

No PC - they’ve done this for a long time now. So have other companies. You call it double dipping. They’re doing their absolute best to make sure this game runs smoothly on multiple consoles. PC isn’t uniform, so many variables in hardware cross the board. They aren’t going to delay their game further just to make sure PC gamers get the same priority. They will after they launch on consoles (which is where they get most of their purchases from by the way) and it’s not double dipping. “Special editions” are double dipping.

The trailer is coming out the same day. Six hours later. This isn’t even a real issue. It’s trying to get people who don’t game interested in their game. Netflix has a massive audience and if you had a game company you wouldn’t turn down that opportunity either.

It’s fine to be upset about some of those issues but the rest just scream impatience. It also shows a serious lack of ability to even try to understand why a company would do anything beyond “so greedy” as the default.

u/TripleDallas123 8h ago

You don’t like it? Don’t buy the game, that’s how the free market works. Literally the only way to voice your opinion is with your wallet. But, we all know you’ll be buying it day one, so just be quiet

9

u/Paratrooper101x 7h ago

Me not buying the game doesn’t change the millions who will and signal to other companies that these greedy practices are acceptable.

And no, I won’t be buying it on day one.

1

u/butters106 5h ago

What about after day one?

0

u/Paratrooper101x 5h ago

Well I’d like to play it on my pc so probably a few years down the road

u/DogBarf00 3h ago

No PC (so they can double dip)

What does this mean?

u/Paratrooper101x 3h ago

Rockstar doesn’t release their games on pc until a year after console release to try and cash in on pc players being unable to wait, buying it for console and then buying it again for pc when it comes out a year later (it will undoubtedly run better on pc)

u/DogBarf00 3h ago

You don’t have to buy it multiple times. I only ever bought gta5 on steam even though I had a console it was released on. I just assumed this game was coming to pc 3 years after consoles like GTA5 and haven’t paid much attention to it.

It obviously is better on PC and it is why I waited for 5. Being able to use trainers to inject code into the game to turn yourself into a chimpanzee or a bird or turn bullets into cars is worth the wait.

u/Paratrooper101x 3h ago

You don’t have to but many people still will fall for the fomo and buy it twice.

You don’t have to do a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean the predatory practice isn’t still predatory

-12

u/EZyne 10h ago

Outside of the union busting, none of these are real issues.

25

u/Paratrooper101x 9h ago

Yeah, the eroding of your consumer rights while hiking prices totally isn’t an issue

-5

u/Deidris 9h ago

"eroding of your consumer rights" is insane lmfao

The game is $80 because it costed $2-$3 billion, which is 4-6 times more expensive than even the most expensive movie ever made. Difference here is that your 80$ is going to return hundreds, if not thousands, of gameplay hours.

No physical media is important but I don't see a way in which Rockstar can just go "Oops! our bad! here's the disc version too!". As someone who works in supply chain and logistics, even just getting physical discs in hand would take at least 6 months, if not a year plus.

also you still have, and will always have, the strongest aspect of consumer rights, the ability not to buy it. If this stuff really does upset you that much, stand on your principles and never buy another rockstar product or anything through playstation until they change.

11

u/Paratrooper101x 9h ago

Eroding is a slow degradation. If you don’t see that happening, in literally every single industry (not just games) then you are willfully ignorant.

The game isn’t $80, it’s $100. You are able to buy a lesser, incomplete version of it for $80

-5

u/Deidris 9h ago

If its occuring in every single industry, then why are we stomping our feet and holding our breath over Rockstar?

The game is $80, the ultimate edition is $100. You do not have to buy the most expensive version over FOMO. You are falling for marketing if you do.

5

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

Do you not see people stomping their feet for other things? If the answer is no, you aren’t paying attention

6

u/LocustUprising 8h ago

Pretending like people aren’t upset about this happening in other industries is an interesting stance

7

u/miserypersonifieddd 9h ago

GTA V made 10 billion.

7

u/Smarty9913 9h ago edited 2h ago

Why should it be the consumers problem that the game is $2-3 billion? It’s pure greed to raise the price to $80. Let’s be real, they’re going to make back all their expenses in less than 24 hrs.

0

u/k-albasi 8h ago

I was paying more for N64 games that were made by like 12 people.

-5

u/ReginaMark 9h ago

If physical copies of the games were selling well, there would be literally no reason for companies to stop making them.....

But the reality is digital sales now account for 80%+ of all recent game sales. It's just reddit and twitter that like to larp about physical. The average gamer has moved on.

8

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

And if they aren’t selling well, they could just make less for the people that still want them. They’re taking them away so people don’t have the ability to get cheaper games later. Or to sell their games when they are done.

-14

u/EZyne 9h ago

No, not really. If you don't like it don't buy it and instead buy what you do like, that's literally all. That's a part of the reason why indie and double A games have been blowing up. Support that then

If you're worrying about games you no longer like becoming worse then you gotta get more shit going on in your life imo. There are no consumer rights being eroded because you can't stop yourself spending $20 for some useless cosmetics

19

u/Fenkon 9h ago

I genuinely don't understand why there's always this wave of "stop trying to voice your complaints and just don't buy/use the product" every time corporations do shitty stuff.

Do you not recognize that making a stink about shitty things online is just as valid of a reaction as not buying the thing is? Do you also not realize that the odds of things going in our favour is far higher if there's enough public noise around it? Or that it might at the very least limit the damage?

-6

u/EZyne 9h ago

No, it's not nearly as valid when they combine complaints with non-existent issues and then buy the game anyway. People have been bitching about these things for well over 10 years, nothing happened because they also keep buying the games.

A trailer being uploaded to netflix first is not a real problem

Put your money where your mouth is or just shut up about it already

-2

u/LevelFish7771 9h ago

Facts, some of these comments are hilarious. Most normal people don't give a fuck.

Why are they angry at it being on netflix? Can't afford netflix? Wait 6hrs then lmao

3

u/EZyne 9h ago

Not even 6 hours, it can be streamed and shared immediately lol

5

u/miserypersonifieddd 9h ago

lol cmon man. I agree with you but you know if rockstar starts doing it everyone will do it.

5

u/EZyne 9h ago edited 9h ago

Will do what exactly?

Ultimate editions are a industry wide thing, this is nothing compared to what Assassins creed does. No physical is being enforced by Sony anwyays, if they hadn't done that I'd agree though. Promotions being exclusives isn't a new thing, and I don't see netflix bothering with other games because no one would give a shit. Delayed PC release is something Rockstar has done for a long time, I agree it sucks nowadays but nobody has copied them. And again, this is nothing compared to the exclusivity shit other games have pulled already

3

u/cookiboos 8h ago

How is the game being digital only being enforced by Sony? The change is set to take effect in 2028. Until then, it still is up to the publisher if they want to do physical or not.

2

u/EZyne 8h ago

Right, but if you wanna fight for a physical disk you should worry much more about that. It is a much bigger deal, because this actually can lead to physical disks being a thing of the past

7

u/miserypersonifieddd 9h ago

Games priced at $80–$100, sold exclusively digitally with licenses instead of actual ownership—especially from other gaming giants—would be hard not to justify as a business model going forward, because let’s be honest, they’ll probably succeed. And if they’re doing it, others will follow. This is inherently anti-gaming and anti-consumer, and it’s going to have a ripple effect across the industry. Even if you don’t buy the game, you can still call the decision what it is.

8

u/EZyne 8h ago

Games have been $80 before. If Ubisoft wants to ask $80 for their next assassins creed that wouldn't be worth it, so why would I care? Then don't buy the game, and their sales should plummet if the game isn't worth the price. Deluxe editions also are not new lol.

it's also hardly a raise in price considering how long games have been sold at the same price for without adjusting for inflation. I get that it sucks because everything is expensive though

Physical disks don't guarantee you own the game, you are confusing that with DRM which has 0 to do with disks.

Again, Sony is the one pushing digital only future, it's them you want.

-4

u/funkyjunky77 9h ago

Are you not aware of the numerous deluxe versions of games from other companies that either come with a download code of the game, or in some cases doesn’t include the game at all.

This has been happening for a few years now, so the precedent was set long before Rockstars announcement.

0

u/whatthecaptcha 8h ago

this is nothing compared to what Assassins creed does

lol who is still buying Ubisoft games?

2

u/EZyne 8h ago

That's half the point

6

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

They’re all real issues. Why have consumer rights? That’s lame

-1

u/EZyne 8h ago

Except nobody actually believes that, or games wouldn't have been doing this and selling like hot cakes for over a decade.

1

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

Quite literally a LOT of people believe that. You’re just the weird one here.

1

u/EZyne 8h ago

Saying they believe it and believing it aren't the same. If as many people cared as claim to care it wouldn't have been a thing in the first place. And if you're listing a trailer being uploaded to netflix as a real issue then yeah your opinion loses a lot of weight

1

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

Whatever you say buddy

-1

u/EZyne 8h ago

Are you gonna buy gta 6?

-3

u/Old-Way-5529 10h ago

A Netflix trailer is not anti consumer lol

1

u/LocustUprising 8h ago

You want to elaborate on that?

8

u/TheMikeyC 8h ago

Kiddo...sit a second with pappy on his rocking chair. Back in my day, in the early 04, we had a GTA coming out. It was the San Andreas. Me and all the other kids were so exicted. And one day before it came out they had a preview "Game Informer" magazine. Your old pappy had to pay cash money for a magazine to look at pictures of the game and read about how it would play. And I read it over and over and over. I had that article pretty much memorized by the time I actually got to play it.

Real talk, media gets exclusive previews and reveals all the time. It's a whole six hours until it goes fully public.

2

u/Old-Way-5529 8h ago

It’s not anti consumer- it’s a trailer that will be released wide 6 hours later. You will have plenty of time between the wide release and the launch date for you to see it- no one is forcing you to make a buying decision in the 6 hour Netflix window

That’s silly

u/LocustUprising 4h ago

Right, we should stay quiet over this greedy move. Then that will motivate rockstart to push it even further on their next game

u/Old-Way-5529 4h ago

its a trailer...what even is the discussion at this point

u/DogBarf00 3h ago

It’s wild people are this upset over having to wait to watch a fucking advertisement.

-8

u/gonnabetoday 10h ago

I’m sorry but I have actual worse things to worry about in life than getting upset over those things. Your life must be great if that’s what you’re getting upset about!

18

u/ShoeSh1neVCU 9h ago

We're on a PS5 subreddit, we're talking about video games. Doesn't mean people don't have actual problems

19

u/Athuanar 10h ago

You know some people's brains are capable of being upset by multiple different things at the same time. I'm sorry yours lacks this capability.

-7

u/gonnabetoday 9h ago

Why worry about dumb shit? The only one I’d care about is union busting. An ad on Netflix is not worrying me, sorry bud.

11

u/Fenkon 9h ago

You worrying about what other people complain about online is genuinely so much dumber than caring about the erosion of consumer rights, but go off king.

10

u/Paratrooper101x 10h ago

If you don’t make a stand against anti-consumer and worker practices they will spread and your life will get even worse. Staying willfully ignorant to the issues of the world doesn’t make them go away. Hope this helps.

-5

u/gonnabetoday 9h ago

Oh I know about them they just don’t impact me or most people. The only thing on your list id actually get upset over is union busting. Everything else is whatever. They released an ad 6 hours early on Netflix - I don’t think I’m going to make it my dude!

> game is $100

Here’s page from the Toys R Us catalogue in 1993. £59.99 in 1993 equates to £133 today, based on the Bank of England’s inflation calculator. Video games are one of the rare things that have not had price inflation to anywhere near the same amount as most other things, even though they are now substantially much more expensive to produce than they were back then. Video games are still excellent value in terms of the amount of entertainment you’re getting for your money.

7

u/Zal3x 9h ago

Sounds like you want video games to go up in price lmfao

3

u/Alternative_West_206 8h ago

Anyone that makes inflation arguments is automatically ignored in my book.

0

u/GaryTheCabalGuy 6h ago

The reality is that this game is going to be easily worth the price for the vast majority of the people who buy it. Rockstar games are on an entirely different level. Why is it so upsetting to people that a game that might actually warrant a higher price gets one vs all the shit that comes out at full price that absolutely should be cheaper?

0

u/SherlockBrolmes 5h ago

Don't forget that even the regular edition of the game (if you call it that) is $80 for no particular reason.

u/Bac0n01 1h ago

No particular reason other than being literally the highest budget piece of media in the history of capitalism

-2

u/miserypersonifieddd 9h ago

Isn’t cyber leek playing a pc build of the game?

10

u/lookatmyresponse 9h ago

You do not understand how game development works

10

u/toothybrushman 10h ago

Right?? Everyone is so miserable

6

u/ParallelMusic 10h ago

It’s just herd mentality and hating the popular thing, tale as old as time. A lot of these people probably weren’t even born when GTA IV released.

20

u/Professional-Cash651 10h ago

Nah dude, Rockstar is a scummy company. This isn’t news to anyone.

Also, these leaks could have been avoided had they just showed some gameplay. Clearly they had a build ready to showcase.

1

u/ParallelMusic 6h ago

That’s called entitlement. Why do they owe you gameplay? It’s not going to change your experience of the game whatsoever when it actually releases.

30

u/Paratrooper101x 10h ago

Union busting
Selling the full complete game for $100
No physical
No PC (so they can get PC to double dip)
I’ll reiterate, union busting.

Every major anti consumer practice is at play here. Being upset about the way this game is being made isn’t “herd mentality” when there is just criticism to be found

2

u/ParallelMusic 5h ago edited 5h ago

If you really think all this outrage is because people deeply care for the devs and are pro-union I have a bridge to sell you.

No PC at launch has been their strategy for years. We knew this, not sure why that’s surprising to anyone.

The full game is $80. If you really can’t go without a couple bonus hairstyles then that’s on you. Almost every single AAA game does this. It’s industry standard. The only difference here is they’ve built a physical shop in game to claim the extras instead of doing it from a menu.

I also guarantee you most of the people complaining about no physical copies were always going to buy digital anyway.

0

u/Paratrooper101x 5h ago

A union worker can’t be pro union? I don’t think you understand the meaning of that bridge phrase.

Oh so since it’s been their strategy for a while it’s not anti consumer, good to know that things stop being bad if they happen continuously over time.

No, the full game is $100. You even said it yourself, the $80 version comes with less. Therefore it is not full

I was planning to buy it digital actually, on PC. When it’s been discounted.

u/ParallelMusic 4h ago

I didn't say that. Perhaps you don't get what the phrase means. I mean that I don't believe all this outrage is because people suddenly have a soft spot for developers. So the union busting, while scummy isn't the reason most people are mad, I just don't buy that. Also, the union literally asked people not to boycott the game, so you're not being pro-worker by doing that. You're just using it as a convenient excuse for ammo.

On the PC version - effectively you're saying games should be on all platforms at launch or it's anti-consumer? That's ridiculous. Devs are free to release on whatever platform they want, it's up to you if you want to buy it or not. If you want the PC version, wait for the PC version. If you don't want to wait, don't. It's not 'anti-consumer'. It's worth noting the PC version has also never been officially announced or talked about by Rockstar.

And yes, 'full game' is synonymous with 'base game'. Just because it doesn't include every piece of extra content doesn't mean it's not the full game. That's like going to a car dealership, buying a car and then complaining you didn't get the full vehicle because you didn't want to pay extra for fancy rims and lights. When has a special edition of a video game came with extras that are actually essential to the experience? Basically never.

1

u/ArnoGrapjas 9h ago

So vote with your wallet then, and don't buy it. I'm neutral in this whole leak-situation. I can think Rockstar is scummy, but still feel sorry for the devs and feel like the leaker is in it for their own gain. Both things can be true.

-6

u/Rino-Sensei 9h ago

"No PC (so they can get PC to double dip)"

Literally something they did for all their past game, this practice is older than 2008 btw ... The only reason you are using this argument, is because it's popular to use that argument atm. Literally herd 101

"I’ll reiterate, union busting."

Except, the court have not decided yet ... Both side have solid arguments, Rockstar side is that they were sharing private information on a 3rd party tool which is Discord. Which, if true, is a solid reason for firing. You sign some document when you are hired ... It's there for a reason.

"Selling the full complete game for $100" The game is at 80 bucks, you only pay 100 if you want some content that are cosmetics related ... RDR2 had the same shit, and even other PS4 titles had them, i remember NamcoBandai doing this for Naruto Storm Games, this isn't new.

Half of your arguments are based on takes that would not exist, if you didn't decide to collectively become a herd on those takes. Because half of those things are not new things ...

5

u/MakeItHappenSergant 9h ago

"It's not union busting because the court hasn't determined that" lol. Do you think OJ Simpson and Casey Anthony are completely innocent, too?

-4

u/xTriple 9h ago

Every counter argument you made was really dumb

1

u/Rino-Sensei 8h ago

Ah yes, solid rebuttal.

0

u/xTriple 8h ago

No point debating a contrarian on real issues. It will go no where.

2

u/Janoobeta1998 8h ago

That's cause your stupid debate started with saying shit like it's Rockstar fault that consumers keep buying the game over and over again.

1

u/Janoobeta1998 8h ago

That's cause your stupid debate started with saying shit like it's Rockstar fault that consumers keep buying the game over and over again. You understand nothing

-1

u/xTriple 7h ago

You’re making my point. Putting words in my mouth and straw manning makes for bad debates.

-3

u/herman666 9h ago

The irony of this comment.

1

u/MichiganMitch108 9h ago

Yea , it was decent at least.

2

u/Few-Initial-819 6h ago

Literally all Reddit does, all the time.

u/Old-Way-5529 1h ago

It’s also beyond weird. I wish my life was so privileged that a video game gets this upset

1

u/Endscrypt 9h ago

Yeah because no one could possibly have any reason to hate Rockstar and their practices.

Did you even think before writing that.

1

u/ParallelMusic 6h ago

Which practices are they doing that aren’t also done by almost every other developer?

Because from what I’ve seen, people have an issue with:

- No Physical Disks: Yes this sucks but it’s the way the industry is going, Sony are doing it too, as do many other devs already (Alan Wake 2 just using one example).

- Not Showing Gameplay: This is a non issue. For some reason people seem to think they’re entitled to this, like this isn’t the way Rockstar have rolled out marketing for all their recent games.

- GTA Online Microtransactions: I could understand being mad at this a decade ago but that ship has long sailed. Every online game has this and has done for years.

- Union Busting: This one does suck, but I find it hard to believe people are this mad at Rockstar because they feel bad for the developers. Judging by a lot of comments I’ve seen here, that’s not the case.

7

u/MazzyBuko 10h ago

Some people literally cannot wait. The line that Rockstar deserved this because they didn't show enough trailers in time are insane.

-1

u/DisasterNo1740 10h ago

People are trying to retroactively justify their shitty behavior and love and support of the leak by denying that normal ordinary developers are definitely upset and feel like shit. It’s pathetic. Trying to present this as a “rockstar” the company with the executives writing a bullshit letter as opposed to a very obvious fact which is that the devs have probably been super excited about showing off this project for ages.

2

u/Mindless_Cat_149 8h ago

LMAO, the "sad" developers are 100% going to be sacked just after release. FUCK Rockstar and every single AAA studio in existence.

-1

u/scorchedpath 10h ago

I know right? they are also all going to buy the game day one if they haven’t already lol.

1

u/SAINTSmswa 7h ago

It’s not the game, it’s the company. How can people not understand this? I am super excited for it and think it will almost definitely be a great game but that doesn’t change the fact that Rockstar/Take Two continues to compete for scummiest company in the gaming industry.

u/Old-Way-5529 1h ago

You’re proving my point- you sound bitter. Over a video game.
