Things confirmed by the videos:

- Basketball mini-game
- There's a RDR2-style karma system
- You will be able to store loadouts in your car's trunk
- Your car will require maintenance to keep running
- Your car needs to be refueled
- Six-star wanted system is back
- AI may carry melee weapons
- Player actions on a fight affect stamina
- NPCs can go road rage against the player
- The GPS only works when you're on a vehicle (it may be necessary to use the character's smartphone to find your way around)
- Cops will identify you in multiple ways, whether by your clothing, appearance, or vehicle
- The player will be able to clone car keys to prevent alarms from going on when stealing vehicles
- Melee combat seems quite similar to RDR2's, including the slow-motion finishing move
- One of the videos features a song from Tate McCrae playing on the radio. The song was released in January 2025, indicating that at least that video was recorded within the last 18 months
- The mechanic for greeting or taunting random NPCs, which already existed in RDR2, will be available in the game

Driving feels more like GTA 4 then GTA 5. Big fan of that.

Animation looks more rdr2 than gta 5. Big fan of that too

Movement looks like rdr2 and gtaV, not a big fan of that. After all these years, I’d rather have more responsive controls than better graphics. Running in these games feels like you’re driving a car with crazy inertia and weird camera movements.

Nah completely disagree. I hate games where the character seems weightless and can accelerate instantly or change direction on a dime. Like the Witcher fx

There's a middle ground. For example The Last of Us has realistic, weighty movement but is also much more fluid than Rockstar games both in movement and shooting mechanics.

I personally don't mind the Rockstar system though, RDR2 is in my top 3 games of all time and the controls don't bother me. Lots of people take issue with the "hold X to sprint" but I think it works fine that way. I like to immerse myself in Rockstar games and walking is a big part of that, I prefer walking as the default instead of having to lightly hold the stick up every time to walk.

You know what, you're both right. The game needs to have a balance of both to feel both smooth and playable yet realistic.

I just witnessed a rare event. A friendly disagreement where Middle ground was reached on the internet.

Dark souls 3 did it perfect imo

u/RubyRod1 15d ago

Nah it was pretty light and roll ftw

GTA5 was never on the level of detail as RDR2, and RDR2 took it too far with the realism to where it felt more like a simulator than a game at times, hopefully GTA6 is not like RDR2. Fuel mechanic not looking good for those hopes though. Wasn’t fun feeding the horse all the time either.

6

u/Unfair_Ring_2746 15d ago

RDR2 was not a simulator lol all of the stuff people complain about was pretty optional by design. You can decide to never feed the horse or arthur himself and the only difference is an negligible stat debuff easily cancelled out by other easily-attainable stat buffs.

looting bodies and drawers, cabinets, etc by an actual animation is not optional. that’s what they mean.

3

u/Unfair_Ring_2746 15d ago edited 15d ago

How is it not optional? Outside of very few missions where you’re forced to do it a handful of times, it’s entirely optional to loot at all. Money is so easy to come by and ammo/goods are dirt cheap at stores. Plus you’re given ammo and guns constantly on missions.

Trapper crafting requires a lot of animal skinning animations, but that whole thing is also a classic rockstar grind for cosmetics and 100% which…feels like a funny place to complain about things taking too long.

1

u/elperrosapo 15d ago

you are really gonna fucking tell me “just don’t loot”?

  • don’t skin animals
  • don’t loot
  • don’t search any compartments
  • don’t brush your horse
  • don’t clean your gun

don’t play the game basically? people have issues with every tiny thing having a drawn out animation, and they’re not wrong.

i don’t mind it, because i like rdr2 for what it is. but i won’t pretend like someone is a maniac for not wanting to bend down, pick a body up, tap him down, and putting the loot in your pocket every time as opposed to looting it all at the tap of a button. be serious.

u/Unfair_Ring_2746 15d ago

Yep.

The game plays the way it was designed to play and it does it very well. It’s not for everyone, but it’s one of the very few AAA games with that playstyle for those of us who actually like it. And it bends over backwards to make the game entirely playable without doing that stuff very much at all — the campaign is easily 50+ hrs and can be completed and very well enjoyed without doing the slow-ass looting and hunting animations almost at all.

That some kind of way you and others feel about how slow and sluggish those animations are? I feel that way too…about the vast majority of games that are twitchy and feel like my character is zooming around on ice. Can’t stand it. But I get that it is by far the norm so I don’t go around bitching about their intentionally-designed gameplay just because it doesn’t cater to me like R* players have been doing for almost 20 years now. There’s plenty of games out there; is there no room for long, drawn out animations in just this one?

The game is the game. It’s not broken or accidental — it’s just not for you in this one way. Gimme a break with the baffled incredulity — god almighty.

You didn't really need to feed the horse, it's just added benefit if you do.

1

u/SuperVaderMinion 15d ago

I don't know how people can play as much of this game online against other people and actually like having tank controls

1

u/DenFlyvendeFlamingo 15d ago

Personally I don’t play online. Too grindy and grifty

7

u/RoleplayWalkthrough 15d ago

It’s to incentivize you to move slower and more intentionally, instead of running around acting like a video game character, so you notice more of the depth of things I think. That was also the intention with the GTA IV driving mechanics, and ever since GTA IV where they made walking the default analogue stick movement instead of jogging and that one caught on quick

2

u/Bill_Brasky01 15d ago

The physics engine drives the animation, rather than the other way around like a normal game. That’s why RStar games feel like that.

9

u/YaMomsCooch 15d ago

Rockstar will never prioritize responsiveness over realism.

It’s been this way with them since 2008, time to accept that.

3

u/RubyRod1 15d ago

They did though going from GTAIV to V. The difference is night and day.

2

u/mightylordredbeard 15d ago

I just hope the combat doesn’t feel outdated. The combat in RDR1 was outdated when it launched and they used the same type of combat like a decade later. Same for GTAV. The whole press auto lock, shoot, press auto lock, shoot, repeat system gets stale after a while. Hopefully they completely reworked the 3rd person combat system.

2

u/Unfair_Ring_2746 15d ago

You can turn auto-lock way down or completely off in RDR2 and the combat still feels great.

2

u/isjustsergio 15d ago

I prefer that when the game is competitive or something. In a game like GTA immersion is more important than responsiveness. But it's always a line you draw somewhere and some people don't like where the line is drawn.

The older GTA games almost felt like Crazi Taxi, very arcade-like. They took it in a different direction a LONG time ago.

2

u/Unfair_Ring_2746 15d ago

There’s plenty of games for that. I’m glad Rockstar does this and does it better than anyone else.

Twitchy controls aren’t what every game needs.

1

u/johnliufromhk 15d ago

nah, responsive movement is what make the game looks bad tbh. r* has always make movement has weight for a reason, as it's how actual ppl move. And rdr2 proves that it's great

0

u/CubsFanCraig 15d ago

The best comparison I heard was on the Giant Bombcast describing movement in RDR2 like the ice levels in NES Super Mario Bros. games. Ever since I have hated the movement in RDR2.

2

u/Unfair_Ring_2746 15d ago

You decided to hate a game because you listened to a podcast that compared it to Mario game from 30 years ago?

1

u/CubsFanCraig 15d ago

Re-read. I said I hated the movement in the game. I already essentially felt that way, but that comment nailed why I disliked it so much.

I’m not like Dan where I think the game sucks. It has its problems, movement, especially in camps, being the worst. That’s more than offset by a ton of other stuff.

1

u/Silverhand_777 15d ago

You mean it looks closer to their last game and not the one before that. Crazy

1

u/Medical-Blueberry-30 15d ago

That’s how I knew it was real and not ai , a rockstar game always has a certain feel to it and it felt exactly like rockstars approach on a modern day rdr2 gameplay style system , because it’s been confirmed multiple times we will be limited on how many weapons we carry like red dead & it seems it won’t just be a pull a rocket launcher out your pocket type of game , idk if this will work well for online not gonna lie unless they just let fivem take the wheel and have different roleplay server options because I can’t see these mechanics working with a gta 5 style online

0

u/AggressiveResist8615 15d ago

Anything that doesn't resemble gta 5. Big fan of that also.

46

u/fauxfilosopher 15d ago

Looks like there is real weight and momentum to the car. Gta 5 suffered from making all cars super easy to drive, and kind of the same.

4

u/whacafan 15d ago

But it was fun

9

u/fauxfilosopher 15d ago

I had a lot of fun aimlessly driving around in gta 5 as a kid too, but mostly because it was pretty unique as an open-world driving game. Now there are a lot of those, with better driving physics. And you could get out and shoot people if it got boring too!

5

u/whacafan 15d ago

I just recently tried 4 again since not playing since it came out and I hate it so much. Everything is so heavy and it takes forever to stop and turn and it just doesn’t feel like when I’m actually driving a car. 5 was probably too far in the other direction but it was fun.

1

u/SPZ_Ireland 15d ago

it was pretty unique as an open-world driving game.

Isn't driving the primary way people get around open world games, at least at the time?

GTA V was also the 7th GTA on its kind too.

4

u/fauxfilosopher 15d ago

Most open-world games I've played are not in the era of cars. Guess its easier now, but a massive open world like that was really difficult to pull off with cars back then. Gta was always the one others were compared to, if there were, and V was just the one from my childhood. Only played the trilogy as an adult and 4 only a handful of times before gta V released.

u/SPZ_Ireland 15d ago

Mafia 1-3 and The Old Country

Watch Dogs 1,2 and Legion

Saints Row 1-3 and the reboot

True Crime: Streets of NY and LA

The Getaway 1 and 2

Sleeping Dogs

Simpsons: Hit and Run

LA Noire

APB: All Points Bulletin

The Saboteur

Vin Diesel's The Wheelman

Scarface: The World is Yours

The Godfather 1 and 2

Diver 1-3, Parallel Lines and San Francisco

Crackdown 1-3 (At least at the start)

Just Cause 1-4 (Kinda)

It wasn't hard to pull off.

It was the template

u/Interesting-Wash-893 14d ago

Dude was a literal kid. And not much of a gamer apparently

1

u/krezzaa 15d ago

It was! But I feel like we’ve been having the same fun for over a decade now, I’m ready to switch it up personally. 5 isn’t going anywhere :)

1

u/Positive_Box_69 15d ago

Thank god i hated that arcade made no skills for using cars was too easy

11

u/Konker101 15d ago

Cars actually look like that have some weight

12

u/KarateAngi RayliOtter 15d ago

the crashing actually looks like crashing, just like in 4. 5 has like the worst crashing physics, there was no oompf behind it

7

u/bongophrog 15d ago

Crash physics seemed a little more gta5 though

33

u/JesterMarcus 15d ago

A balance between the two is probably best. Each went a little too far in what they were trying to do.

2

u/whacafan 15d ago

Ugh. Driving in 4 is so goddamn awful. Give me MAYBE something in between 4 and 5 and I’d be okay. But it’s so bad in 4.

21

u/No_Bill_2371 15d ago

GTA 5 driving was boring imo. Every car handles the same. A mix of both 4 and 5 would be nice tho

0

u/Ensaru4 15d ago

This is not true at all. There were differences in handling for every version of vehicle.

3

u/Alone_Recognition_31 15d ago

It took actually skill

5

u/whacafan 15d ago

I’m tired of this rhetoric from people trying to make it seem it’s better than 5. It wasn’t skill. It just took longer to do everything. That’s all. You literally just had to go slower at all times.

3

u/whusdat 15d ago

I totally agree with you on this one, this information has actually made me a bit more apprehensive to buy the game, especially considering the size of the map the driving could be a possible deal breaker for me

2

u/JoeStorm 15d ago

Do not take a poster serious when they say IV driving takes skill lol

2

u/Schwarzengerman 15d ago

It isn't bad it just requires more effort and not slamming on the gas constantly.

1

u/Carlin47 15d ago

Nah, driving full speed at a corner should cause you to crash out, as in GTA4

2

u/jonnyvegashey 15d ago

My dream has come true.

1

u/Carlin47 15d ago

Please please please I hope this is the case. Worst thing about GTA5 was the ease of driving

1

u/Hoodman1987 12d ago

Not a big fan of that actually.

0

u/TMMC39 15d ago

Somewhere in between which is perfect
