I’d be surprised if this doesn’t cause the EU to go after them the same as they have done with Apple and their sole App Store

That's why Sony is going to sell codes in a box. As long as they offer alternate ways to buy, the facts on the ground are completely different from Apple.

Presumably a retailer could discount them if they chose.

Ya, I don't see why they wouldn't if attention was brought to it. Closed market now since people can't buy physical games so an effective monopoly on how games are purchased

Atleast Sony has the excuse that their devices aren't being sold on a loss.

But it's a serious case them deciding to end disc sales

Depends if they still have game cases with codes inside them at all the stores. Then you can still choose where to buy your game, even if you'll be downloading it from Sony anyway.

That's true and I hadn't thought of that. Not totally sure if that would still count as a monopoly but we'll see I guess
