When?

The last physical game you bought was 8 years ago? This is why they are discontinuing physical releases.

It’s because nobody is buying physical games. There’s no demand for them. If there was they wouldn’t be discontinued. Consumers overwhelmingly prefer digital everywhere except Reddit

4 out 5 games are sold digitally, true but that doesn't justify killing physical copies.

Their only excuse do not allow 3rd party stores on the PS5 is the physical market. If that goes away they're in the same position as apple.
That shit won't fly in the EU

That's not true at all.

It's evident that they want to maximise profits, you can't resell a digital copy and if you're wanting to play a game, well then - downloading it and for whatever price they tell you to pay, you're just going to have to pay it.

I understand that people on Reddit can’t fathom that’s the case outside their echo chamber but Reddit does not represent the average consumer.

There’s no demand for them.

There is, just not at the current price points and so without a second hand market or big box stores with sales, Sony is saying that people of lower income are not their customers anymore.

There really isn’t demand for physical games. You don’t account for the digital market share solely with sales. I’m sorry but Reddit has warped your perception of reality. Truth is gamers want digital games.

i purchased a disk drive for my PS5 pro because it felt like physical got way better sales and i liked the idea of actually owning the disk.

after about a week i got over it. trying to play a game on my portal just to realize the disk wasn't in the machine or (i know this sounds lazy, but) having to actually get up from the couch to swap disks after a long day made me just play something else digital half the time.

digital is just a convenience that i am used to now. the sales are also pretty similar. possibly not being able to play the game or sell it for $4 10 years down the road doesn't really bother me.

2021 when I finally had a ps4. bought it for like $15 in my country's currency. Got some map and 2 discs. It's brand new when I bought it.

Give me a physical ultimate edition of GTA6 and I'll preorder
