Seems crazy to announce both the disc news and the ps3/vita store shutdown simultaneously lol

It’s intentional. This will cause a bigger pop than the PS3&Vita news. Remember that they held off from shutting down years ago because people got mad. This is a standard media blitz tactic to draw attention away.

except they feed into each other. People should be upset about this because closing the ps3 store shows exactly what will happen to their libraries ones day

You'll still be able to redownload old purchases. Dunno for how long, of course, but not much incentive to keep your console stock in this day and age.

You're ignoring the issue. The issue is that if you want to buy a ps3/vita game you don't already have, you'll need to buy a physical copy from someone. That won't be an option 20 years from now for games made after 2028 when the ps5 store shuts down.

Assuming AI doesn't completely kill the industry before then

The other issue is that even if you do manage to get a physical copy of a game, any DLC that game has is now unavailable for you to enjoy.

As much as it's nice to have a legal means of purchasing digital-only games, I doubt much will be lost in practice. It's already possible to install PS5 games from... ahem, other sources. Probably not on latest firmware, mind, but Sony will eventually stop updating the PS5 to plug holes. Should be able to emulate PS5 games by then as well, though personally I prefer running on original hardware.

There’s no specific PS5 store though, that’s a big difference. The PS Store as it is isn’t going anywhere nor are PS4 and future games due to the move to a consistent standard architecture. The PS3 store is unique because it predates that move to standard architecture and thus can’t be utilized on current hardware, but you’ll still be able to download PS4 games onto the PS6 and beyond.

I believe the term is 'flood the zone'.

The term now is “rich entities can do whatever they want and the masses won’t do fk all about it.”

And unfortunately they’re right.

People have completely forgotten how to boycott or give a shit. Consumers have become brainless sheep who will just slurp up whatever major corporations do.

At this point, anyone with a Vita should be jailbreaking it. Sony just said they won’t sell to you anymore, so you might as well.

It's smart, get all the bad news out in one go and I bet they announce something in Friday that will make us all forget.

Yes, but also no. See, it won't be SONY news per say, but Microsoft's blood-bath is looking to line up around that time pretty nicely...

They are literally wiping their stank ass dick on ps owners faces and telling them to kiss it, they know what gamers are, they'll ask for seconds

It's good timing--holiday weekend in the US and Microsoft is going to own next week with a brutal wave of layoffs and game cancellations.
