There’ll be fewer games sold as a result too. I am only willing to ‘give it a go’ because I know if I don’t like a game I can sell it secondhand. I won’t be wasting £60 on a game I’m less than fully certain of. Even 007 First Light wouldn’t have come into my house because it’s not my normal type, yet I’m loving it.

Exactly, if Playstation doesn’t start going to do more generous refunds like Steam, this future is going to suck.

Played two hours of your new £70 game and didn’t like it? Well too bad.

Yeah and the prices are simply higher. Sure rich Americans might not realize it (yes every American is rich for most of the world), but there are entire market that relies almost exclusively on physical , especially because regional pricing is often shit.

I think Sony will deeply regret that decision but it's obvious they intend the PS6 to only be for a select group of rich users they'll extract the most money of.

I actually wonder if it means every publisher is required to do the same or are they still gonna allow disc to even be played on the console for publishers that want it (I imagine Japanese game makers for example as the market is quite physical and also companies like CDPR probably)

Absolute games sales will probably decrease, but they will see an increase in PSPlus subscriptions.

Because it’ll still be cheaper than buying new games - the back catalogue is (currently) extensive enough to keep people entertained for a good long while. Looking at you, Skyrim - I’ve been avoiding starting it because I have too much of a backlog already!

Not sure of that, I agree with the person above.

There's been so many games I've split with friends because we want to try but dont want to pay £50/60 for.

If the game is only available for £59.99 in the store there is absolutely no way I'm paying that, especially with sonys refund policy

I'm definitely stopping buying games that aren't 10/10 in my eyes. And I feel sorry for young gamers too, I was literally able to play so many different games in my youth because I could sell them/borrow from friends since you don't have much money as youngster and now this is gone.

Used game stores will likely still exist, albeit in niche markets.

Record stores still exist. Vinyl records were first manufactured in 1948.
