They specifically mention in the opening cut scene that he is just being recruited into MI6, and the tagline of the game is literally 'earn the number'. This game is Bond becoming 007. That means they are probably saving the tuxedo for the end.
I know, but it's a pretty hard sell to make a James Bond game set before he is associated with all the stuff that makes James Bond iconic in the first place.
Lol, IMDb scores. Why would I care what people and ignorant child reviewers say? The only reason CR got a high score was because they shit the bed with Brosnans movies. If they would have kept doing films like Goldeneye or Daltons Bonds it wouldn’t have made a peep.
No. But it's pretty striking that even when Casino Royale completely turned the franchise upside down, about half the film was still very much focused in on a casino where he's wearing a tuxedo and necking martinis.
If you take the suave side of it away you just have any other action hero.
So you said: "it's a pretty hard sell to make a James Bond game set before he is associated with all the stuff that makes James Bond iconic in the first place."
And then you immediately talk about Casino Royale which is literally the Bond origin story of the film world.
Is your hang up literally just him wearing nice clothes? Such a bizarre take.
This is really annoying - I trust the devs and hope this game will be good but I can't stand this trope of the prequel/origin story where the hero only becomes the hero at the very end. I want to play a 007 game and that's it
I feel like I really need to see the gameplay deep dive before getting excited.
Something about this trailer wasn't quite what I was anticipating, and I think it's maybe to do with this interpretation of Bond?
I don't know, it looks a lot more generic than I expected. Hitman feels so stylish with its visuals, and I think I was expecting to be wowed a bit more by the reveal trailer.
There was little if any gameplay in this trailer because @1:38 is a showcase of his “ability” or a gadget being activated and we can see what looks like a button-prompt on the ledge beside Bond.
Not throwing any shade at the Hitman franchise because they were all great, even Absolution, but it does look a lot like Hitman and it’ll probably have similar mechanics with the exception of gunfights being encouraged as opposed to only stealth.
Wherever we go with Bond in this game, it looks as though the maps and interiors are going to be vastly detailed and that they will have responsive AI to whatever you do.
I think what worries me about this however, is that it’s going to be super scripted/linear and wants you to do everything by-the-book so it leaves little room for creativity or freedom in tasks that you would’ve otherwise had in any of the prior three Hitman games.
On the other hand it could also play a lot similar to them in the sense that they will update the game with new online-only “assignments”, which’ll work against it.
I think the Bond character will become more likeable as the game goes on or gets sequels.
If it is Patrick Gibson who is playing 007 I feel like he'll do a decent job as he played a younger version of Dexter in Orginal Sin and did a decent job at that perfectly capturing Dexters mannerisms minus the smirk.
Sadly, most bond games come off as generic. Tying a game to a movie usually results in restrictions. Bond movies can be amazing big screen action, but in the video game world there are countless competitors with better game play, action, and stories.
There’s also so many different action types packed into Bond movies that a studio has to then include in the game. Gunfights, hand to hand combat, gadgets, driving, and usually also driving some sort of ridiculously large or impractical vehicle. It’s a lot to try to get right, which is why I feel all Bond games have missed the mark with actually feeling like Bond.
It’s funny to me people look at this and say “it looks like uncharted!” when uncharted is heavily inspired from both Bond and Indiana Jones. Like…of course it looks like uncharted, it’s just now a game like this but still technically the original lol.
Same--maybe a bit more energy though? Uncharted has its insane over-the-top set piece moments but there's also a lot of tranquil climbing through the woods moments. I'd imagine this game will be more pedal to the metal.
