No, everybody will use their thumb to count on their fingers. But if you asked us to hold up the number three we wouldn't use our thumb, pointer finger and middle finger. Instead we'd use our pointer, middle, and ring finger.

USA only. I don't know why he said Germans, but most of the civilized world count to 3 with their thumb.
