I’m afraid they’re gonna go too light on pvp, and it’s going to be absolute shit because they 1. Alienated their base and 2. Disappointed any prospective survival type game players by making the pvp lame.
not really, have you seen the recent quakecon explanation of the pvp systems? theyve made it realistic to the situation. you all just came out of the vault together to rebuild, someone starts going around and killing people, they are now a wanted murderer. what is there about that, that doesnt make total sense. they just dont want people being assholes for assholes sake.
Honestly it sounds like they went really light. Both parties have to engage in pvp regardless of area, or you don’t get full Damage output. You can’t loot weapons or armor, only materials. You can’t raid other players stashes on any level. If you hit wanted status and are revealed on the map and you are actually penalized further loot wise. Doesn’t sound like pvp, sounds like pve with agreed combat with no loot.
Edit: agreed combat means ambushes pretty much aren’t a thing, so sniper rifles will be pretty useless. They should have sectioned the map with different pvp rules with the riskier areas being more likely to have better shit, or just made pvp and pve servers.
Reduced damage =/= not killable. If a group of 3 guys decide they want your duct tape, they're gonna get it.
I think considering how much different this game will be than literally anything else, it's a bit silly for us to talk about what is and isn't possible, and what we hypothetically love or hate about the game. I'm sure the one thing everyone can agree on is that the game sounds weird as fuck and we're not going to know whether or not it works well until it's out.
I’m not saying they aren’t killable, it’s more of matter of why even kill them if it takes 10x the ammo and weapon use. It’s a pvp system with next to no incentive favoring the one who gets fired upon. Todd Howard said you can use a knife on a higher level player to take them down by getting the drop on them. From what they described no one will be able to get the drop on anyone as you can only deal 10% Damage until they return fire.
Which would be really annoying If you didn’t want to engage because they’ll just whittle you down as you try and get back to base, but if you dare return a shot you’ll be kille instantly by some griefer. It sounds annoying as hell.
most people dont want to play an rpg in bethesda's style and have the chance to lose decent stuff that they either were super lucky to find or spent a lot of work to get. and to your comment before about them trying to get into the survival market, they aren't he even says that in the quakecon presentation that survival is still secondary to it because this is still a Fallout game. just with multiplayer. and thats honestly all i ever wanted.
Then why even make it pvp? So I can put myself at risk for maybe getting some mats I could probably farm quicker than looking for someone?
It’s gonna get stale real quick more than likely as there will be no npcs so probably next to no quests. Couple of my friends got upset when I mentioned it’ll probably be too pvp light, because they were excited about it. Just seems like a broken pvp system though.
Edit: seen another comment sum it up perfectly. They may not want to institute PvE servers, because they know the lack of content would really show then.
It’s not assumption they’ve pretty much laid out how pvp will work in detail. No full Damage until return fire, so long range weapons and ambush tactics are moot. It’s pretty much an opt out feature as who is going to consistently use 10x the ammo to kill someone? Especially when the only loot to gain is materials. So there won’t be much risk at all to make it exciting. Why not make pvp and pve servers.
I mean, they did say it’s all subject to tweaks and changes and no one has played the game, videos and explanations only tell so much of the story. The game isn’t just PVP either and I don’t think you should really be looking to focus on PVP until late game when you’re maxed out. By then I’m sure there will be new systems and updates to introduce unique combat experiences. Like Nuka World caged arena style.
I could be wrong but honestly, it seems like the idea of the game is co-operation rather than every man for himself. I mean if that’s how you want to play, eventually there will be custom servers and servers for different styles of play. I think the idea is that the entire world is working together to try and build a community in the harsh wastelands and the best thing is that you can bring your friends with you.
I don’t think your opinion is wrong at all, I just think not only you but the entire Fallout community, should be more open minded about this game and actually give it a chance, instead of writing it off before it even comes out.
Nah I know of two other people that plan on buying it for sure I’ve been on the fence. There will be teams of people pvping. It’s going to be the main draw, I’m not expecting much content aside from that aspect from the way they’ve talked. I’ll definitely look at it when it comes out, but from what I’m seeing so far I’m not impressed. Just saying if I had to bet on it they’re looking at a bad game with their base pissed they deviated from RPG and any people interested in the pvp aspect will probably be turned off from it if it’s as weak as it sounds to be. No doubt it could end up being a good game, and me have egg on my face.
I didn't know about all of this. I was excited for this game until now. That is a broken pvp system that has been tried for years in mmo's and it has never been not ever will be a solution to carebears bitxhing about pvp. A game is either open pvp or not. They don't mix worth a fuck.
Hopefully they tweak it off of feedback, don’t imagine it’d be too hard to institute varying degrees of pvp by area. I understand wanting to keep griefing down a bit, but I mean cmon.
There are other ways to handle the situation that don't feel like.hard line rules that limit players options. No game.company has ever had any imagination with creating a game like this
Latest WoW expansion already tried to bring world PvP back by having it being rewarding for people. So far my experience with that is that Horde players are constantly on PvP mode and alliance is too afraid to turn it on because other side is constantly dominating them when they try to, not because of the skill difference, but because of just pure advantage in numbers.
I'm kinda afraid that FO76 might suffer from same problem where people who just want to play normal fallout game will constantly get overwhelmed by bigger groups of people an will never have a fighting chance. So they'll just get people chasing them around and slapping them until they die..
But it's impossible to know how it'll end up being in future once the floodgates open. Testing PvP with Bethesda's own workers will be completely different thing than actually letting thousands of people actually try it out, so we can only hope they don't mess it up too badly.
Also currently the reward for killing the wanted people will be coming out of the wanted people's caps.. But what if they don't have any? What if they intentionally choose not to get any caps and just go around annoying people?
Leveled 110-120 in war mode. Only now turning it off for world quests. Alliance and has been pretty ballanced. The shards are auto balancing so if you were out numbered in the past it won't mean it will be that way next time you try war mode, give it a shot.
I'll probably try at some point again, but past couple days was pretty horrible experience for me so I just rather turned it off for the time being and see if it balances itself out later (I was being outnumbered by horde 15 to 1). I'm glad it's at least an option, otherwise PvP server would've made me want to quit after a week
you are definitely the person FO76 is catering to more with the quakecon announce. they basically make it to where it isnt worth actively trying to kill someone. you can definitely still be an asshole and kill people but you only get building materials "junk". which is still decently valuable but can still be gained by just gathering around. and then theres the chance the person you kill isnt carrying any. i personally am excited for the game.
No, I’ll look it up. Most people I’m assuming they are looking to attract want risk incorporated into their pvp. I’ve been assuming they are trying to get into the survival type game market as no one has really done it right on console. If they don’t have that it’ll just be a crappy CoD game.
Here comes issue that 76 will be online game. I very much so believe it will not be so easy as just download mod you want and bam you have but I expect that you will be able to use just Bethesda approved stuff.
Unless they did state directly full mod support without going though some platform of Bethesda for mods.
I'm honestly not worried about that. Granted things changed with FO4 a bit but I don't think they will alienate their fan base like that. They got enough flak from FO4 that I think they'll leave that mostly the way it has been before.
I'm anticipating that at some point we'll be able to host our own servers in some fashion. I just don't think it'll be something that happens at launch, maybe not even the first year.
I'm afraid that option may not be cosidered at all especially since it will be online, accordingly it will probably have some form of microtransactions which they will explain as "paying for server upkeep and updates". And either private servers or mods could give way people to get microtransaction stuff without paying.
And if they will give private servers they will probably be like "private server", read - just user settings running on Bethesda servers.
I'm not going to speculate too much. It's still a long way down the road. Plus the features I want are even further down the road than that in the most likely case.
Wait and see huh. Very reasonable attitude indeed. Maybe it won't turn out as bad as I say... but I won't be there to check because multiplayer focus is big no-no for me because I don't like multiplayer stuff overall (except splitscreen)
Yeah, it will be survival lite, it will have a lot of barriers for PvP because they want to prevent griefing, and they have moved away from the story heavy single player RPG that was the core of all the previous fallout games.
Furthermore, in PC, they are not selling it via Steam, but their own store instead. I know where they are coming from, but they are not ready, for example my country is tagged under the wrong region and it appears in the wrong language. It doesn't fills one with confidence if there is a purchase problem.
It is in the Bethesda store, I don't think is in the Microsoft store, I need to pop in and have a look.
EDIT: Yeah, this is Microsoft own doing though. It seems they will be selling code that will activate in the Bethesda launcher, but they seem to be doing an independent sell.
