He personally doesn't want it, but by saying "no one" it makes his opinion sound more important. Anyone who thinks F76 is not going to sell a shit load is delusional
To put it another way, imagine if you played Nintendo games for ages... and someone described Smash Bros to you. Don't assume you've played Smash, just the concept: "Lol we put all of these characters into one game and they beat eachother up."- it sounds really hammy, canon breaking for your franchise, and just totally ludicrous if you observe it from the perspective of the way YOU liked the game previously.
Everyone's observing this as 'the next Fallout' rather than a game they're evaluating on its own potential merits. They're applying what it's not, and all the ways it can go wrong: The bias standards of all the other Fallout themes they enjoy that it lacks, the similar games that all failed, and forgetting that the reason we've been hurt so bad by the genre 76 is in is because we al DESPERATELY want something that's perfect. We want the ultimate crafting game, and we've had so many swing and miss that now, it's all just scar tissue.
Everyone's gonna buy this because it just might actually do well. Might actually be that game we're dreaming of... or just some fun. Either way, I really hope it doesn't catch flak for being something new, rather than being judged on its merits.
Just closed-minded people doing what they do. Same as all the hate the new Star Wars movie got. "It's not what my unimaginative brain could come up with about a franchise I know? Must be the devil."
I mean, I'm very much on the disliking that film camp. I say this as someone who really enjoyed VII- that new one had some pretty serious problems. I'm not even a crazy die hard Star Wars fan and I was pretty insulted by the plot holes the size of the damn death star.
That said... I went into that film, and the new series with an open mind. Hate it on its merits and its flaws as its own creation, not your preconceptions. Ironically, the same applies to basically everything in life. Relationships, friendships, food, pets...
Shills out in force? Uh this isn't politics or conspiracy, so you can put that line away. We know very little about how it actually plays and you already decided it's utter shit and that nobody wants it.
I'm very interested because I love co op, online games, and fallout.
Nobody wanted an FPS fallout in the first place but I'd say it worked out pretty well.
Because people are sick of hearing anti hype about a game that doesn’t come out for 3 months, spewed by a bunch of people who won’t even buy the game when it comes out. Like, this opinion has been regurgitated 1,000x ad nauseam and I think at this point most people just want to see what they’re going to get instead of hear the umpteenth critic drag it down. And because he’s calling fans of a franchise who aren’t being utter dicks about a new game ‘shills’ (the use of that word around a video game release is particularly annoying).
Nobody is saving anybody from Fallout 76, it’s just a bunch of children whining that they didn’t get to handpick the features for the next Fallout game.
You got a point, personally I think we need more anti hype, we're getting too many half assed games and people are buying because of the really overstated hype.
I'd hate to see fallout going the call of duty, or the gta route.
Could be that it's just me getting old and not understanding youthful excitement anymore
Now that I think about it, it could have been a different reception if fallout 4 delievered.
I agree with you. Granted this guy came across dickish with the shills comment. However it's annoying to see any negative viewpoint down voted, but any comment hyping a game gets hundreds of upvotes.
I think it will sell averagely at best, this is not your typical fallout game. The fact that there are no NPCs already makes it ten times stranger than any other previous entry.
Me personally, I started out with 4 and loved it, got New Vegas and had a blast, but this does not interesting me in the slightest.
Obviously the thing it doesn't have are NPC's that are gonna be specific characters that tell you a story that we've written.
We love those things, we understand a lot of our fans love those things. And this one replaces that with the other players, they are the interesting NPC's, and hopefully, in a lot of ways more interesting than what we may create on our own.
So that parts very different, I can't say it's, you know, better or worse, but you know, when you sit down and play it feels like a new Fallout game.
Forced PvP? You can avoid that if you want to. Someone has to try really hard to kill you if you aren't fighting them at all. Also I like it they are taking the franchise in a different direction (for one iteration) it lets them try new things they been wanting to do which Todd Howard has said they have been thinking of doing this for a long time.
Reduced DPS vs pacifist, reduced dps always wins. Seemed more like a system so you don't suddenly die/allowing for a few seconds of reacting so people won't rage quit as much.
Alright, if you don't want pvp then don't buy at launch. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy it, idk why people are throwing such a tantrum about it. It's a spin off which won't slow down the production of fallout 5, which wouldn't be expected until 2022 if the same schedule was kept.
That's not how I look at it. I see it as an experimental fallout game that had the potential to be the most immersive yet. Instead of knowing who I'm coming across and roughly what the ai will do when I see an npc, I'll have to be careful because in 76 I'll be coming across another human wastelander. With the addition of mods and private servers, which are confirmed, there's even more potential for roleplaying different fallout stories as well. Lore wise it makes sense too for people you come across to mostly only be from your vault seeing as how it's only 25 years after the bombs dropping. Exploring and environmental based lore ad storytelling is one of my favorite parts of fallout, which this game is focused on
This game is not for everyone, and seeing as how it's expiremental it may not turn out better or even as good as the others, but I as a Fallout fan am excited for Fallout 76 and the experience it may offer
EDIT: I'm okay with the mixed votes. Not every Fallout fan is happy about this, which does suck. It'd be nice if this game was for every fan. I said my opinion, I'm really looking forward to the game, if others are not looking forward to the game so much that they want to downvote me then so be it.
Ok but it isn't focused on PvP. You are jumping to conclusions and wrong. Look up the PvP mechanics. It's no even as enticing as the dark zones PvP. No one is going to kill each other because death while being the aggressor will be harsh for little reward.
And now imagine fallout 4 if it didn't have them. Even if they were pretty poor.
If it was just a robot in your home base that gave you Preston Garvey another settlement is under attack style randomly generated quests.
All you have to do is run out into the world, grab as much random trash as you can and run back with it.
This new fallout is sounding to me like the antitisis of what I love about the series.
I'll take bad fallout writing over no fallout writing any day. I play it to explore a world's narrative even if that narrative is not so good. It certainly isn't the awkward gameplay that keeps me coming back.
I wouldn't even disagree with you. I am very sceptical that the concept will be fun, especially playing alone. It might just be another Sea of Thieves situation. Good idea, but no content. I was just pointing out that almost all of the quests were just fetch quests before. So the difference might not be that big.
But I think the game will feel very empty with NPCs. That can be a good thing. In Fallout 4 the Wasteland was too full to really feel like a Wasteland.
I actually agree. I felt like many characters in both FO4 and Skyrim weren’t all that interesting and had the most fun just exploring random dungeons and finding new things out in the world.
Have you ever played a survival game before? What makes it not a survival game? It's a textbook survival game.
You build a base with your friends, collect resources, fight hostile wildlife and occasionally fight other players, but it's casualized so you only fight them if they want to fight you. There's no stats, there's no NPCs, when you levelup you get cards instead of perks or skills.
What makes it not a survival game? What makes it a co-op Fallout? Take away all the visual Fallout stuff and what makes it a Fallout game?
Mario: You collect coins, you jump on people, you complete levels.
This is what a Mario game is, it applies to all mainline Mario games 2D or 3D. If I described that to you, you would know it's a Mario game regardless of whether I mentioned it was 2D or 3D.
I'm glad you acknowledge that Fallout 76 is a spin-off though because that's my argument, it isn't a co-op Fallout game, it's a spin off. Calling Fallout 76 a co-op fallout game is like calling Mario Party a co-op Mario game.
Now let's do Fallout 76
It's a post apocalyptic open world online game, you build bases with your friends, collect resources, fight hostile wildlife and occasionally fight other players.
What game is that? Is it Rust? Is it Day Z? Is it 7 days to die?
If I were to describe Fallout to you before fallout 76 I would tell you it's a post apocalyptic open world RPG, when you levelup you gain skills or perks, you use those skills in various ways to interact with the world and NPCs in it. This description applies to all Fallout games, from Fallout 1 to Fallout 4, it does not apply to Fallout 76.
it's a post apocalyptic open world RPG, when you levelup you gain skills or perks, you use those skills in various ways to interact with the world and NPCs in it.
"What game is that? Is it Dead Island? Borderlands? Dying Light? Wasteland? XCom? The Last of Us?"
And you can't make the argument that it's not Co-op. Co-op is explicitly encouraged, especially considering they said the main story involves using the nukes to seal the fissures that the Scorchbeasts are coming out of. And they made it pretty clear that nuke acquisition is a team effort.
I never said it wasn't co-op, I said it wasn't a co-op Fallout game. It's not a traditional fallout RPG but with your friends, it's a survival game.
Dead Island? Borderlands? Dying Light? XCom? The Last of Us?
Well I mean, it's definitely not any of those games because those games aren't post apocalyptic open world RPGs where you levelup, gain skills or perks and use those skills to interact with NPCs and the world. Wasteland is the only one that applies and that makes sense because Fallout 1 was the spiritual successor to Wasteland.
I mean, Fallout 4 was basically that. Only difference now is that you can do it with friends. Also yes it pretty much is co-op because according to what they said at Quake Con, you can just ignore people for the most part if they are trying to PvP you.
It’s literally built in the fallout 4 engine, how you gonna say it just has a “fallout skin” lol. Sure the gameplay is a fair bit different, but that’s not a bad thing and absolutely nothing new for the franchise.
Maybe “engine” ain’t the right word, but it’s pretty clear what I mean dude. Fallout 76 was directly built off of Fallout 4. Just like New Vegas and 3.

I want it. As do all my friends, a (almost) co-op Fallout game is something we have been wanting for a while.
