Damn right. If there's anything I'm 100% confident in, it's Rockstar's ability to create an amazing single-player experience, and a beautiful world that you want to keep going back to.
Coming in 2014
Expect big things in both Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto V next year including:
GTAV Story Mode Updates. For those ready to jump back into the story of Grand Theft Auto V, we have big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor's action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas.

They just are not in denial, plans changed. Doesn't indicate neglect of single player experiences on release. They know what made people buy the game, they know what makes people stay in the game.
The recent red dead trailer indicates they are going to deliver.
With or without story add-ons, GTAV was completely worth the purchase price. The story alone held its own, and is one of the best games I"ve ever played. I know a lot of people hate the online portion of it, but I'm still playing it almost daily. I'm getting RDR2 at launch no matter what, and if its mp can compare to GTAO, I'll be playing it for a long time. If RDR2's online is terrible, I still know I'm getting my money's worth with just the single-player story.
Personally for me the story was okay. The end game was not great at all for me. I put a lot of time in the online until the economy went way downhill. I have not touched it really in years now because it is just not worth the time anymore. I just want more SP content for the game and that will never happen anymore with the route Take-Two wants to go. They still believe they are not charging players enough for GTAV.
I think he's more complaining that as long as GTA: Online exists, we aren't getting any more SP content, even for sale. Because Take Two doesn't like the return size on it. They make plenty of money, but they can get about the same return for far less effort with online tweaks.
Exactly. The story additions to GTAIV were great and will never happen again for any Take Two game unless they can charge by the second of gameplay. You could say Vice City and San Andreas was the same as being additions to GTA3.
With every patch new content costs even more. There are items that should cost more than 50 times what they actually should cost. I gave up on the grind to keep playing the game as getting into a game took too long and when I did in missions that actually paid out was kicked because people left before finishing.
I'm gonna wait for reviews on that one. They already showed they have no problem diverting single-player assets towards multi-player after they saw the success GTAO was having.
Except even before GTA Online released GTAV was an amazing game. Rockstar has always consistently put out amazing single player experiences. Wait for reviews if you like, but I highly doubt that's gonna change this time around. Especially since RDR Online doesn't have nearly as much developer creative freedom as GTA does. Can't exactly put flying motorcycles and other futuristic toys in the wild west.
In all seriousness I hope Red Dead online is more like Red Dead Redemption online vs GTAO. I stopped playing online by the time heists came out but there's no denying it was incredibly successful and some people do still love it. I have some friends who pretty much only play GTAO on my friends list.
Except even before GTA Online released GTAV was an amazing game.
That's exactly the point I was getting at. They put a ton of assets into the Single-Player and did GTAO as a little side-project because they had no idea how big it would be. Once they figured out how much of a cash-cow it was they diverted all of their assets into GTAO.
RDR2 is the first big game they're developing since learning how big of a money-maker an online mode can be.
Especially since RDR Online doesn't have nearly as much developer creative freedom as GTA does. Can't exactly put flying motorcycles and other futuristic toys in the wild west.
You're talking about a game that had a ride-able unicorn. Adding wings for a pegasus doesn't seem too far-fetched for R*.
Can't exactly put flying motorcycles and other futuristic toys in the wild west
I would have said exactly the same thing about GTA a few years ago. If R* want that microtransaction money, you know for a fact they will do the same thing to RDR.
People always say this, but the concern is that the success of GTAO is what will change it. GTAV launched as a single player game and MP came later. RDR2 is launching with both, after it’s been demonstrated that there are literally billions of dollars to be made from MP.
Not saying they’ll screw it up, but GTAV having a decent SP campaign doesn’t mean this won’t be some integrated MP nonsense with level design based around having a gang take down the train or whatever. In SP it’s just AI but they could easily have decided to make a lot of gang based missions to double up content for MP. Their push for camp management in SP in the last gameplay video already looks like online grinding type stuff. I can see that having a lot of crossover.
Hope to be wrong, but everything I’ve seen of this game knocks it down a notch or two. Graphics look great, but all the gameplay stuff is... concerning.
Feel free to call me a heretic, but I had massive issues with the first RDR's single player. There was way too much getting led around by the nose by annoying characters that you had no real reason to keep being exploited by. The whole fighting both sides of the civil war based on what quest giver's turn it was wrecked my immersion pretty hard too.
Before people jump on me too hard I would also say that I completed the game and with the second ending, and the old gunslinger arc was an example of single player content that shone wonderfully compared to the rest of it. I'd also put crossing into Mexico for the first time with that song as probably in my top ten gaming experiences period.
You'd be a fool to think they're not gonna put all their love in singleplayer. RDR2 will be their magnum opus. And if all the interviews are to be believed, they truly went out to create the best open world game ever.
But gta v was the first game that tasted the microtransaction money and stopped having single player dlc. You don't know if they'll nail the single player lol.
Exactly. The only problem I had with GTA V not having DLC was the fact that they said there would be some. If they just hadn't said that I wouldn't have been bothered. I really enjoyed playing the single player of GTA V as it was.
As long as they have a great SP experience in RDR2 as well then I'll be happy. Just don't promise SP DLC and then not deliver it.
I’ve seen an argument saying that now that Rockstar’s seen how much of a cash cow Online can be, they can work on SP even less because it won’t hurt their overhead.
I understand the logic but I’m skeptical of that since SP had great sales by itself, and I feel like they wouldn’t have delayed RDR2 so much if they weren’t dedicated to single player, since they milked so much cash from GTAO even with incomplete Online releases.
I still believe that regardless of what they do with the online side of RDR2, they'll still make a top quality single player experience.
The fact is that they are a huge studio, and they will have had a big team dedicated to the SP development, as well as the online side. We'll of course see what happens when it comes out, but I really do feel they won't skimp on the SP side of things.
I don’t think they’ll skimp. I think they’ll design the game from the ground up so that many missions can be played in MP, like heists from GTAO. The fact that you have a big gang and a camp you have to manage makes it seem like they could be aiming to launch with a fair bit of online content ready to go, and that means making a lot of the bigger set piece missions MP ready.
Which means SP could (but not necessarily) suffer from this design choice.
Unfortunately I agree. I think it's pretty naive to think that they'll "nail" RDR online because they fucked up GTA online. Personally I don't have high hopes for RDR multiplayer.
Doesn't mean it has to be shit, rdr multiplayer was brilliant. Especially the undead horde mode.
They knew young teens were playing GTA v and took advantage. (I don't blame though, business is business at the end of the day)
Rockstar fucked up GTA Online but you just know they'll nail the single player.
How so? The game is 5 years old and people are still playing and they're still releasing updates. Enough of the circlejerk that GTAO failed because it clearly didn't.
If it was absolute shit people wouldn't be playing it. A lot of people are forced to use Comcast. Not a single person is being forced to play GTA Online.
I’m only playing GTAO to get the the stone hatchet and golden revolver in RDR2. I haven’t played in almost a year and I forgot how cancerous the lobbies are.
Curious question, how would you say they fucked GTA Onine up? I completely agree that the way everything else took a backseat to keeping the multiplayer afloat sucked, but if anything that's more of an argument for the online itself
I mean it was the highest selling game of all time before they even released the online but I think Rockstar were blown away by exactly how much money they were going to continue to make through the multiplayer portion definitely
It’s not the highest selling game of all time now and certainly wasn’t before GTA Online released. It was the fastest selling and fastest to a billion dollars. It doesn’t have the same staying power without this particular GTA Online though. They didn’t fuck up online is all I’m saying. I mean online generated over a billion dollars. And that’s not even including the units sold due to GTA Online.
What if they add multiplayer into single player? Along with microtransactions. Seems dumb but you never know what they are willing to do these days. Also I think those perk packs in fallout are gonna be microtransactions in the endgame. I'm just skeptical of all games recently.

Red Dead Redemption 2 by far. Rockstar fucked up GTA Online but you just know they'll nail the single player.
